The media will have you believe that violence in video games breeds violence in real life. Killing droves of soulless entities will eventually desensitize you to doing it in real life. We hear it all. However, the media may not be looking closely enough. Any solid argument requires a verifiable opposite. For example, you could argue that eating excess amounts of cheese causes depression provided that not eating cheese has been shown to cause the opposite. Have they proven their point with violent video games? As you will hopefully conclude, not at all.
