Gamers Revenge writes: "What defines survival horror? Some say it’s an action/adventure game inspired by horror fiction while others think the genre focuses on strategic combat and enemy avoidance as a result of limited weaponry and ammunition. To me, it usually means the player suffers restricted mobility and/or awkward combat in order to heighten the tension. But just like waves of enemies spawning as soon as you grab a power-up in Doom, this is nothing more than a cheap trick. Alan Wake doesn’t like cheap tricks."
