Capcom is Done With Original IP From the West

It's hard to find good help. In an interview with the Financial Times (registration required), Capcom president Haruhiro Tsujimota said that the company would only develop new IP in Japan, and use foreign studios solely for ports and sequels. Previously, the company had been using non-Japanese studios to develop new properties and franchises- in contrast to other Japanese publishers like Square Enix, which has pursued a strategy of acquiring foreign studios in their entirety.

Well even the Japanese Capcom developers are failing these days.

Looks like Capcom learns its lesson. They need to refocus on their roots.

IdleLeeSiuLung2957d ago (Edited 2957d ago )

Yeah, I guess they should stick to their own developers like the one that created Lost Planet 2!!!

It is not a East vs. West problem, but rather a Quality Control and Talent problem.

Cajun Chicken2957d ago

So they keep on saying, but still keep on releasing games developed in the West...

Bionic Commando and Dark Void aren't new IPs

tyrok3k2957d ago

Since when is Dark Void not a new IP?

Cajun Chicken2957d ago

I'd just like to remind you that Dead Rising 2 is being made by a western developer.

Sure it's not new IP but...yeah.

On relation, I'd still really like to have a full playthrough on Dark Void. Can't be that bad, one of my suprise games last year was Eat Lead, I really enjoyed that.

i thought bionic commando was a far better game than re5, lost planet and 99% of the megaman games. at least b.c. didn't completely betray the i.p. and was closer to the series roots than re5 was.

PandaJenkins2957d ago

I honestly thought RE5 was better, but I definitely don't think BC is as bad as everyone says it is. I enjoyed it, though it wasn't great or anything. My only big complaints were the length and the checkpoints really. Guess the online sucked too but the SP was fun and the game-play worked well for the most part.

Perjoss2957d ago

RE5 is a fantastic game until the zombies start shooting back, really :(

Maybe we'll get to see Breath of Fire 5 soon but I doubt it.

SaiyanFury2957d ago

Dude I don't know what the hell is going on at Capcom's Japanese head branch. I have multiple fighting games and RPGs for my original PS, and only 2-3 games on my PS2. I have zero games by them for my PS3. Where the hell IS Breath of Fire V? Where the hell is the sequel to Rival Schools? Capcom Japan almost seems to have disappeared and only western titles like Lost Planet that I was never able to get into appear. They acquired K2 the team that developed my favourite series Tenchu for FROM Software, so who knows what's happening.

Japanese devs have been trying to 'westernise' their games for a while now - and finally one of them has realised this doesn't work!

The sole reason some Japanese developers are popular in the West is because of the quirky and different types of games they provide! Why would they try and westernise!!

SquareEnix should take note!

Abriael2957d ago

Can't agree more. It's time to do away with the "westernization" and to do some "japanization" again, in the name of variety.

The gaming industry is becoming more and more flat.
