Lawrence Sonntag writes: Socially acceptable topics like movies, politics, or the weather are so pervasive that people often read up on them just so they can keep up with the crowd. These things can all be dropped as pleasantries to someone in line at the grocery store, but popping off about video games makes one seem like a socially maladjusted nerd.
