AppSpy: Steam Pirates by Fried Green Apps is an enchanting new RPG for your iPhone that's as whacky as it is fun. If you're worried you'll be locked in to days of grinding gameplay, you'll be happy to know that this is also relatively short title, but once you're done you'll definitely wish there was more.
Steam Pirates is an RPG staring Kat, whose introductory scenes – something about being a mercenary trying to rescue a rock band and encountering mermaids – are promising enough. What ensues is a hybrid 2D-platform, turn-based-combat quest through seven islands that’s rather slow and clumsy at everything not part of such cheeky interludes.
STP writes: "Steam Pirates has plenty of hallmarks of a great game: entertaining characters, a creative world, rollicking music, and top notch art. But an excellent RPG also requires a stand-out story and engaging combat. These areas are where Steam Pirates stumbles".
Fans of Luc Bernard had spent months anxiously awaiting the release of Steam Pirates, his latest title that combines RPG and adventure elements with his own unique art style. Their long wait finally came to an end when it was released 3 days ago – but if you didn’t act quick it looks like you’re back to waiting. For reasons not yet known, the game has been removed from the App Store.
