While it isn’t a title that is going to top anyone’s ‘must buy’ list, it is definitely a game that has strong appeal for the gamer who wants something somewhat casual and reminiscent of days gone by and still face a challenge in the modern gaming generation. That said, the game isn’t going to appeal to everyone. Actually, it won’t appeal to even a broad audience but those it will appeal to will absolutely love it if for nothing more than the fact it exists.
The control mechanics, the audio and the core concepts are retro chic, completely manufactured and devolved in comparison to what gamers have become accustomed. And normally, all of these things would detract from anything favorable to say about a game developed after 1995 but, 3D Dot Game Heroes is supposed to be exactly these things and delivers them beautifully.
