OnLive offering 12 month free subscription and free game promotion

OnLive is a cloud-computing based game service that will offer gamers the ability to stream games to their home computers (and eventually other devices) without the need for the latest and greatest video card or CPU. The service is currently in beta testing and will be unveiled and open at E3 in June. Gamers and others have been skeptical of both the service and it's subscription based offerings. So, what's the best way to get gamers to look past their skepticism and hopefully get hooked on the service? Offer it for free for a year along with game.

Update:

Sadly, pre-registration is now closed. http://www.onlive.com/speci...

This deal is dead.

They want you to build up a software collection, run out of subscription, and then go "Oh crap! Now I have to pay them for life if I want to keep playing my 100s of dollars worth of games!"

That is assuming, that the quality isn't horrible (and it will be compressed to death if it has viable response times and resolutions), and you'll even stay past your first play through.

was subscribed for that three month thing, now I got this one instead. Hell free is free im not gonna complain.

No thanks. I'm not a fan of subscription gaming.

I probably won't subscribe once it is out but I got to admit the technology allows for some pretty cool things to happen.

Like in the menu the background is full of other people playing the game at that same time.

That is something you just can't do without cloud computing (not at the scale shown)

As everyone is gaming on one huge system you get input lag but technically no lag between gamers at all. So you can do a lot of cool things with that advantage like a 1024 player FPS game with only the lag on the input.

Is it based on Region? It showed up expired to me...

Looks to me like it's going to have to to do anything to me, cloud computing is a trainwreck waiting to happen, you have to upgrade your computer every 4-5 years so what? You have to upgrade everything with time, if we didn't we'd still be using black and white TV's and cars that could go up to 10MPH

Also remember if OnLive goes under you'll lose all your games, and you have to pay to play them.

Hideo_Kojima2728d ago

Why buy a new car every 5 years when you can simply rent a car every week?

As the years go buy we will upgrade you deal and give you a faster better car every 5 years instead.

I would fall for such a bargain.

I was in the beta, it is pretty impressive tech. One thing is clear though, gamers that come the N4G are clearly not the demographic they are leaning towards.

Wtf, it's saying I don't meet the system reqs when I'm on Windows 7 and Firefox 3.6

Ghost_of_Tsushima2729d ago

Use Internet explorer it did the same thing with me and I had safari and I tried Internet explorer and it worked fine also is your Internet 5mbps?

masterg2728d ago

System reqs must refer to your Internet speed. The whole point on OnLive is there are no specs reqs.
