A look at five games from throughout Nintendo's various consoles that will never be released for the Wii Virtual Console.
mario party 1 is such an awesome game
The first one on 64 was a riot. A virtual board game. Instead of Wii Party, nintendo should do another Mario Party and kick it up a notch, online would be a good start lol.
Nvm. Interpreted your comment the wrong way.
It's the best game in the series IMO
Indeed. I still have the cartridge. Great game.
Mario Party 4, the first one on the Gamecube, was the best one by far. It was all downhill from there. Especially when they switched the "Orb" items out for "Candy"...
I hated Mario Party 4. The Mega / Mini stuff was a very pointless addition. Mario Party 3 was, in my opinion, best in the series. The Casino was a lot of fun and the 1v1 sidegame was actually entertaining, which you can't say about any of 4-8's alternate modes.
Goddammit I hope you're wrong about Earthbound. No GoldenEye? I thought that was the obvious one. I want to see Doom 64. That was great, with totally redesigned monsters and levels.
Im still holding out for an E3 surprise for Earthbound
I wish Nintendo of America's lawyers would just bite the freaking bullet on this one, much as I know they won't. I mean, it's a Virtual Console game...is anyone going to care enough to sue them over a game released fifteen years ago? Edit: Wait, 15th Anniversary of the NA release is 6/5? Random. O.o
Didn't Reggie say there were some legal issues with EB?
Basically, Nintendo of America's lawyers are scared to release Earthbound because it's a wealth of pop culture references. Pop culture references that would like nothing more than to sue for what little money they're still worth.
The issue with Earthbound is that a lot of songs reference/sample licensed music -- if I remember correctly, it involves music from the Who, Monty Python, the Beatles, etc., none of which comes cheap. This means that the owners of those copyrights have a large incentive to file lawsuits that would likely never fly. Lawsuits which Nintendo of America's legal people would rather avoid fighting entirely, even though they'd *probably* win. So NOA won't move on it unless they can remove the music and make the game less lawsuit-friendly -- and that's never going to happen because Nintendo's Japanese division purportedly believes that making those changes would 'violate the game's artistic spirit', or some such nonsense.
Mahr, To be honest if they just compose new music for it...it would be awesome still. xD
"To be honest if they just compose new music for it...it would be awesome still. xD" I agree completely -- that's why I said NCL's reasoning was nonsense.
I remember hearing that Nintendo showed EarthBound to their lawyers, but they wanted to have all these references edited. When Shigesato Itoi, the creator of the series, was questioned about whether or not he'd be willing to have these changes made, he declined. So yeah, it's probably not gonna happen.
Which is why they should make a sequel. Man, wouldn't it be awesome if they announced a new EarthBound at E3? I'm suprised GoldenEye or Perfect Dark weren't in here. Sadly these games won't ever come to the VC, which is why they should give us Turok 1-2 (3 isn't worth having) on the VC instead. That and Mortal Kombat 4, and Doom 64, and Donkey Kong 64.
WWF No Mercy has no chance due to almost half the roster of wrestlers an't in the WWE any more. Its just a game after all but having it re-released 10 years later is going to put strain on the licensing. Out of the entire roster on WWF No Mercy i've counted less then 10 superstars that are still active today.
I'm still waiting for Yoshi's Island: Super Mario World 2 to become available. Seriously, what's the hold up. Earthbound would be great too. I played a little of it back in the day, but I'd love to play through the whole game. I remember it being really weird and fun.
That's my favorite 2d platformer! I have the Gameboy Advance version, but I'd rather play it on a TV even if that means I lose the bonus levels. I don't understand why it's not up yet. Kirby Super Star being ported gives me hope, because there is an updated DS port of that. So clearly, they aren't worried about losing portable sales.
Jet Force Gemini would be nice to have on VC, but I'd rather Nintendo (or anyone) make good on their promise of making a sequel to it all those years ago. Buy whatever IP rights Rare has, buy Swingin' Apes from Blizzard, and have them make the sequel. After forcing them to make Metal Arms 2, that is.
I'm not sure why anyone would want Starcraft 64 brought back. I've played it, and it's not god awful, but the controls are pretty poor. I'll take my Starcraft II, thanks.
