The Sony/Ericsson U.S. corporate headquarters is moving to a suburb outside of Atlanta, Georgia. As you’d expect, they put up a help wanted ad.
What you might not expect are the conditions: “NO UNEMPLOYED CANDIDATES WILL BE CONSIDERED AT ALL”.
Apparently Georgia offered up $4 million in various tax credits to attract the operation and bring 180 jobs to the area, but nobody expected that Sony (or anyone else, really) would deny folks who have the bad luck to be unemployed.
The logic is apparently three fold:
* They don’t want an avalanche of resumes.
* If someone has been out of work it takes longer to bring them up to speed.
* Folks who have managed to keep their jobs in an economic down-turn are more valuable.
Cold comfort for folks who have been out of work for a long time.
