Video Game Films: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Simon Brookfield of PlayerAffinity.com wrote: For a genre where the most highly regarded films are often described as the "least bad," it is not surprising video game movies garner little praise from critics or audiences on a steady basis. This feature could be more aptly named "The Okay, The Awful, and The Horrendous."

Completely agree with this article. Very well written.

If you're a little child baby, then good article, i guess. They left out key movies, though like Final Fantasy Advent Children and RE: Degeneration.

Most mainstream game movies are failures.

Hotel_Moscow2916d ago

are you saying advent children is a failure you best be trollin

Resident Evil? No. I had no problem with the first 2, though I think they could have been better. The third one.... er. Kage Bunshin no Jutsu!

was good because the music fit the scenes very well (manson actually has some talent apparently), and cuz the director knew it was a good idea not to give the "actors" very many lines of dialog. it had good pacing and atmosphere. after that, they went down hill big time. as for all the other movies mentioned, not a good one in the bunch. first tomb raider was tolerable, but certainly not "good"

Hitman was so god awful, i actually erased it from my memory.

Whatever happen to the Silent Hill 2 movie?

Fierce Musashi2917d ago (Edited 2917d ago )

Lol Yeah. Still waiting on that. The first was near-flawless.

SpaceSquirrel2917d ago

The first Silent Hill film was good until the second half.

hazelamy2917d ago

there is talk of shooting on the sequel starting this year, with rahdha mitchell to return.

deathstriker2917d ago

Even though the Hitman movie was pretty sub-par and I don't even like the video games that much, I would still say it's the best video game movie I've seen. The Tomb Raider movies were okay, but a little too popcorn for me.

leave it to hollywood to ruin something as simple as Doom. you have to TRY to screw up something as simple/cool as hell gates opening up on mars but they did.

oddly i thought gamer and the crank movies were the best ( non-videogame) videogame films. crank has suda 51 written all over it.
