Nathan Schmidt Writes... "While news of Bungie signing a ten year publishing deal with Activision is still sending ripples through the game industry, many have started to speculate "What was Bungie thinking?..."
The check with 15 zero's at the end. Thats what they were thinking about. Cant blame them though.
Yepper, that's the only reason I can think of...
Actually there's most likely a few reasons for this. As La Chance said, there probably was a hell of a lot of money involved, but Bungie wouldn't have signed with Activision on that basis alone. The most important thing to note with this deal is that Bungie will retain the IP of their next game, which wasn't possible with Halo, and I'm 100% sure that Bungie asked Microsoft for a similar deal, and they refused. And who can blame them? MS know that whatever Bungie do on 360 would have sold millions, they'd want to keep that franchise exclusive. For example, what would be happening to the Halo fanboys right now if the Halo IP was owned by Bungie and coming to PS3? The Activision deal is the best for both Activision and Bungie, the only loser here is Microsoft really, because they are losing (well not fully) the talent that made the Xbox successful really. Will be interesting to see if another dev can pull a Halo off, but that usually isn't the case, especially if you look at other games where IPs were sold off e.g. Spyro/Crash. That said, I'm not a massive Halo fan (they're good not great IMO), but I know a lot of people like that specific type of gameplay that Bungie delivers.
More zeros than pi has digits!
Thinking about getting More bread obviously. what kind of question is that lol?.
Money talks, man. Square, Rockstar, Ubisoft, Bethesda...
Master Chief's Pro Skater. 'nuff said.
Yep, seems money talks and everything else is just BS!
Because they wanted world peace. Stupid question.
in all fairness, dont assume bungie is on the losing end of any deal.. they are a high profile company with a list of successful games, games that have outsold a majority of the competition they didnt walk into the activision studios scared, they walked in proud and i'm sure with a list of their own demands and stipulations.. infity ward did not have as good as bungie does when they signed their deal
that they are more than a one trick pony, and the only publisher that could afford them answered the call.
