Playstation Insider writes: "Split/Second, at least to my knowledge, seems to have just taken the cake for biggest required install for PS3 games. What's the deal?"
wow...that is pretty big. makes you wonder how some devs need and others don't.
Really, that is pretty huge for just a racing game. Then you have the 360 version which doesn't even run 720p. Seems both versions have negatives - one just for one time only while the other is permanent ;)
hey even Modnation Racers got 4.3GB install and it still loads bad X/
ooook what is up with the Disagree's its the truth im playing the game right now and im telling you, the game loads bad and it has a 4.3GB install check my Trophies on the PS3 if you don't believe PSN: Are_The_MaDNess oh and why cant i edit my comment? XD @below on my damn MNR cover and in my god damn PS3 Install folder ( i will try to send a pix if i find my USB cabel to my phone) ok when i doublecheck i can still see 4300MB minimum on the case but my install file says 3884MB X/ @ below again I know that (i think the Site needs an update) but check on the PS3 itself and you will see
What source tells you that MNR has a 4.3GB install? EDIT: http://us.playstation.com/p... No ModNation Racers. *Puts in alphabetical order* "...Mirrors Edge, Modern Warfare 2, Motorstorm..." No Modnation Racers trophies to be seen.
You pulled up his PSN ID and can clearly see this dude is a hardcore playstation user. I doubt he's making this up. I don't own the game but I don't see why he would be lying about the install. Doesn't seem like the troll you are trying to make him out to be.
There is an Install but It doesn't say how big the install is. Back of the Box http://www.gamestop.com/Cat... Front of the Box http://www.gamestop.com/Cat... And they are already having a patch coming out, maybe to fix any load issues.
Are_The_MaDNess wanted me to post this for him since he is out of Bubbles. " http://s497.photobucket.com... http://s497.photobucket.com... http://s497.photobucket.com... http://s497.photobucket.com... http://s497.photobucket.com... its a little foggy but you can see the 4300MB min there tho" Keep in mind this is the EU Version, It's already out over there.
Split-Second = 1280x720 (2xAA) - PS3 Split-Second = 1280x672 (2xAA) - 360
I personally don't see the problem with installs, I remember the old days when you had to load a cassette tape up to play a game which consisted of only different coloured lines! such as http://www.google.co.uk/ima...
on every gaming sites fanboys always call others a troll to make them feel cool, you know peers pressures :P edit* @Are_The_MaDNess I just type your name on google and it said you have played 261 games wtf lol no offense but do you have a life other than games jk :P Games 4 life! yeah baby haahaaha
The hard drive would need some spare room to unpack and install the game onto it - which would probably account for the discrepancy between the actual file size and the amount of room needed.
I got a 320gb Western Digital for $55 and haven't looked back. Now I can load my hdd full of HD video and installs aren't a problem at all.
same here. I want to get a 500GB now just because. Even though I don't need it I feel I should 'just because' I can. Unlike the 360...but that's another topic.
Except I upgraded to just 250GB over a year ago. Still only cost me $50, but I've still got over 150 GB to spare with all my installs, expansion packs, full games and half of the Planet Earth series in 1080p.
Blaze has a PS3 now and is slamming the 360??? I dont believe this.
MGS4 installs weren't so bad but on second play through they could have left the files there so you wouldn't have to re-install the files for second play through.. What idiot thought of wiping the files after you played through??? At least give us an option!!!! I finished the game then went to play again and realised the huge long installs were back?? I was like WTF?!?!?! As for space my 500GB easily enough as is 250gb PS3's so its a dead issue... hell even 120gbs last enough time..
I liked the MGS4 installs, something about watching Snake smoke cigarettes is so hypnotic. Best installation screen to date in gaming. Plus, it was the best game and movie of 2008. MGS4 FTW.
Still the best game this gen. And I've played God of War 3 and Uncharted 2. Anyone know the correlation here? Haha PS3 owns all consoles.
Gotta agree. MGS4 is still the best game I've played this gen, and that's after playing GOWIII and UC2.
GOW3,FF13,UCDF,UC2,LBP and countless other have gotten over this problem. Not to mention most of those are STILL the most impressive games to date. So save it, I don`t wanta hear about it.
Don't lame looking for hit sites have better things to do? I mean this is so tired and played out. Most PS3 gamers I know have a 500 gig hard drive in their consoles. They are dirt cheap and a breeze to install.
That's bigger than most games on the Xbox 360. Sheesh, how big is the actual game then?
The weird thing is that these are the same guys that made Pure which only had an optional install of about 1gb to improve load times.
@Are_The_Madness N4G users don't use common sense. If you point something bad out regarding a game, you'll get disagrees. BTW, you just have a lot of games. http://us.playstation.com/p... I haz a lot of games but only *6 aren't above 50%. I IZ BETTERZ. >:[
Isn't that the size of the entire game on 360? Why in the world is it so huge? And here I thought the 5 GB install on GT5 Prologue was excessive.
Who cares? This game is lame.
The author hasn't been around PS3 too long. Bioshock, Bioshock 2, DMC4, Oblivion, MGS4, Bourne Conspiracy, RE5, SOCOM, are all around 5gb install and there's just as many if not more with 3-4gb installs (Far Cry 2, GTAIV, Assassin's Creed, GTA: EFLC, DA: O, Starwars: Force Unleashed, RB6: Vegas2). I never thought the installs were a real big deal to begin with. Sony put a an hdd in the PS3 for a reason and also made it so that the consumer could upgrade it themselves. It seems like it's gotten much better. When I first bought my PS3 back in 07 seemed like a lot of PS3 titles had large mandatory installs, now it seems like there's just as many with little to no install.
i would rather have large installs that not be able to play the best fnk games out there. and its not even like the installs are even that big. the articles now are soo predictable
for a racing game though, this is ridiculous. obviously these devs dont lead on PS3.
Actually, they developed both the PS3 and 360 version from the ground up (based on a interview with Digital Foundry). I guess in exchange for the 7gb's, the PS3 version gets pretty good performance throughout the game.
well i guess thats a good thing. compared to the 360 version of the demo I played, the PS3 version matches it %99.9 well.
"and its not even like the installs are even that big." A 7 GB install isn't big? Pretty sure that's big.
7GB is the biggest space so far. MGS4 is reasonable and it is 5 or 6GB of space, the game is bigger than 30GBs But Split Second, wonder why developers design the game like that.
How big is MGS4's install altogether? At each chapter it wipes the previous one and installs again, so we never have the entire install at one time, although I REALLY would have liked that option rather than install every frickin chapter on every playthrough. I'm guessing it was probably about 12 GB altogether, base on the amount of time each one took(some of them were relatively short)
7gb is huge! That's like a whole season of some tv series' dvd rip i downloaded. Basically the whole game is in the PS3 but it still needs the disk? Is that how this game works?
And I'm wondering if this game is worth it in any platform. Is it any good?
It looks pretty entertaining. And it's gorgeous from what I've seen. Also, I really enjoy the fact that the HUD is displayed behind the car itself, rather than on the screen to give you a more immersible experience.
I am sure that if you love arcade racers and games like Burnout, this will be your cup of tea.
The demo has me hooked!! I've played the same track in the demo about 25 times already. After the first play through I was underwhelmed but then after the third and fourth race I was impressed. Can't wait to get the full game.
you did the same thing i did huh i love drifting i dont know why its a since of accomplishment being able to drift around the corner with the ai causing an explosion that sends you flying to the wall giving you a split second to correct youre steering and throttle which seems like forever to me because i have really fast reactions
Luckily every PS3 comes with a hardrive.
YOU WHAT?!? Takes the p***. Might aswell not put the disc in for playing it.
Whenever I see installs like this, I wonder why they just didn't make the game a PSN downloadable.
o_0 wtf man thats massive for a racing game. If its because they didn't lead on PS3, then maybe they should do that next time.
Thats odd considering they made PURE which was a good game and im sure it didn't have an install.
PS3 Installs, a Problem. 360 Installs, a Blessing!
360 installs aren't required.
"360 installs aren't required." But I'm pretty sure they're recommended. :P
I sure as heck recommend them. Unless you live next door to an airport, in which case you shouldn't mind.
They are if you want to HEAR the actual game.
As far as I'm concerned, they're required. 360 sounds horrible playing uninstalled games. It's a different kind of install, though. 360 install is like a PC install. Disc just chills in the tray as verification. PS3 install is different. It's not often that you hear the disc in the PS3, but I remember hearing it a lot during MGS4, which had an absurd amount of installs, so the games seem to access both simultaneously.
................... . + You get that time back with shorter load times in game. . + You can delete the install when you finish the game. . + PS3 stock drives have plenty of space. . + 2.5'' SATA hard drives are cheap if you need more space. . ...................
it only does everything...but a little bit slower... lol jk xD
PS3: Split-Second = 1280x720 (2xAA) http://images.eurogamer.net... 360: Split-Second = 1280x672 (2xAA) http://images.eurogamer.net... Note: Native resolutions aside, the 360 version shouldn't be knocked, it produces less torn frames, and can output the game in 1080p... unlike the PS3. Fun game though right?
not real 1080p.
Mr.Pope, you saying the 360 version can't OUTPUT real 1080p? the native resolution will of course, stay the same, but the difference between outputting in 1080p versus 720p can be important too. Outputting in 720p will require most 1080p HDTVs to scale the video image, resulting in some substantial input lag for some. While 1080p output will require ZERO scaling, ... a "one-for-one" transfer basically...
Yep, the 360 CAN'T put out 1080p simple is that. Remember back, Microsoft said, we don't need Blu-ray or 1080p resolution. Then suddenly, BAM......1.2 HDMI and upscale to 1080p that means not true 1080p, that's why Microsoft hires poeple for making the 360 and other hardware related. Microsoft is no hardware company, it's a software company. Sony is a Hardware company and Software company in one house.
Theres a total of 3 full 1080p 360 games. Fifa Street NBA Street something... and a XBL game Truth is... it can output 1080p, developers choose not to though, because that kind of graphics horsepower is taxing, so its better to use it for visual effects, 60fps, etc.
Trust me ya don't want me to comment on these pictures, I'll just say one is blurrier then the other and the blurry one is the version you just beefed up, so I'm not sure what your talking about, Open both versions up side by side and you can clearly see a difference. I Know someone will reply and say "Yeah but this or but that", who cares?, I'm not blind and I see a Difference, is it because the one you beefed up is slightly a fraction of a second later then the other one when these pictures were takin? nobody knows what caused the blur, so if that is your 1080 version I wouldn't want it anyways if I had both consoles.
@Silent As guy above said PS3 version is clearly sharper in those shots. I mean I think this is the first time I see such a difference favoring the PS3. BTW, I dont support a game with such a massive install file. I have available HDD space but come on it's 2010, get with the times.
MGS4 with MGO installed as well nears 10gb. Its around 8-9 gb
only 1k people play MGO. me included. plus some people consider them seperate entitys.
There is still over 1k people playing MGO at a time roughly 2 years after the games release. Only during survival though...
I could never get into MGO. It wasn't easy on newcomers (and the 'training' I went through consisted of a bunch of idiots knocking me over all the time...) That being said, MGS4 is still my favorite game this gen. The single-player is an absolute masterpiece.
Well worth th install though. I love the shit outa that game! Still play MGO to this day. Some of the best online ever. From the way they handle spawning, innovative game modes(TSNE), and making headshots actually worth a damn, to the deep level of character customization and weekly tournaments compete and earn money for them. If only the net code was better and the game was integrated into the PSN instead of that Konami BS... =/
7 gigs? That's just asking for to much space. This is 2010. Can't they get this figured out already?
Why is there a need for these articles? (commenting in general here) We know that some games require installs and some don't. We don't need articles divulging about known old facts. This should already be a norm for the gaming scene, just like PC installs. (unless you want to know each PCs games install space on you HDD) The article has a good point though. 7GB is pretty ludicrous. ;)
