From one perspective, this article seems heavily biased against MS, especially in the absurd lack of comparative coverage...

And while I despise bias, I...agree. Microsoft will have a phenomenal fall line up, in my opinion the clear leader of the bunch, but the press conference simply lacked the excitement I was expecting...

The mass market may not care about the details of this E3, since MS is largely correct with its Halo 3, Madden, and GTA notice...but that doesn't mean they gave me anything to be excited about as a hardcore gamer.

The lack of new exclusives, the numbers we already knew, the absurd attempt to capture the Wii market (SceneIT?), the horribly awkward VP of marketing speech simply pale in comparison to what Sony and Nintendo brought to the show. Sony's show was even extended with 3rd party publishers confirming exclusives (even timed ones).

Finally, I consider the gears announcement an utter slap in the face. We ALL know the content will come to the 360, we all know that the only people that are going to care are 360 owners, and we all know that an announcement of 5 new chapters and the new boss would be a HUGE and exciting announcement. Because they went with the PC, however, very, very few people case and I personally feel a little cheated for buying the 360 experience.

This holiday was already dedicated to my 360, but Sony and Nintendo both gave me hope that I will soon be able to dust the grime off my consoles and get compelling experiences that I'd see nowhere else. I no longer see the Wii and the PS3 as a software wasteland. That isn't good news for MS.

...what was so exciting about Sony's presentation? 'Home' didn't show anything new, the chewbacca thing was terribly embarrassing and maybe the new PSP which OMG is 30 percent lighter and thinner. Not that impressive IMHO. MS showed that they are here now and have the strongest line up for the rest of the year. The Killer zone trailer look better than anyone expected and Sony used it like they used it in 05. Pumped up the hype for something that won't be here anytime soon, as always the media gobbled it up. My perspective on the lack of good games on the PS3 and Wii will only change when they are on the shelf available to buy and worth doing so. One flashy trailer isn't enough to change the present reality.

Edit for Kennedy below:
Sony definitely dominated the attention today for sure. MS have more than a few games this fall and they only focused on the games this year, they have more to say when it comes to 2008.

Edit to Lorenzferus below:
I agree Lair, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, Ratchet & Clank Future look like great games. As it was when I bought my 360, I didn't go out and buy it because of what's coming but what was available on the shelves when I pick up the console. I almost bought a PS3 when I saw the trailer of Motorstorm and RFOM. But after playing them, I didn't feel it was worth the 600 bones just for those games, so I decided to wait. When I read the solid reviews and are impressed with these new PS3 games I'll buy the PS3. I don't like submitting posts like this because they are usually perceived as 'biased' or as 'damage control' but I don't think anyone can expect everyone to buy into potential instead of product. So that's it, didn't want to belittle what Sony did at E3's press conference, they did a great job, enuff said, now back to my CRACK.

I can't argue with Microsofts business approach, and it's Halo, GTA, Madden way of thinking.

But I guess Sony can counter with, GTA, Madden, and Haze/Unreal 3.

PS3 still doesn't have that one game to counter Halo 3 this year, but I just shake my head at people who still say PS3 doesn't have any games coming. It's got almost all the same major third party games XBOX 360 does and a good slew of 5 or 6 first party titles that look killer. I'm not being kind or anything, How can you say Lair, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, Ratchet & Clank Future don't mean anything? That's a diverse lineup of games. None of those are Halo 3, but I see some potential console pushers their. And of course, I haven't even mentioned HOME, that's looking like it's gonna be a big asset.

I think PS3 has a chance to appeal to the Japanese and Europeans more this year than Americans, Americans are too stuck on their online play and their shooters right now but Haze and Unreal 3 help, I don't know what Sony would of done without those games this year. They were wise to pick them up.

So Wile, did you buy the 360 before Gears or afterwards? B/c until Gears the MS lineup was almost identical in how many quality games it had available. (not to mention the PS2's much better library as BC games)

MSFT is definitely getting the short end of the stick, and frankly it's because they focused on stuff everyone already knew. Yes, they have one of the best holiday lineups EVER. But we KNEW that already. The fact is, that wasn't as exciting as MSFT wanted it to be. We wanted to know what we'd be playing AFTER Halo 3 and Mass Effect. And they gave us pretty el-zilcho.

Sony, now, the KZ2 trailer and the NCSoft announcement were huge. But again, Sony is full of promises... while they have some GREAT stuff that is coming this year, the biggies are all in 2008 (MGS4, FFXIII, KZ2).

And Nintendo? I don't even know where to begin. They're being called the victor because of WiiFit? Is it April? Nintendo is pulling the biggest joke of the century right to the bank. Last gen graphics coupled with some arm-waving... that's next gen? Blech.

My order:
1. Sony (and frankly, they HAD TO WIN)
2. Microsoft (lousy conference, but the games will sell systems this year)
3. Nintendo (please enter the 21st century; stop dragging us all backwards)

Maybe the 360 has a few good ones this Fall, but so does the PS3...and it has a good line-up NEXT year too. That's something the 360 doesn't have.

Sony OWNED today and everyone knows it...except Attack of the Show...for some reason.

GOW going PC is great though. Epic's been a HUGE PC supporter in the past...why not put it there? UTIII is a PS3 "timed exclusive". Even though Jack said, and I quote, "it is a PS3 exclusive".

We still haven't seen the exclusive PS3 game that Epic is developing. I hope it's good.

BBsin3875d ago

He said unreal was an exclusive.... for THIS year.

risk3875d ago

if UE3 and Haze are exclusive for this holiday season, and games liek Lair, heavenly sword, rachet and clank, uncharted, and LBP can take the Holiday season, MGS4, FFXIII and Killzone can take it for next year its what they have in stock right now..and for next year, and i dont think halo3 will be the premiere XBOX title forever..just look at Gears of war, it ate halo's supporters for the online experience maybe halo 3 will take em back nobody knows.

Eagle Eye3875d ago (Edited 3875d ago )

nobody can say what MS will do next year. I think sony only put on a better show and pulled out all their cards & went all out. MS kept it low key and only show what is coming out soon except re5. So i disagree. But they all had great line ups. But I really liked that HAZE and MGS4 AND Killzone 2 videos. But its wasnt like Mass Effect, COD4, lost odyssey and Halo 3 were anything to laugh at.

Recognize redemption and quit acting as if you're crack addicts in denial. Sony did what they had to and rightfully garnered the most attention... so far.

Sit back, relax and enjoy the rest of E3 and quit being armchair analysts.
