Has Nintendo peaked? That's the question essentially raised by Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter.
"Stop talking says Tunaks1"
Agreed! And this whole:"The DSi’s $169 price point and the DSi XL’s $189 price point make the purchase of a $199 iPod Touch more tempting in 2010" is nonsense. It is just my opinion but I don't believe that people purchase the ipod touch when looking for a portable gaming system.
"Wii Price Cut a Must to Keep Demand Steady" But demand doesn't work that way. "we expect the other consoles to be lower-priced by then, further eroding the Wii’s competitive price advantage" I'm curious as to whether this lower price-point is going to be before or after Move and Natal are released.
It gets better, found another article by him posted today: "According to Pachter, the slump in Nintendo's profits is a result of its reluctance to announce a successor to the Wii, poor third-party support and an uninspiring release schedule." The wii 2 delay is hurting them one quarter after breaking console sales records? Does he think they should have released the wii 2 before they made bank on existing stock or now, half a year away from Christmas? He isn't even trying to sound credible anymore. Mario, Zelda, and Metroid arrive this year with S and P coming in a couple months. That is the best Nintendo release schedule I've ever seen. He's getting paid to say this. Remember when he apologized for insulting the PSPgo? I heard they took back one of his porches.
"According to Pachter, the slump in Nintendo's profits is a result of its reluctance to announce a successor to the Wii" Wow, he really does only know one song. "Mario, Zelda, and Metroid arrive this year with S and P coming in a couple months. That is the best Nintendo release schedule I've ever seen." That statement would be true even without those first three games, though.
Agreed, I only preordered SMG2 cause the 20 dollar amazon credit can help with Sin and Punishment. Together they show how Pachter isn't even a fucking analyst. Most of them look at data or past sales. He essentially speculates wild bullshit with no past data or trend prediction. Then he sells his "analysis" to companies like Sony, probably with the implicit understanding he'll act as PR. Meanwhile they'll use his report to placate furious investors while protecting execs from their previous decisions. It's the most obvious sham marriage I've ever seen. Why would anyone give away their analysis unless it was actually worthless? He has been wrong for fucking years and people are still paying him for something. The interesting question is whether Pachter knows his role or is too narcissistic to accept it. I heard he's a lawyer so I bet the latter.
Wii: $149 360: $149 360 Elte: $199 PS3 Slim 120GB: $149 PS3 Slim 250GB: $199 Their that should do it for everyone, I think thoses are some pretty nice prices an not to low Vs what they are now. Then again, my gf has the Wii an right now I got a 360 Elite an will be getting a PS3 Slim 120GB(Not like it matters with 500GB HD) coming next month for me.
I highly doubt a PS3 price cut yet. I'm sure Sony appreciates the numbers the PS3 is selling at now and would like to continue making profit off of it than to bleed more cash. I also think the 360 will always aim to have one of its SKU's to be cheaper than the lowest-costing PS3. That's generally more appealing to the customer's eyes.
I do think their will be a ps3 price-cut to go along w/ the new SKUs that will be bundled with Move. Ps3 will probably get dropped 50 dollars + move will probably be worth like 50 dollars keeping the 299 value. Nintendo dont NEED a price drop but it will really hurt move sales if they did do a drop if Nintendo decides to say FUCK YOU SONY!!! they can drop the price. Natal wont affect any sales either way so Nintendo will probably sit back and see how well received Move is before making a decision.
Why does everything that comes out of Patcher's gets posted on N4G? "Has Nintendo peaked?" Hopefully they'll hit rock bottom.
The Wii still outsells the ps3 and 360 in every territory year after year so apparently they are doing just fine when it comes to keeping a steady demand. Microsoft and Sony can drop their price and release natal/ move etc and do whatever else they need to have their best year ever and Nintendo can have their worst year ever (which isn't going to happen) and they would still end up on top of Microsoft and Sony
YOUR PREDICTIONS ARE JUST PLAN DAMN DUMB PATCHER.
"In the future, lower pricing on the PS3 and Xbox 360 will provide consumers with a more difficult choice when considering a new console. The Wii enjoyed a $350 price advantage over the PS3 at launch, and a $150 advantage until September. Now, the gap has narrowed to $100, with the feature-laden PS3 a tempting purchase for prospective console households. The holiday Wii sales boost was primarily attributable to a $50 gift card promotion offered by Wal-Mart; while we expect similar promotions at holiday next year, we expect the other consoles to be lower-priced by then, further eroding the Wii’s competitive price advantage,..." Oh, sure. Let's keep cutting that price, even though, the Wii has only been $200 for about 8 months, even though its competitors are still scrambling to play catch up...sigh "...However, we believe Nintendo will have to cut price later this year in order to keep demand steady. Should the Wii price point remain at $199, we think that the December quarter poses a difficult comparison, and we expect the company to have difficulty meeting its overall sales goal for the fiscal year." Just stop it, Patcher. You're fail is dirtying the carpet.
"The DSi’s $169 price point and the DSi XL’s $189 price point make the purchase of a $199 iPod Touch more tempting in 2010. While we think that the DS is a superior gaming platform, the iPod is a more versatile device, and has a 'coolness' factor that is difficult to overcome. The introduction of the 3DS some time this fiscal year may serve to hold off substitution of iPod Touch for DS, but we think that ultimately, Apple will gain share in the handheld market,..." Really, Patcher??! The ipod will overcome the DS because its more cooler??!, even though it costs $30 more???!! Really??!/there is no facepalm that is compatible with such fail
