The PS3 is fetching a high price due to short supply and high demand. Are consumers finally realizing the amazing value packed into the PS3?
I've noticed this the past few months. The PS3 is staying in the top 10 on Amazon despite a $340-$360 MINIMUM price tag. It looks like consumers are seeing the value in the console!
My friend wants to buy a second PS3 but he can't find one anywhere. They're selling out everywhere.
I haven't seen ANY in stores, and online they are sold out in most places as well. Even calling my local Best Buy, they answered the phone saying "Thank you for calling Best Buy, we're currently sold out of the PS3 and the Wii"
here in Germany/Berlin its the same i have seen only 4 250Gb versions @ Saturn the 120Gb versions were sold out
i wonder what the hell is Sony is upto... look at all the sales they would have had.
Have your friend send me his money, I will go down to the local fred meyer or walmart here and pick it up and mail it to him. They both had several in stock this morning. Also, best buy seems to have plenty. I do agree that they are not a plentyful as they once were, but they are not nearly as scarce as the wii was doing it's shortage. I'm starting to wonder if Sony is releasing an updated version and is therefore allowed stock to sell out on purpose.
I had a real problem finding one online. Most local stores were out too. Found three @ bestbuy a hour away and purchased over the phone. By the time I got to the store the rest were gone. The drought is real.
How come you're still looking? Do you want to start a PS3 collection?
I think it's when his fatty got YLOD. Then he was looking for a Slim. It happened to me too. It took me two weeks to finally get from best buy... nice to have a friend working there.
Sony is definitely preparing for something. Probably building up for the release of the beast that is GT5.
I've only been saying this for years, but there are were a ton of PS2 gamers that hadn't made the leap yet, and the only place they are going to go is to the PS3. The last two friends of mine that had 360's that died decided to go with the PS3.
cant help but sing Ain't no stoppin' us now We're on the move Ain't no stoppin' us now We've got the groove http://www.youtube.com/watc...
Just because they are listed doesn't mean people are buying them for that price. You would have to be a complete idiot to pay more than MSRP for a PS3 or anything else for that matter. However on the other hand, we are talking about moronic PS3 N4G fanboys here.....
I love my PS3...but is it really selling THAT well? it should have overtaken 360 by now if all this hype was true.
Well that's the issue if you read the article. There isn't much stock of PS3 at retailers, so there isn't units to sell to people wanting them. They're selling faster than Sony can make em.
it's not like the 360 has stopped selling, but the gap shrinks every year. Also what hype?
They shrunk the cpu and move is coming out so they'll probably bundle it together.
Sony is up to something....a new model or bundle will probably be announced at E3....glad I got mine in December though
move bundle perhaps
Yep, I haven't seen a single PS3 console in store shelves in months. Just imagine the sales if there was no shortages.. Step it up SONY!!
I just looked at my crystal ball and it's telling me the same thing.
Uh-oh... I knew this day would come.
e32010 cant get here any faster. sony needs to make the move bundle available next day.
Sounds like the PS3 secondhand market may be lucrative right now. Saw about a dozen of them at Best Buy last night. Someone could buy a couple and make some bucks.
The first Best Buy store in the UK opened on the weekend. The first day, literally, in the first opening half an hour, the whole PS3 stock was sold out.
is it big?
I call BS. Last weekend we walked right in and bought a PS3 to have another BR player in the bedroom and picked up no wait, there were no signs of shortages. It's called hype, it's the reason why consoles release with shortages to give the illusion that its in demand. Economics101, there is a careful balance between supply and demand that Sony carefully meets. Any deviation from the balance is carefully planned by them, they have been in the game too long to truly be experiencing production problems three years into a development cycle. I find it very hard to believe there is a shortage at all.
i always wondered about this but then in the uk my bros ylod 2 weeks before god of war 3 and ffxiii had just came out and he couldnt get a ps3 anywhere and they wouldnt be stupid enought to not have enought ps3s on purpose with these games coming out. but obviously companies are always going to want to look like they are sold out but alot of the times i think they actually are but just in certian regions
You honestly think Sony - a company who went from the king of two generations to being in last place has the time to fool around with the already troubling economy? First of all, a bit of Economics 101 will tell you that shortages don't me halted production. They're still making them and still outselling the 360 worldwide. To give the illusion of a shortage, you would have to slow down your sales numbers to give off the illusion that not enough are getting to store shelves. The reason you found one in a store (allegedly) is because they're still being made, obviously. You're conspiracy theory is worse than the anti-PS3 media gag that was going around back in the day. Give it a rest, dude. Believe what you want to believe, but I hope you realize how ridiculous you sound right now. The economy, coupled with sales that are behind both competitors are not a good time to play magic tricks. If you really understood how the economy works, you would at least know that. PS: The correct analysis for this topic would be to think that Sony would be slowing down production for some minor hardware changes, which have already been rumored.
everyone is saying that they can't find a ps3 since several months, and one dumb lucky guy (living in a region with no shortage) use his personnal experience to refuse the reality = ridiculous
IT ONLY DOES SOLD OUT LOL
i got one of 3 slims on the shelves at best buy back in january and that was kind of the last i saw of them. if sony fixes the supply issues by fall this christmas season is going to be the most heated ever.
maybe i sould buy a couple of ps3's and sell them to people in the us lol, who know i could make a profit loool
Someone on Yahoo! Answers actually thought the 120GB PS3 Slim went for $350 because that's how much Amazon was charging. I told him that they actually go for $300 while the 250GB goes for the price he saw. Now he's waiting for one at a store, although I don't know if he ever found one. I've been looking for a couple of weeks myself but no luck. For now, I'm deciding to buy a broken one for very cheap and trying to fix it myself. If it works, I can sell it and do a trade-in from Sony with the money I get! I don't want my Fatboy anymore.
My 60gig launch died in april , got a 250 slim 1 day later, i Youtubed the ylod fix for me fat, bought some £1.50 heat paste fixed it,worked like a charm got me burnout back out and sold it on fleabay for £100 quid, was well chuffed.
to sony for cash?
Not like if people will buy 360's because the PS3's in short supply. People will just wait.
The Wii and 360 will always keep themselves cheaper than the PS3, I believe. However, making it too cheap will lead consumers to thinking that there is less value in the product. I happen to believe, in this case, that the PS3 is overall a better piece of hardware than the Wii or 360 so the higher price is well worth it. Ah,the rules of economics. 12
For some reason i think Sony is doing this on purpose. Maybe i am just looking at the glass half full, but this shortage seems really coincidentally timed with E3. I can't think of what they would do, but who knows.
Its been like that since, like, February. 0_0
My usual Best Buy was out so they called the one up the street from them and they had 3 left. In the 3 mins it took for me to get there 2 of them were gone and I got the last one.
What I don't get is that last month all console sales dropped(as they do in April) including the PS3, if there's a pent up demand we shouldn't have seen a drop or at least it shouldn't have dropped as much as the other two... but it did. That's why I'm sceptical... not saying it's not happening but is there any explanation for what I was talking about above?
shortage = less console sold easy. ps : crapgamer (well found for you) is a pure joke in total denial (forgetting ps3 sold better then xbox since day one, at 600, forgetting that best games are for ps3 since 2 years, and forgetting move, like bluray, etc are the best piece of hardware and inovation, not useless like a new eye toy for casuals) :)
*Hugs 60gb PS3*
also love my 60g. It is the best model after all.
HI FIVE to all 60GB PS3 owners!
I was able to snatch one at Gamestop way back in March, but it had to be backordered for me to get one. Man, these PS3's are hard to come by.
Yeah eveytime I go to a gamestop there is always somebody asking for a ps3 this guy was lucky today he got the last one said the clerk.
So maybe we're missing something.
Are you guys serious? Hello! Toshiba, IBM, Sony and Nvidia all talked about Cell and RSX 40nm back in march and april. It's pretty obvious the shortages started because Sony didn-t steped up the production so to hold the factories a bit as they could produce the cheaper console and take less hit/more profit. If those consoles aren't out in the market yet it's obvious they are holding them to have enough suppy and announce a new pricecut. It was already expected for both MS and Sony to cut their prices this year, the question was WHEN? I can be wrong, as I believed it was common sense, but looks like no one else think like that. Still I stand by my opinion, pricecut incoming with smaller components.
With the hardware inside the PS3. It's a damn fine package. Even if you're not into gaming, it is a very valuable box to have in your entertainment center. From web browsing, to blu-ray to a streaming media hub to get your movies from your pc to your tv. Add to all of that a FANTASTIC upscaler and you've got great value there.
Last place console, desperation motion control device on the horizon, failed PSP GO now throwing games at people for free.......How does Sony do it?
I think it might increase sales, it would make the consumers go out and buy it right away when there is restock. They might think it would be sold out everywhere before getting one, and have to wait weeks or months before getting one.
*sigh* To everyone who thinks Sony is doing this on purpose to create fake demand, understand that a new 40nm graphics chip version was recently finalized and they're merely transistioning to that model.
say what u want but Ps3 at $500 is about the right amount if u want to look at it feature wise and value wise i mean compared to the 360 wi-fi on xbox360: $100 xbox live times 5 years: $250 blu-ray player if u own a xbox360: $299 ps3 is a way better value and ps3s games have been better the last couple of years 2008 MGS4 resistance2 little big planet 2009 killzone2 uncharted2 demon souls 2010 mod nation racers GT5 mag heavy rain god of war3 thats why whenever i see somebody buy a 360 over a ps3 i want to slap them...call me a fanboy but its the truth
