Video Game Addiction

Phil of This Is My Joystick writes:

"Addiction ~ noun.

The state of being enslaved to a habit or practice or to something that is psychologically or physically habit-forming, as narcotics, to such an extent that its cessation causes severe trauma.

Now I am not the first person to suggest that video games may be addictive, in fact a simple google (or any other good search engine) search will give you hundreds of articles and studies into this very subject. In fact there have been so many in recent years that when the next version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) is published in 2012 video game addiction may well be an actual clinical disease.

So what? I hear you ask. Read on to find out."

There's no doubt in my mind that gaming is addictive. I think the interesting question is why is it addictive. I have been addicted to a few games over the years and I still don't understand why, I just felt the constant urge to play, and I planned everything around my gaming. World of Warcraft, then Guild Wars, and then a browser strategy game called Tribal Wars. What's annoying is that my gaming hobby actually suffers due to these games, as I have no time for other games.

I admit...I have been addicted to video gamming.
But don't worry...Suddenly you will get tired, like me.

Just make sure, not to waste the time in between gaming, then you won't suffer.

Game on..

Phil wrote a cracking piece. I have had a big gaming addiction for 21 years now. Just recently I have had to take a step back and let gaming have a break for a while. There are games I want to play, I just cant be bothered at the moment
