Nintendo predicts record Mario launch

New platform title looking to better Mario Kart Wii's UK release success.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 is expected to trump the success of all previous Mario titles.

The game was first announced at E3 last year but it is only in recent months that demand has begun to rise as details on Galaxy 2 emerge – and Nintendo believes this momentum will only grow.

The story is too old to be commented.

I uh, highly doubt that.

The marketing person does not understand gaming does he? Chess is not amazing, neither is nsmb. Yet the game play is challenging and fun.

It will beat the last galaxy yet nsmb is a strech. It will beat the old game because it borrows from nsmb more. The more it borrows the more itcwill sell just like nsmbwii.

I may get this game but seriously I'm only exited to see what they did art wise. I'm not looking forward to the game play. It does not excite me. It is nintendos only hd like game lol the sales prove it.

This will be easily in the top 3 biggest selling videogames worldwide in 2010, if not number 1. :)

Mean just the launch numbers in the UK, then it may be possible. But no way is it going to sell as much as Mario Kart or NSMB has or will. I think it will still sell over 7m when its all said and done.

But I can care less though, because all I care about is getting my one copy lol.

SMG2 will definitely sell over 10 million. I didn't have a Wii until last December when Wii hardware sold a record breaking 3.8 million in the USA. That tells me many Mario fans bought a Wii right when NSMBW hit like me. That will make a huge impact for SMG2 in the USA. But NSMBW is definitely a hard beast to beat with already 14.7 million worldwide. The marketing for SMG2 is phenomenal and Nintendo has usually been right this gen 9 times out of :)

Sequels are hard to measure. Sometimes the sequels don't sell as well as the original other times it outsells the original. I'd be more inclined to think it'd sell less. But I'd love to be wrong.

They are marketing this well, but the real trick is in the actual content of the game. It looks like its opening week in Japan might outdo the first also, so we'll see. I may be wrong in the long run.

10m though is a tall order for any game to acheive. But Nintendo has been churning 10-20m games like its the norm lol.
