Remake This… Mechassault 2: Lone Wolf

The Mechassault series, set upon the planet Helios, had the barest bones of plots. All you need to know is bad people have massive robots and you have to take them down. Where Lone Wolf expanded on the standard shooting in the huge mechs, was giving you the opportunity to hop out and have a wonder around as a tiny sized unprotected human. It was a fantastic way of giving the robots a sense of size and scale and helped immensely when shaking up the gameplay.

Top 5 Video Game Franchises Microsoft Should Revive

The lack of exclusives also pushed gamers to the PlayStation 4 and recently the Nintendo Switch thanks to titles such as God of War and Super Mario Odyssey. Microsoft does have a lot of incredible IPs they can revive to boost the Xbox One's exclusive library. Here are the top 5 franchises Microsoft should revive.

Not even Yookah-Laylee was as good as the first two Banjo-Kazooie games. I doubt current Rare can do a better job than Playtonic at that type of game.

darthv721926d ago

Never played yookah laylee and only recently played the banjo games on rare replay. I wasnt much into the n64 at the time. I am quite surprised there had not been a new crimson skies, especially when the boom of online multiplayer really took off. it seemed like a perfect fit.

I'd say a few others (that are not MS specific) that should be considered for return would be stubbs the zombie, bloodwake, quantum redshift and somebody already mentioned PGR so i would add rally sport challenge.

The Wood1926d ago (Edited 1926d ago )

How many of these articles have appeared this gen. How many times have I had to call for a crimson skies.

Obscure_Observer1925d ago (Edited 1925d ago )

I would love to see a new Otogi and Sudeki game. :)

A new next gen Jet Force Gemini made by RARE would be FANTASTIC!

gangsta_red1925d ago

Perfect Dark, Crimson Skies, Brute Force. I'm sure a modern take on each of those games would be successful.

The fact that Perfect Dark has been dormant for so long absolutely boggles my mind. That should have been top priority from MS at the start of this gen.

Obscure_Observer1925d ago

@PhoenixUp

"I doubt current Rare can do a better job than Playtonic at that type of game."

The "current" RARE, employes more than 400 professionals and they´re currently working on a new IP. I´m 100% positive that this new game will score better than Yookah-Laylee´s 67 score on Meta.

RosweeSon1923d ago

What 69 like sea of thieves. Hardly a game changing difference there ;)

PhoenixUp1925d ago

@ Obscure

How can you say that when Yookah-Laylee was still received better critically than Sea of Thieves?

The amount of workers doesn’t translate to quality

Obscure_Observer1924d ago

"How can you say that when Yookah-Laylee was still received better critically than Sea of Thieves?"

Lol. Are you sure?

Besides that are you really still putting faith in a company that spends nearly five years in making a game that receives such a divisively low score?

Blinx the Cat could make a return. Also, I would like to see Project Gotham Racing or at least its style infused into Forza.

darthv721926d ago

Well the team that did PGR is now a part of Playground games so there could be a possibility of them using some of those features of old but made new again.

Segata1926d ago

Blinx had a neat idea for that time that no longer is but the game was average then and not aged all that well.

AK911926d ago

Very true but a sequel/reboot may be able to make a unique first party Xbox game which MS is sorely lacking.

1926d ago
Switch4One1926d ago

Perfect Dark 3rd person adventure would be pretty sweet.

On the other side of the pond, can Sony please revive Heavenly Sword?!

I miss my redheads okay?!

darthv721926d ago

I dont know why there wasnt a sequel to HS but now I'm not sure sony still owns it or if they ever did. I know they published it. Maybe part of the deal with NT was they get to retain all their developed IP's and as such then perhaps MS may greenlight a sequel after all this time.

Switch4One1926d ago

No, it's definitely a Sony IP. I think I've read that a bunch of times.

Ausbo1926d ago (Edited 1926d ago )

Yeah Sony historically own their second party IP. They love to make deals like that. A big reason sunset overdrive was a Microsoft game, was because Sony demanded the IP ownership. Microsoft didn’t

Same with order1866 and ready at dawn

AK911926d ago

Sony owns it and the game BOMBED financially really badly, being a PS3 exclusive in an era that PS3 was getting alot of hate due to their awful PS3 launch (ironically mirrored by MS's Xbone One launch) made it impossible to be a success.

Obscure_Observer1925d ago

@Switch4One

"Perfect Dark 3rd person adventure would be pretty sweet."

No doubt! I would also love to see them take a darker tone and a more adult oriented approach like Cyberpunk 2077.

Wizards & Warriors.
Jet Force Gemini
Phantom Dust
Scalebound
Blue Dragon
Lost Odyssey

Those are the series I want most from MS.

Xbox – Moving Forward by Going Backward

Player 2 looks through Microsoft's back catalogue of games to determine which titles should be brought back to life.

gangsta_red2278d ago

Some good picks here and there is definitely a wealth of potential MS could pull from and just ride the nostalgia wave.

Crimson Skies and Mech Assault are no brainers and should have been released already. They have been requested by every fan for the longest.

Brute Force I can really see coming back and paying homage to old school arcade shooters. Make it an arcade type game, third person shooter, with a Contra gameplay style. Make it over the top and action packed.

Jade Empire...interesting....what if that is the game Playground is supposedly working on...

gangsta_red2277d ago

I'm not sure but I thought MS owned Jade Empire since Bioware made it before getting bought by EA.

Besides, it really doesn't matter, MS could still contract a third party game from EA/Bioware.

mikeslemonade2277d ago

Nope. Backwards compatibility is moving backwards. You wasting resources on BC rather than making new games.

KillBill2277d ago

Bioware owns Jade Empire... they even made it into an Android Game in 2016: http://toucharcade.com/2016...

EA bought VG Holding Corp which owned Bioware so technically EA owns Jade Empire IP.

Cyborgg2277d ago

Mechassault is the only *Great* game on the list imo. I had a blast playing that back in the day. Crimson tide was mediocre at best

PhoenixUp2278d ago

I’d rather see Fable 4 actually get confirmed before I act like it’s a real thing. And that Age of Empires remaster isn’t even coming to Xbox One.

Hewso2278d ago

Age of the Empires 4 is the game I was referring too and its mention is to emphasise the point that MS is actually looking at their back catalogue. AoE4 may not come to Xbox but it will be apart of the Xbox ecosystem on PC.

PhoenixUp2277d ago

Xbox ecosystem on PC? Lmao!

Unless it’s on Xbox One so it could be part of the Play Anywhere label, the “Xbox ecosystem on PC” shouldn’t be a phrase that is ever muttered.

Age of Empires isn’t even part of Microsoft’s back catalogue of franchises since it’s been a series they’ve been handling in recent years now. So it’s even more unnecessary to bring up unless you’re also going to say Halo, Gears of War, & Forza are part of their back catalogue as well.

If you brought up Microsoft releasing remasters of Voodoo Vince & Phantom Dust last year as a sign of them looking into their classic franchises, that’d make more sense than saying an ongoing franchise that isn’t coming to Xbox One and an unconfirmed rumor of game were signs of this awareness.

SpamnJam2277d ago

Of course it is an Xbox ecosystem. Every game Microsoft releases on PC these days is apart of that whopping big Xbox store at the bottom of every windows 10 screen. What else would you call it? Phil spencer even refers to it as that. As for Age of Empires, considering there hasn't been a new AoE game since AoE online about 7 or 8 years ago It is a pretty fair statement to make. To me it just seems like you are being agressive without reason and you have take one line in an article and ran with it to make a ranty point.

Footyspacecadet2277d ago

Out of roughly 1000 words about games from Microsoft's past you go on a rant about this????? I think you are missing the point of the article dude.

Hewso2277d ago

Xbox ecosystem

http://n4g.com/news/1920150...

From MS themselves. Also if you call re-releasing old games with only resolution improvements you have a lower standard of handling than I do. Also For Fable I never said it was confirmed, I said all but confirmed, considering there has been a fair bit of evidence pointing towards that, it is a fair comment to make. But mainly I really want to ask, what is your thinking behind this, somewhat off point rant? I mean the article barely mentions the two games you have ranted about, it is about actual MS games that I would like to see come back and yet you feel the need to go off on a tanget? I am not being nasty in asking this question I legitimately want to know. What is it you hope to achieve?

Obscure_Observer2277d ago

@PhoenixUp

"I’d rather see Fable 4 actually get confirmed before I act like it’s a real thing."

Fable 4? Could take a while. Playground´s Fable will more likely be a reboot. ;)

Professor_K2277d ago

Ooh i have a good feeling it might come to the Xbox one considering the Mouse and keyboard support. So thays of no concern, it would be megaton if turned out 😁

Moving forward by admitting that sony is right "exclusives matter".

Professor_K2277d ago (Edited 2277d ago )

Sonny is wrong, multiplayer matters. And they are goddam awfull at it lol. PSN hacks
Account hacks, software update bricking.

PhantomS422277d ago

Fine by me. I'd love if they bring back old series. Give me Fable 4, Crimson Skies 2, Mech Assault 3, Voodoo Vince 2, etc. Would even like to see Halo go to a developer who will make a game that is like 1,2,3 instead of whatever 343i is trying to do to the series because it's not good.

Franchises Microsoft Should Revive

Compared to Sony and Nintendo Microsoft doesn't have a lot of exclusive content on their Xbox One. This year Sony released exclusive games such as Horizon Zero Dawn, Nier: Automata, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, and much more. Nintendo has also had a strong year with the Nintendo Switch easily surpassing the Wii U in sales and delivering incredible games like Splatoon 2 and Super Mario Odyssey. Microsoft needs some exclusives and with 2018 almost here maybe it's time to revive some dormant ones.

“This year Sony released exclusive games such as Horizon Zero Dawn, Nier: Automata, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice.”

Only one of those games is a first party title. When comparing first party support for every manufacturer, it’s only essential to only bring up first party titles like Gravity Rush 2, Wipeout: Omega Collection, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, & Gran Turismo Sport.

2308d ago Replies(10)
PhoenixUp2308d ago

Well the author listed Nier: Automata & Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice as PS4 exclusives despite them also being on PC, so this kind of thing isn’t exclusive to Xbox fans.

But that’s besides the point. When talking about first party support, it’s only logical to only bring up first party games.

2308d ago
PhoenixUp2308d ago

@ Ghost

This whole entire article is about first party titles. The description itself lists the publishers and not the consoles themselves which further shows its about first party tiles. Heck even the headline is about Microsoft’s first party titles.

You seem too hung up on the word “exclusives” and not the entire context the author is talking about.

@ Woolly

Regardless of how you wanna classify those third party titles, this article is about first party content.

porkChop2308d ago

I agree. If this is about first party titles why would third party be relevant? Especially when those third party titles are available on PC.

The Wood2308d ago (Edited 2308d ago )

Everybody's golf and mlb the show. . Aren't they 1st party games also?

I agree Crimson Skies should get another game. I'd add Blood Wake, Perfect Dark, Freelancer, Fable and Alan Wake.

I also would add Shadowrun, but go back to it being a RPG. The old one was an open world top down RPG and the best way for MS to revive it is look at what Bethesda did with Fallout and turn Shadowrun into an open world FPS, RPG. Get a company like Obsidian to help make the game and then it'll be a success.

I also would like to see MS revive old game ideas like B. C. that game had an interesting idea for a game and seeing more games like that is what MS needs to be trying.

A new Project Gotham Racing would also be a blast.

Plus working with Mistwalker NEEDS to happen again. More game like Lost Odyssey are what the Xbox brand needs more of.

porkChop2308d ago

Shadowrun has already been revived as an RPG though.

Perfect Dark and Project Gotham both need to happen.

hamburgerhill2308d ago (Edited 2308d ago )

BC and Yager which I don't remember ever releasing either. Another few games I like would be Rallisport, Brute force, Midtown madness, Kameo, Banjo, Jade Empire and maybe Azura.

WolvesDude2308d ago

Good shout Freelancer, Project Gotham too.

"Franchises Microsoft Should Revive"

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Now that that's out of my system: they are reviving franchises. Offering remastered versions of IPs barely given a chance. Otherwise they seem to be operating on a games as services mentality.

2308d ago Replies(2)
godashram2308d ago

That would be Majesco, not microsoft, but they went belly up, so no idea who owns that IP. It would be nice to get an updated, less buggy version of the game.

DillyDilly2308d ago

It was console exclusive on XBOX at the time so Im sure Microsoft has the run down on it
