Kaz Hirai confirms SCEE statement: 60GB discontinued for US market. Only $599 SKU available.

KAZ HIRAI: "Well, again, just from a hardware perspective, the 499 dollar price adjustment that we did for the 60 GB version, for the American market, uh, we're no longer in production for that product, so uh once that product is gone from the retailer shelves, then we're back to the $599 SKU only, so it's not like we have a two price strategy here in the US market. We found out very early on, you know, consumers react mostly to just having one SKU as opposed to two."

The story is too old to be commented.

That's not really a price drop, is it?

If this is true...That's EXACTLY what I'm talking about. Sony could have easily made that statement with the original press release. Instead, they sucker punched their customers into believing that they had taking a leap of good faith. Sony is the epitimy of the statement "It's Business". They have NO loyality to their customers.

But I highly doubt they'll continue selling the 80GB as a bundle ONLY after the 60GB is dicontinued. Think about... without the game and extra controller, the 80GB is going to be around $499 also!

Wow! Sony - you had me down for a purchase of a PS3 by Christmas. You've lost me again for awhile...

bootsielon3999d ago

I've always said it. People should rush and get the 60 GB version, since it has superior backwards compatibility (unless it's not important to you).

Anyway, they'll probably drop the price to $399 later on.

ShiftyLookingCow3999d ago

Thats why I got it. But for 399 its not going to happen in sometime unless PS3 sales stink which I believe now is unlikely

Why do they keep shooting themselves in the head everytime they have a bi of momentum?
