Kombo writes: "The world of professional skating has a long history with video games. From the first Skate or Die to Tony Hawk, most of the attention was paid to the extreme nature of the sport and outrageous tricks. True skating culture was exaggerated and twisted into many different shapes before EA came out swinging with Skate. Rather than attempting to beat rival Activision at its own game, they let Blackbox, known for Need for Speed, dive into the culture of skating and build a game grounded in reality. The other innovation was the trick stick that allowed for greater control over tricks and provided smoother transitions."
