PS3 gamers running low on hard drive space may want to do some cleaning up – the required hard drive space for Red Dead Redemption has been revealed.
The site is now up. Sorry for the inconvenience
Not bad, not bad at all. 600mb is nothing compared to GTA4 3GB or so.
That's good to hear.
Small size in my point of view. But is good to install. Less loading times, less time reading disc etc.
I love my 500 gb internal hdd, news like this doesn't even faze me anymore.
Indeed. I've got a 300gb in my own PS3. No sweat.
Yeah, it's so nice of Sony to make it extremely painless to upgrade the hard drive. I was more than a little pissed when I first discovered that I'd have to pay an outrageous amount for a 120GB hard drive for my 360 when I could get a 500GB HDD for the same amount for my PS3. Granted, I believe there is a way to modify the casing that the 360 HDDs come in so you can add your own, but I'm not sure they still work after the update that disabled non-licensed media. And even if they do, it's a pain to modify from what I hear.
Not 5 minutes ago I just installed a new 500gb hdd for my ps3. I'm loving it.
I think 320gb is plenty. It's always good to delete junk.
If not 5 minutes ago then when did you install it. 10 minutes? yesterday? last week? I Need To Know! TELL ME GOD DAMN IT! j/k :)
I still have that 60 GB of space and I'm still good.
I have 40GB and I'm about to top myself.
very nice Finally Rockstar love for the PS3! Blood is thicker than water, I guess.
Can you get those in a store or something? I am fine with my 120GB but it is always nice to upgrade, I could put videos or music on it aswell and not just games.
@Legosz Do you mean get the hard drives in a store? If so, then the answer is Yes. All it needs is a 2.5" hard drive. You can get those practically anywhere. On another note, I think it's great that you can upgrade your PS3 hard drive, but I always fill mine up before I think about upgrading. Then, I don't have anywhere to store the backup (all my external HDD drives on my comp are formatted to the wrong file system).
with my 500 i have almost 300 gbs left i have a hard time filling it..
Exclusive Content for PS3 + Very small space for HDD. That's all you need I think.
Yeah, mandatory instals are a non-issue. Funny how the headline tries to make it a big deal. P.S Who cares what version people are getting, stop the fanboy cr*p (aimed at people below).
Then with the free extra content, it's no contest. Ps3 version it is.
Cry all you want, but we PS3 owners dont worry about space because we have plenty of space, and if we run out of local space the PS3 allows us to use other and even cheaper portable memory storage devices that is all ready on the market. We can even upgrade our non propitiatory HDD.
"PS3 gamers running low on hard drive space.." Upgraded my HDD to 320GB a while back for the price of $50. 600MB is nothing.
Yep it's extremely modest considering the type of game it is. I also wonder how much space it takes on the PS3.
lol is that a joke, my fallout3 saves take more space than that(about 10-15mb each got like 100+ saves) I think i best upgrade my 500gb hdd 600mb is alot..............
"PS3 gamers running low on hard drive space may want to do some cleaning up" When I read that I though, oh shaiit game is gonna have a 5+G install. 600M? really? my demos are twice o triple that size.
Im thinking about swapping out my old 60gb HDD but im concerned that my saves wont carry over, or I cannot gain any new trophies working from my previous saves? Can anyone confirm? This worries me as I still have work to do in FFXIII and I dont want to loose progress on a game Ive sank 90+hours into.
Your saves and everything WILL carry over, because you'll do a full system backup before you swap out. Make sure however that you have a separate drive with enough free space on it to do your backup before you begin.
2 games that can't be copied and carried over so far are killzone 2 and dante's inferno. if you own them, platinum those two first before you swap drives. not copying certain files suck.
Thanks for that, il gonna pick up a nice 400GB in the week plus a smaller external for back ups. I do own KZ2 but not too fussed about that save not getting carried over. More worried out my big RPG games. When i scroll down my saves at high speed it takes 10-15seconds to reach the end of the list.. Scary when you consider the speed!!!
big papa is completely WRONG sigh.... i have killzone and i upgraded to a 500 in december and somehow those saves managed to make their way onto my new drive.... oh and bigpappa there is a built in backup and restore utility, and if you use that you will not loose any saves as long as you restore to the same playstation, but if you just stick a flash drive in and try to copy those saves that way... well thats a no go.
Does anyone know if the attachment fans are good enough to sustain the system because it overheats in 10 seconds? My fan isn't operating and I just need enough time to transfer my data from one PS3 to the next, but I don't want to buy one if it won't work! PM me please!
If it's not under warranty, then open it up. I'm not sure what the inside looks like, but if the fan is just on the housing, then opening the case and putting a box fan there should do the trick. If the fan is on a chip, though, that won't work.
uh yeah its a hell of alot more complicated then that....
600mb? Pffft. That's nothing. I've downloaded demos bigger than that. Speaking of, if you're looking to clear up some space, deleting demos is a great way to do it. If you're like me, and you let them build up, it adds up to a good 5-10 GB by time you delete them all. Insane.
Honestly I always choose the optional installs if they are available. Valkyria Chronicles, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Resonance of Fate all have optional. Would be nice if all games had optional installs because then we'd hear less whining :) But yeah just like a lot of other people, I have upgraded my harddrive. Swapped out the 160GB i had for a 320. The 160 makes for a nice small external drive.
also i would like to add im glad that the game is 720p, sadly i have been hearing rumors it was sub-hd on the ps3, well i guess we can all stop speculating, proof is in the pudding. go to the website. red dead ftmfw!
Just because it says 720p on the back of the box doesn't mean it renders at a native resolution of 720p. Still hoping San Diego did a better job than Rockstar North though.
There's no reason it shouldn't run at 720p on PS3. GTA4 came out a (relatively) long time ago, and if they can't beef up the PS3 version of that engine by now, then they're just being lazy.
A little over half a gig isn't too bad at all.
Like everyone else said.. .6 gigs..whippie skippie lol. Barely over half a gig.
wow, 600mbs!!!?? awesome!!!! RDR's map is bigger than GTA4? or not? just curious
Yeah, is bigger than GTA IV.
With three areas each about the size of Liberty City.
Honestly this is nothing. But I am tired of installing stuff in general and yes i know its helpful but there are good games that does not require installation which runs amazing like god of war 3. But on topic I'm glad its not ridiculous like 2000mg etc.
I'll still be getting the superior PS3 version with exclusive content.
Fail troll is fail. No one gives a crap about a costume and a hideout you'll barely even use, so stop trying to start shit.
God damn what a pain...
Who cares about how much space it takes? Either you get a bigger hard drive or you free some space for the new game, no big deal...
Porn or Red dead? This is a tough decision indeed.
Depends what KIND of porn. Red Dead Redemption porn?! What happens then?!
it's not like we get gouged on prices or have to deal with proprietary hardware. 600mb is nothing.don't even have to try and fit it on a memory card.
me, im still rocking 60gb. tbh its more than enough
I still have the original 60GB HDD too! Yes I have to delete some game installs to play the new ones, but no problem! But I'm thinking of upgrading my HDD soon!
what is 600mb... i laugh at that.. hahaah ......
will be the best 600mb you ever used on your system, case closed.
I'm betting the PS3 will have better load times and zero pop-ups
Compared to ? on my 250GB HDD on xbox360 i have half a doz games already and i can easily install this one as well. no need for drive to keep spinning where as on ps3 you have mandatory install but no full install so you'r BDdrive will need to keep spining. So i think like GTAIV 360 this will be better version.
Haha. He said BDdrive like it was a bad thing!
I think a lot of people is confusing getting a bigger Hd. I should not have to buy a bigger HD because of installs. I should buy a bigger hard drive for when I purchase movies or episodes of my favorite anime. Not Holding a massive amount of space installing a game. Most of my hard drive is drained because of installing. 5gigs is ridiculous thats like 3 HD movies. Seriously I'm just tired of installing. I know it helps makes the game run better but developers get away with way to much this generation its crazy lol. Seriously with all the installs I have on my hard drive thats basically the same as having all 230 naruto episodes of all 8 seasons.
I hate to tell you this, but just because you've downloaded "HD rips" of movies does not make 3 of them total out at 5GBs. Actual high definition movies are more like 20-30GBs. When you download your HD rips, they aren't in true high def. They're actually closer to standard def as far as quality goes, maybe getting up to 304x720, but with horrible compression and bit rates. As for the whining over installs, I don't really see what the problem is. Oh no, you have to wait a few minutes before you can start playing. Boohoo. Why not be smart about your time? When you get home with your game, pop it in and start the install, then go do something while you're waiting. Get some chores done so your mom won't bother you while you're playing. And so what if it takes up space that you'd rather use for useless crap? Why even bother storing videos on your PS3 in the first place? Just keep them on your PC and stream them to you PS3. It's not too difficult to do, especially if you have windows 7. Just sayin'.
Think you missed the point.
[email protected] assuming everyone lives at home with their mom.
Chores for your mom...lulz
We know who lives with their mommy.
Thats not even worth mentioning.
I agree man. Messed up thing is, almost every Capcom game I own, other than Street Fighter 4, has at least a 5 gig install. Add in Bioshock 1 and 2, MGS4, GTA 4, well, I'm not going to name them all, but those games alone take up a crazy amount of space that could be put to better use. I have a 500 gig hard drive, but not everyone does. If a game this massive only takes up 600MB, I think some of these companies need to get a few tips from Rockstar. Reply fail. That was aimed at Colonel-Killzone
OMG capcom lol they get on my damn nerves i think lost planet 2 was like 4 gigs or so and then re5 was i believe 5 gigs I don't mind installs really but jesus 5 gigs ???? Yeah infamous was 1.3 gigs assassin creed 2 i believe was 2 gigs marvel alliance was like 3 gigs socom was 2 gigs plus the damn updates they have. Naruto ultimate ninja storm was almost 6 gigs its insane now when you think about it lol.
Yeah man, It really is. That's a crap load of space with the games you and me mentioned alone. Don't really know what can be done to save some space because I'm not a game developer, but I hope they can figure something out to give our hard drives some breathing room. Rockstar seemed to figure it out in between GTA4 and Red Dead, so hopefully others can too. (Capcom)
You say here that you "don't mind installs" yet you bitch about them in your other comments above. Hmm...
i must be an oddball, 120 gigs does me just fine. i've got a ton of pics, a ton of game saves and a ton of o&a mp3s and i've still got 80 gigs left.
