The next Mass Effect might not be a solely single-player experience. A new job posting on LinkedIn suggests that the series is taking a turn toward multiplayer.
(BioWare, PC, Xbox 360)
If it WAS the campaign... It'd be a ROCKIN' multi player campaign. I wanted somebody to take control over Thane and help kick ass over the galaxy. Playing the campaign with a buddy or two would be awesome.
Why? No...calm down this is Bioware they are one of the best in the gaming industry, if anyone can do MP right with Mass Effect it is them. With that said and taking it into account that I never played ME in it's entirety(I never finished ME1) with that said I think it should play SP. Unless they have some Age of Empires thing in mind.
A Mass Effect multi player expansion would be hot as hell. Every person on my friends list that's a ME2 fan and own the game say this with great excitement(been in 20 minute conversations about it with 6 or 7 people. The game mechanics are designed perfectly for it and so are the differing abilities. It would be like Gears of War on steroids. Been in ME2 co-op wish list conversations too.
I say NAHHH not because they are not interested in Multi play but NAHHHH to claims of the entire series moving that way when they're talking about some sort of DLC or expansion. So Bioware announcing something this big very early in 2011 can not be ME3 but the multi player expansion.
Iv'e heard so many people talk about it and wishing for multi player and co-op I wouldn't be surprised if the move is based on fan feedback.
I will second the OP. No developer can do everything at once, Bioware included. A multiplayer mode will mean hours taken from the excellent campaigns we expect from the Mass Effect games.
Perhaps a co-op mode could be looked into. That's all I'd ever approve.
As long as it doesn't affect the single player elements, don't mind. Naughty Dog was able to do it, so I'm not uncertain that someone else could do it. I hope BioWare does the same thing Naughty Dog did, though, and branch out to others at EA who have made multiplayer games as to how to do it well.
I think EVERY game needs to have at least some kind of multiplayer it lengthens the games life and i don't think it will affect the story so much..
only non-social people actually likes single-player games..
well i can tell you this i am never going to buy a single-player game again! cuz after you finished it you don't use it anymore just like some kind of condom but unlike condoms its like trowing away $60. at least condoms give you a good experience and it has multiplayer( if you know what i mean).
"only non-social people actually likes single-player games.. "
Do you even know what you're talking about, or are you just pulling that out of your ass?
And "every game needs to have multiplayer"? I'm glad people like you don't run the gaming industry; entire franchises would be ruined with that one-track logic.
Mass Effect is an RPG, and that is one genre that should stay as far away from MP as possible.
Let's also not forget the play n pause combat mechanic of the Mass Effect franchise. That would NOT translate to MP at all.
Like others have mentioned, the farthest they should go with a MP aspect is co-op, and even that's a bit of a reach since there are decisions to be made.
You don't own sh*t liar. Uncharted 2 is played by 10's of thousands of players online. Mass Effect online? Hmmm, could work. People said the same thing about Uncharted and multi-player not working together, but it did in Uncharted 2.
Multiplayer always sacrafices single player. There's only so much space on a disc. Multiplayer is so over rated. These developers need to stop giving in to this crap.
People always hate when a past SP only game announces MP because of many reasons, but mainly because it takes away all their effort on SP...that's not always the case. Everyone bitched when Uncharted 2 MP was announced, and IMO the U2 SP is a lot better than U1...and the MP is top notch.
Hmm. Well, the gunplay is ME was pretty good. Y'know, I'm going to go ahead and give this the benefit of the doubt...just as long as it doesn't steal dev time from the actual game.
Creating a multiplayer component takes resources. Those resources could be pulled from the single player development. A game that's driven by its story and campaign could be hindered with resources taken from that development.
There are gamers that still enjoy a great single player experience and would prefer if some games stayed single player.
Long after servers are shut down for whatever reason, you can always go back to a game with a great story. If a game relies on MP, it will last only as long as it has servers.
And another excellent single player experience gets screwed all in favour of damn multiplayer. Seriously how many games do people need with MP ? There are very few excellent single player games these days that concentrate solely on that aspect of gaming we don't need another half arsed multiplayer/rpg.
I don't care if they decide to make a seperate multiplayer game in the Mass Effect universe that is their business but polluting the single player game with multiplayer is pathetic and nothing but a sell out.
I love Mass Effect and I was really looking forward to finishing the story but I am sorry if they chuck MP into the game then they can kiss my money goodbye.
Knew it would come eventually. I LOVE Mass Effect - so naturally I've always *thought* of MP coming to ME3 but always agreed that it really wasn't needed. I play ME1 and ME2 more just going back through the story eleventy-billion times with new classes, morality, choices, etc than most games with great MP.
Still I hope it is something like Horde-mode where people can Co-Op together to take on enemies rather than a slapped-on Team Deathmatch.
Here comes a load of idiots who think having a multiplayer = single player not as good.Seriously, look at Uncharted 2 and Halo. If there are extra budget and human resources which will be otherwise unused or used on another title, why not invest them into a single game and make it bigger?
Wait, which Halo had the GREAT SP? Because ME1/ME2 has a GREAT SP, great story, great character development, etc, not just some set pieces thrown together with a one man army who has the personality of a snail.
I don't really think it's needed, nor necessary. However, adding multiplayer could assist bring value to the franchise and I would welcome it, as long as they keep their focus on building a strong single player. Considering it's Bioware, I don't think that will be a problem.
if it dont got mp im not buying it no matter how good it did its un exceptable i did it the last gens ps2, xbox, gamecube, dreamcast, ps1, n64, snes, nes, etc., etc., when are they gonna learn sp dont sell games. i dont care if the dumb down the story we want mp the sells games get talks. we speak with our wallet.
No, please no,i beg at you Bioware NO! Don´t do it, NO!
I love SP it's amazing, the fact that ME2 took me 30 hours to finnish it's amazing too, also i hope it's on a 3rd disk cause i love long-kick-ass campaings not a short pieces of shit with awful endings wich can happen because of cutting to fit the MP.
Well as long as they don't lose their touch with crafting an epic story and making that thier primary focus then I'm okay if they put a multiplayer mode in.but don't make it a crappy add on
Dammit, the person that submitted should have buffered the title enough so on the main page it only shows " blah blah blah Mass Effect Going Multipl-"
Ontopic: If its well made, the go ahead- I thought uncharted multiplayer would be a bad idea, but It's my second fav online game (behind Metal gear online- yeah, i like third person shooters)
It'd be a ROCKIN' multi player campaign. I wanted somebody to take control over Thane and help kick ass over the galaxy. Playing the campaign with a buddy or two would be awesome.
There had better be something RPG about this.
A Mass Effect multi player expansion would be hot as hell. Another 10 year old ruining gaming for us all

This game screams CO_OP. Pulse it is good to shake things up to keep franchises interesting. Bring it on Bioware.
It could work but i'm not interested.
Edit: I own a PS3 and Uncharted 2 and I only see about 2,000 or 3,000 people online. Pretty sad.
That number you see isn't the total...
That's the amount of people that are on the same server as you.
Two Shepards? Hmmm....
Early for this
I'm sure it's just bullshit
..............................
My point is, that is not always the case.
if you don't like multiplayer then don't play multiplayer, simple as that
Creating a multiplayer component takes resources. Those resources could be pulled from the single player development. A game that's driven by its story and campaign could be hindered with resources taken from that development.

It became much more of a generic shooter than a RPG in the 2nd game anyways.
I LOVE Mass Effect - so naturally I've always *thought* of MP coming to ME3 but always agreed that it really wasn't needed. I play ME1 and ME2 more just going back through the story eleventy-billion times with new classes, morality, choices, etc than most games with great MP.

THERE...I SAID it.
Single-player FTW!!
lol :)
Too late to insert a three-way joke?
1.Uncharted
2.Asscreed
3.Bioshock
ect.......
These companies are stupid
It does really good multiplayer. Not tacked on.
I heard its like gears.
At least try it AFTER we see how successful your MMO is. Then you might have some experience under the belt when it comes to "multiplayer".
I love SP it's amazing, the fact that ME2 took me 30 hours to finnish it's amazing too, also i hope it's on a 3rd disk cause i love long-kick-ass campaings not a short pieces of shit with awful endings wich can happen because of cutting to fit the MP.
Keep it SP Bioware.
