Joy Ride MIA, but Microsoft Insists 'BigPark's Vision' Will Come to Life in 2010

It appears that Joy Ride has been wiped as cleanly as possible from Xbox.com. Its game page is missing, and even the link to it from MS's E3 page has been removed. Joystiq contacted Microsoft for clarification.

The story is too old to be commented.

probably gonna tweak it to work with Natal. or after seeing modnation racers they want to make it more of a competitor.

Agreed.

This would be a perfect game for Natal.

An arcade/cart racer would be just what it needs to help get it out there.

For a racing game with the need for precision controls like Burnout or Forza Natal would be less than useful I agree.

But a fun little cart racer? C’mon. Have you seen how well Mario cart performed on the Wii? I copied this from wikipedia…

Mario Kart Wii had a successful launch and sold 300,000 copies on the launch day in Japan alone, compared to Mario Kart DS which sold 160,000 copies on its first day and Mario Kart: Double Dash!! which sold 180,000 on its first day. In the week ending May 4, 2008, Mario Kart Wii had sold over a million copies in Japan alone, less than a month since its release in the region. In the UK, Mario Kart Wii was the best-selling video game in the week ending April 12, 2008, having "the eighth biggest opening sales week in UK software history,"

In the United States, Mario Kart Wii was the second best-selling video game in April 2008, selling 1.12 million copies, according to the NPD Group; putting it behind the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto IV and ahead of the PlayStation 3 version, both released in the same week.[28] It ranked the fourth best-selling game of December 2008 in the United States, selling in excess of 979,000 copies. According to the NPD Group, GfK Chart-Track, and Enterbrain, the game has sold 2.409 million copies in the United States, 687,000 in the United Kingdom, and 1.601 million in Japan, respectively, for a total of 4.697 million copies sold by August 1, 2008.

With 22.55 million copies sold as of May 2010, it is the best-selling Mario game for the Wii console as well as ranking third on the best-selling Wii games list. It is also among the best-selling stand-alone games of all time.

Big wall of text I know. But even though it’s Mario Cart and it would have sold well regardless, it still needed to be fun and engaging to have the kind of long-term sales that it has enjoyed.

If Joyride can have even half the success of Mario Cart I think Microsoft would be very happy.

That is what I was thinking they are probably make it a full fledged title for Natal. Hopefully it isn't cancelled.

Blaze9292725d ago

that's my guess as well. After seeing what ModNation racers offered, they probably decided to scrap the whole game and start over to be a lot bigger than the free download they were planning into more of a retail type game. That and definitely Natal support

Montrealien2725d ago

I agree kissmeimgreek.

this game looks interesting, it reminds me of trackmania, if they can nail the track mania vibe, count me in.

joy ride was supposed to be free, i don't really see them trying to compete with modnation if that's still the case.

Just hope that vision still remains FREE. Interesting that Big Park has been basically silent on the game for many months.

I agree with a lot of the people here. It looks like they're going to try and integrate Natal with Joy Ride. I think BallPark is going to be like a mini Rare and push out more of the "casual" first party games from Microsoft.
