There's been a rumor flying around that Peter Moore, Vice President of interactive entertainment business, entertainment and devices division at Microsoft, will be soon leaving the company to head up EA sports.
the entertainment (xbox) division has never seen profit, perhaps it has to do with the 1 billion dollar deficient the xbox division will have to face in the coming years.
Odion like I care what you think.
I see red.
oh look Sony fanboys are approving this and a Sony fanboy is opening his mouth.
Also before you make yourself look like a bigger dumass, go to fortune 500 and look under MS, their rise in profits for the quater was due to the 360, its making profit it just hasn't made back the money they lost from the initional investment.
Thats called being in debt Odion, not making money. Making money would entail they are making a PROFIT that doesn't go towards paying off development/legal/etc. fees for their product.
they lost billions and peter is running away...they never goin to make a profit..1.1 billion dollars and i see them losing even more..
ya know things quit on you..lol..
god i hope this is a harbinger for the end of MS in the games business. it would be so great if it went back to Nintendo and Sony, the days of ps1 and n64 were brilliant.
Peter Moore has ruined every company hes been with. He was a big part of Nintendo's downward spiral years ago. Single handedly killed the Dreamcast, ruined Sega to the point it no longer makes consoles, and totally destroyed any hope of xbox/360 ever making any money. Yeah that little billion dollar viasco, on top of the already 6 billion in losses, made it real easy for shareholders!
Guess whats in store for EA!
And the bomb, MS has a shareholders meeting with quarterly report on Thursday! Can you say the end is near!
CONFIRMED! CONFIRMED! CONFIRMED!
Peter Moore Resigns From Microsoft to Return to Northern California
Don Mattrick appointed to head Microsoft's Xbox and Games Business.
"REDMOND, Wash., July 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Microsoft Corp. today announced that Don Mattrick, a former president at Electronic Arts Inc. (EA), will lead the Interactive Entertainment Business (IEB), which includes overseeing the Xbox(R) and Games for Windows(R) businesses. Peter Moore, who currently serves as corporate vice president of IEB, has decided to move his family back to the Bay Area for personal reasons and has secured another opportunity in the video games industry.
Mattrick will take over as the senior vice president of IEB at Microsoft, effective July 30. Mattrick was the founder of Distinctive Software Inc., which operated as a private company from 1982 until its merger with EA in 1991. Mattrick held various senior positions within EA, most recently as president of Worldwide Studios, until his resignation in February 2006. In February 2007, Mattrick began working with the Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft as an external advisor.
"Peter has contributed enormously to the games business since joining Microsoft in 2003 and we are sad to see him go," said Robbie Bach, president of Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft. "Since that time, he presided over the global launch of the Xbox 360(TM), spearheaded a revitalized and rebranded Games for Windows business, and helped steer the console's ascent."
Moore has decided to return with his family to Northern California, where they lived until he took the position at Microsoft. Moore will remain at Microsoft to assist in the transition through August and will then return to the San Francisco Bay area.
"While Peter will certainly be missed, we are delighted to have one of the industry's most talented and passionate veterans on board to lead the business," Bach said. "Don is well-known and respected throughout the industry for his deep knowledge, technical expertise and management savvy. Under Don's leadership, the games team is looking forward to embarking on our biggest holiday ever, with a wide-ranging roster of some of the most highly anticipated titles."
Mattrick brings 23 years of games industry and development experience to the strong Microsoft management team, having helped bring to life such celebrated game franchises as the "Need for Speed," "Harry Potter" and "The Sims" while at EA.
"Over the past two decades, and the past few months in particular, I've worked closely with many of Microsoft's top leaders and I've always been impressed by their talent, passion and commitment," said Mattrick. "I'm thrilled to join an already strong team that's delivering truly amazing gaming experiences to customers around the world. I've never been more excited about the future of the industry, and firmly believe Microsoft will lead the next great innovations in gaming."
Founded in 1975, Microsoft (Nasdaq "MSFT") is the worldwide leader in software, services and solutions that help people and businesses realize their full potential."
First Robbie Bach sold stock
Now this rumor.
I think Peter Moore is a good guy, he pretty honest. And it's not like he was making all those decisions on his own. He is a real PR guy.
This is not coming from a 360 fan or owner by the way. I just think we should give this guy some slack. Maybe he feels presure on the Xbox camp and want to goy the neutral way. He could do good at EA.
Most if not all of you are totally missing the point when it comes to either Sony or Microsoft's profits AS A WHOLE!
Listen, BOTH compnies are MAKING money! Sony is losing money on the PS3 as is M$ on the 360.
But what most of you seem to forget for some reason is that both of these companies make a ton of money on other products. Enough so, to cover the losses in their gaming divisions!
As for Peter Moore going to EA? The job as a whole is probably easier and not to mention they are THE top software company on consoles and probably PC's. They are projected to hit the billion mark in sales.
Not such a dumb move either way you go with this one. Either stay with the billion dollar company or move to another billion dollar company.
J Allard back, he was cool.
That would be quite a conflict on interests. Having millions in Microsoft stocks even if he were to leave, he would have personal gain in turning EA into making exclusives just for the 360.
It would be interesting to see Peter Moore doing business with SONY or giving some info on a PS3 only feature on a game etc.
PS: guys don't mind Odion.. He tends to be a little mentally challenge when it comes to posting objective and intelligent comments..
Think of him as a hair in your @ss... You know is ugly and smells like sh*t, but you don't give a f*ck that it's there. :)
is EA sports anything besides the nfl license these days? all their other games suck.
MS should be glad Moore might be leaving. He is an unprofessional exec. If I were a stockholder in MS I wouldn't be impressed by his demeanor, language, appearance, or tactics.
red rings games next
thank god this anit true
Just making Exclusive's for the 360 lol that would be a Big loss for Sony
Note: i also hope he doesn't leave Microsoft he is a Hero
Do you have to spread your butt cheeks to talk?
hahahaha oh man EZ.. that was classic, everyone at work is looking at me cuz i busted up laughing.. that was great.
I like Peter Moore, I hope he's not taking the fall for the warranty issues. We’ll see, we should have an official statement soon I hope.
I love how 90% of the people posting in here are Sony Trolls, I can't wait for this to be disproven so the lot of you will have to shut up about it.
When I read SONY fanboys talk about how Microsoft is losing money, I must wonder: how many of the 11.6 million xbox owners actually care if MS loses 1 bill dollars. Doesn't BG own around 40 bill (that's just his money). You must distinguish between company issues, and the consumer bottom line. Bottom line is: the 360 is cheaper and has the best looking games out there, outselling PS3 2:1 in the US. Everything else is irrelevant; MS is not abandonig ship, like SEGA, or other companies in the past. And, don't forget that Farther PS3 was basically fired (many in his own company didn't get along with him) vs Peter Moore, respected even by his rivals. If MS or Sony lose money on a system, who really cares? Is that my problem? NOPE!!! This is nonsense. And Shirox, the days of N64 and PS1 were a product of your imagination; PS1 easilly outsold the N64 by a lot (100 million versus 30 million). Kinda like the Wii and 360 are doing to the PS3 so far. Let me guess, you were in 5th grade at the time? Firewire; some would argue Moore is the face of 360; 11.6 million versus your 4 million ps3. Who wins? Finally, EA knows better than all of us about this bussiness. If they want Peter Moore that's their issue.
phil harrason >>>>>>>&g t;>>> peter moore
Another Console flopped, Another company ruined. On to the next ehh Pete...
This guy is worse than the silver Surfer...destroying planet after planet. Only difference is he destroys companies.
One thing im calling now for sure. If Microsoft loses Pete and loses the majority of Market Share to Sony this Gen. I think they are done. Their will not be another Xbox. Just my 2 cents.
Now let the fanboys attack. I want to see those tears rolling down the cheek just cause I stated my opinion.
Best Analogy of the Day!
with the topic at hand but
yes you win the best comment of the day award.
I dont get it....why would he take a step down kinda job...
Hey Hey Hey.....wait a gosh darn minute. Don't compare me to Peter Moore. I have wayyy better hair. And I dont have any ridiculous tatoo's on my body. Ok...well I did just get "Marvel" tatooed on my left butt cheek but that doesnt count.
is reporting the rumor.. with no source. unless kotaku is the first to report.
or maybe he's just visiting EA.
Talk about a Captain abandoning the ship before it sinks
he finally realized what he was going up against and he had to get the hell out of there
The Black Pearl sank the ship.. JK
You mean like Krazy Ken! Hahahahhahahha
are like flies on an afternoon picnic feast.Stick to your lame Ps3
and Ken Kunturagi stories. In other words...........EF OFF.
P.S.How does it feel to LOOOSE this gen. That's right punks.
I doubt this is true but it sure seems to have the Sony fanboy sissy's all worked up.. I think only 3 comments in this whole thread are from people who actually own the console. What is wrong with you people in here? Let's just get some facts straight..
Edit: Far from rumor I guess.. He is gone.. But I still stand by my comments.
MS is far from sinking.. Maybe you haven't noticed that it's currently kickin the ass of the PS3. So I would hardly call this ship sinking.. If it's sinking then Sony is resting on the bottom of the ocean and Ken is a waterlogged carcass of fish food.
Sometimes I wish many of you would be able to see beyong your gamepad before implying that the xbox 360 is a failure.
Things are never white or black when it comes to business.
For example, Blu-ray is causing Sony to lose lots of money. Did Sony needed Blu-ray to win the console war? Nope, since Microsoft nor Nintendo's console have come with HD drives. Sony had an stablished fanbase, 3rd party support, nice exclusives, etc. Imagine if the PS3 would have being released at the sametime as the xbox 360, at the same price or cheaper... blu-ray or not.. Microsoft live would be harder.
But Sony took a risk... and decided to go for blu-ray... why? Didn't they know they were going to lose money? Of course... they did it because blu-ray would open another revenue stream... and if it worked it can multiply the amount of money they make.
Well... here is a reality check... Microsoft does the samething.
Big corporations are big because they do this all the time... they see divisions and products as chess pieces.. that they move in order to achive the final goal.... expand and make more money.... Sometimes you sacrify/risk/hurt/weaken a division/product for the greater good of the company. Take the xbox 360 for example... without the original xbox there wouldnt be an xbox 360 or Xbox live...
They wouldnt be able to push digital distribution as much as they are...
They wouldnt be planning deals with Companies like NetFlix.
They wouldnt be reading themselves to introduce IPTV that can be huge.
They probably wouldnt have Zune.
They wouldnt have XNA which is now bring use to teach in some learning intitutions to teach game programing... which in term will create a legion of developer support of people that will be familiar using microsoft technology and tools. Those are people that will use products like Visual Studio and Windows OS to make their games.
Expanded Microsoft Game Studio which now can make/sell on more than one platform.
Microsoft wouldnt buy in-game advertising companies like http://arstechnica.com/news... that can potentially brings lots of money...
I can spend here an all day talking about all existing and possible future revenue streams that the xbox 360 opens for microsoft.
Do you actually think that the fact that microsoft is losing some pocket change compared to the load of money they can potentially make will make them nervous?
You see... companies like Microsoft and Sony don't sit on their hands once they start making money... they don't depend on a single product.... Do you know what happends if microsoft only focus on the xbox 360.. forget everything else... no Zune... no IPTV... no XNA... none of these things that are causing the xbox division to stay red?
The samething that happen a while back http://www.pbs.org/newshour...
"Microsoft announced late Tuesday it would return up to $75 billion to its shareholders in what may be the largest cash disbursement in corporate history. The software giant said the payout would come in a combination of dividends and stock buybacks."
Do you know why? Cause they had so much money that they didnt know what to do with it... so they give back.
Even if the xbox division is losing money... microsoft still makes more money than they are spending in research and pursuing new revenue streams like the XBox.... Thet are still giving investors money back... heck they are even buying their stock from share holders.
So, I know that 1.x billion sounds like a lot of money for many of us... but to companies like microsoft... this is a small price to pay for new Potential markets and revenue streams... and I don't know if you noticed... but microsoft is trying to introduce themselves or expand into the hardware make arena.
It's not only about the XBox... see beyong your gamepad people.
It was like the Titanic when someone ordered it to speed up it's pace to reach it's destination faster than expected...Well the Xbox did the same thing on rushing the 360 system which is why most of them are failing. Peter Moore get off the ship now before it sinks !!!! EA to the rescue
Kind of reminds me of the BTK killer.
