Remedy: Anybody Who Hasn't Played Heavy Rain Should Do So

Destructoid's been talking with Alan Wake writer Mikko Rautalahti as they gear up for the game's release this week. As a big Xbox 360 exclusive, Alan Wake has obviously been dragged into the console wars with many fans pitting it against Sony's own Heavy Rain. With that in mind, how has Remedy dealt with the comparisons and is there any pressure to "beat" Quantic Dream's latest?

funny because just a few weeks ago everyone was bashing Remedy for some comments, which they themselves never even made, about Heavy Rain's visuals being inconsistent or something like that.

NeoBasch2985d ago

I remember what you're talking about, but it didn't go down that way. People realized it was the motion capture studio, and that they weren't referring to the details such as textures but questionable animation practices instead: the jerky movements made when sliding an analog stick slowly. I'm sure they were also referring to the lipsynching. All of which has to do with their implementation of game mechanics. The fans didn't think that was fair considering it was a designer's choice.

Believe it or not...

Remedy is not one person.

"I certainly think it's cool that Alan Wake's writer has such a vocal respect for Sony's last big exclusive. It's much better to see developers tip their hats rather than sling mud, wouldn't you agree?"

Says the guy/girl who probably never played the game. I played it twice and i say that while it has it's problems (all games do), "IMO" it is deserving of all the praise it received.

If you had put "IMO" in your comment then maybe I would at least respect your opinion. But to say it like it's fact just cause that is how you feel is pretty shallow and self centered.

Imperator2985d ago

Remedy is very right to say so. Heavy Rain was an epic title that deserves the recognition it got. A niche game that certainly surprised us all. I'm sure Alan Wake will also be a great experience.

Remedy = Cool Devs, They don't need to talk crap about others

IF only T10 learn from Them...

Inside_out2985d ago (Edited 2985d ago )

Just goes to show you how different the world of fanboys and developers is.

I need to try both games. Unfortunately N4G trolls spoiled both games for me with spoilers.

BeaArthur2985d ago

Luckily I haven't had it spoiled yet. Still need to check it out.

Whoooop2985d ago (Edited 2985d ago )

Even though any game spoiled gets uninteresting for most, HR would still surprise you no matter the spoiler.

I got spoiled for HR, but the gameplay and the decisions I had to make really made up for the "who the killer was" spoiler (thing that got obvious at some point of the game, at least for me).

Alan Wake being spoiled is worse IMO because the gameplay doesn't vary much and the trajectory/environments of the game hardly change so you are walking/running and immersing yourself in the atmosphere just to see what's going to happen in the end.

In the end both games deserve the try, but I think that Heavy Rain is the only one between the two that can still be enjoyed after being spoiled.

Simon_Brezhnev2985d ago

not sure about that N4G spoiled Heavy Rain ending and when i actually got to the ending i was heated.

AKS2985d ago

Good reminder of what could happen. I made it through Heavy Rain without getting it spoiled. I better go into media blackout mode again for Alan Wake. I'm outta here.

mcgrawgamer2985d ago (Edited 2985d ago )

I'm with BeaArther neither game was spoiled for me so I'll be getting both in the futurr. But I do know what it means to have a game spoiled I did get hit with major Splinter Cell spoilers on this site and that had a role in me not purchasing that game.

T10 Disagree with you lol

Nah, everything is cool when People can respect one to each other, so Keep Making Great Games while We Keep Gaming

-Alpha2985d ago

T10? What's that?

It's a little silly though that our industry is so divided. I don't know any other industry-- music genre, cars, etc. that has such a deep division like this.

its a title that deserves more attention, and untimately more media attention, this "and" demons souls. those are the two main games for the past year or so that i have played the living hell out of.
