After Demon's Souls and 3D Dot Game Heroes, it seems like FromSoftware is making yet another PS3 exclusive title.
I WANT DS2!
Will probably announce DS2 at TGS: will make a very nice announcement at Sony's conference hopefully alongside a new Legend of Dragoon. I do hope this title gets an English release
Well, Fromsoftware aren't known for stellar titles. If it wasn't for Sony's SCEJ involvement with Demon Souls that game would have most likely never turned out that way. If it's a totally independent game from them, I'd be very cautious the success of Demon Souls doesn't blind my judgement.
@sinncross; you do know legend of dragoon is a sega owned IP right? And chubear is right Demon Souls is a great title but the IP was funded by Sony; and as much I hate to say this these guys did make Ninja Blade....
you are really mistaken, sega had nothing to do with that game, especially since Sega still had a system out at the time of the release of Legend of Dragoon. I think you are mistaking it for Panzer Dragoon
and speaking of Legend of Dragoon, maybe its just me, but i thought the game wasn't all that great, it had potential but failed imo. I honestly think those who want a sequel are looking at it thru nostalgia tinted glasses. The game was a 6 at best and im highly doubting we will see a sequel to it, if we would have saw one, i would think it would have been made a long time ago on the ps2
Old news is old. This was announced last month.
@aaronisbla Totally agree about Legend of Dragoon. The game was basically a rip off of Final Fantasy VII even right down to the menus being the exact same color, style and font. Each character is basically a clone from a character from FFVII they are just in a different story line and look different. Personality wise they are exactly the same. Around the time the game was released I remember reading this GIANT article about all the things it ripped off or were way to similar to FFVII and alot of people wondered if perhaps had Square not been so in bed with Sony at the time if Legal action would have been taken against the game. It was a decent game sure but it was because it ripped off so much from a bigger and better game of the time.
I can actually see this playing like Demon's Souls. Aerial and ground combat with custom mechs, big end boss battles.
They shared the same publisher, Atlus. From Software published it in Japan, I think. I want my Demon's Souls DLC first. Those that have played it knows that it exists. This game's trailer starts off the exact same way as Demon's Souls lol. It looks... interesting, but I'd prefer a Demon's Souls 2.
[email protected] Instead of a zombie flying past the screen it's a robot. xD
Land of the Giants? Yes please @ Reibooi: At first i thought that maybe back then i was spoiled by FF7 but i played plenty of other rpgs back then after FF7 came out and had fun with them, but Legend of Dragoon just seemed run of the mill. The only thing different was its addition battle system but to be honest i preferred the combo system of Xenogears and Legend of Legaia over it.
but i doubt it will come to the US as there might be some issues with rights as those animes are licensed by different companies
Especially if you're an old school anime fan They had mechs from Gundam and Robotech! :D I just wish they showed some gameplay footage in this trailer But yeah, still waiting to know what's beyond that last broken archstone... As some speculate, it may lead to the Land of Giants. I really hope the DLC / sequel to DS explores that lore
yeah man, Land of the Giants. I can't believe it hasn't come out yet, it's pretty much a tease. It even sounds the most interesting and most Shadow-of-the-Colossus like. God, I love Demon's Souls so much. It truly is my favorite PS3 Exclusive and it's so underrated compared to other games. @harry Lol yeah, exactly. Large desolate land and instead of a dead carcass on a Demon it's freaking Optimus Prime. @Joysticks It absolutely IS the Land of the Giants. Remember what the Monumental said at the beginning about the Archstones-- One of them was the Land of the Giants. I'm desperately waiting for it.
But this game looks great to. This trailer make transformer look old gen in CGI department and something is telling me that the PS4 will look like this and maybe better in graphycs departtamt and gameplay. PS4 will be mindblowing.
It looks like the lovechild of Transformers and the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. I never really got into the Mech games. Though Demon's Souls was awesome, so will pay more attention to this because of that I guess.
Just want to make sure everyone knows, this is not an original game. Its the 4th installment in the Another Century Episode series, which is based on the Super Robot Wars series. They basically take a lot of Namco Bandai's robot licenses and a few others and make a game about robots fighting eachother. Look up either series on wiki if you want. I can't think of any member of the series to leave Japan, so try not to get your hopes up.
Man this looks like Transformers.....um no thanks. Wasn't a fan of Demon Souls, but 3dot heroes looks awesome.
I loved Demon's Souls, I really did, but what DS really did was make me thirst even more for another King's Field game. I'm almost frothing at the mouth for another one of those wonderfully atmospheric first person RPGs. That said, if another Demon's Souls comes along, I won't exactly be complaining. Before another sequel comes along, I wanna see the DLC; Land of the Giants, dammit!
I hope the regular enemies are at least as big as Flamelurker, if not the Tower Knight. I would think that the bosses in the Land of the Giants would be SotC / GoWIII Cronus huge in scale If From Software goes that direction and succeeds? EPIC And I want to know what happened to other heroes mentioned. Like did they ever tell us what happened to Biorr's Twin Fang partner? The possibilities... :)
Gundam mechas, Robotech Battlecry, Macross, and some from animes like Full Metal Panic... damn, i thought it was going to be like Armored Core 5. Armored Core 5 and DS2 is what im waiting for from From Software.
"It no secret that Foxgod prefers 360 over PS3. I prefer PS3 over 360. You check the posting histories. I wouldn't expect some massive scale Titan-esque, colossus-esque giants. A giant can be anyone 7 feet or taller, especially in the olden days when 6 foot tall people were rare. Just a land of six foot tall people would be an excuse to call it land of the giants. I feel something on par with the Nav'i of Pandora would be enough. Fighting ten foot tall giants would be great and then every once in awhile taking on a tower knight type enemy. The way the engine stuttered in the Dragon King fight would bode pretty badly for Shadow of Colossus and GoW3 Titan type fights.
as much as they resemble Robotech/Macross, they aren't! I'm not a fan of robot/mecha games but hey, they always selling great in Japan.
I thought Super Robot Taisen is owned by someone else... Namco Bandai? Anyway the trailer looks very impressive. I wonder if it's going to be an action game or turn-based strategy.
Was trained by Gouken because at 1:32 he straight Shoryuken's that ship.
actually they are from the macross frontier series.
This is what we are gonna see more of Jap devs sticking PS3 only since 360 is so badly failing in Japan they cannot pull any profit at all in there native country so they won't bother. A big company like S-E with there own shipping companys could afford to do it as they shipped an English version of FF13 to US and Europe however smaller devs like From Software cannot do this as they rely soly on third partys. MS knew this was gonna happen and really tried to avoid this with the push of 360 in Japan by pumping a lot of money into Japanese developers like mistwalker paying for exclusives but it simply wasn't enough this time around. I doubt MS are gonna throw any more money at Japan so we are gonna see a LOT more exclusives for PS3 over the coming years especially from the land of the rising sun.
No no, im positive that the crappier looking ones are from Macross. Now that we can see them in their 3D form they dont look as good or powerful like those mechs we can construct from Armored Core. They look lacking since a lot of them have random energy powers coming out their asses in their animated forms. I was expecting to see Ultraman near the end of the trailer for a good laugh actually. Anyway, looking at this... i doubt there will be any mech customization or anything that will detract away from each individual mechas' power. So i'll probably pass on this game. Gundam mechas are like the Dragonball robots on this one. The M9 and Arbalest are cannonfodder for mechs built like Jehuty. This game is just fan service... bleh.
Many Japanese would go crazy as soon as they see this. I see mech from Full Metal Panic, Gundam, Macross, Armor Core and others that and not familiar with.
Yeah there are a lot of mechs from different series that have nothing to do with each other so I'm a little confused as to what kind of game this is going to be. After seeing the Arbalest I'm really interested in this so I'm hoping it turns out to be a great game and comes to the west.
Mech with the dreads is from the anime, Overman King Gainer. Mech with the long arm is from the anime, Sousei no Aquarion. I'm not sure about this one.
I will probably buy it myself. I am an American who watches anime. A Japanese person of my same demographic is going to have a full-fledged orgasm when he sees this. I recognized... 1. Suzaku - From Code Geass - the one on skates - the Mech is named "Lancelot". 2. Sgt. Sosuke Sagara - From Full Metal Panic - knife in mouth - the Mech is named "Arbalest". 3. At least one Gundam - There are several "Gundam" series. I never followed any "Gundam" show so I don't know the names. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY 4. Sgt. Rick Hunter himself - From Macross / (Robotech in the U.S.) - the airplane that transformed in a mech with the red stripe on its chest. I question whether they can get permission to use all of those characters in one game. If they can, then the game will sell 1 million copies on the day it releases in Japan, and it will sell a few PS3's. It will also sell decent numbers in the U.S., but not 'Japan' numbers.
I doubt any game in this series sold 1m day one, since I also doubt its only going to leave JP as an import, this one certainly wont. @below: Dude, there were three games on the PS2 before this one. If fact this revamp of the 3rd game in the series.
As far as I can tell this is not a series of games yet, but just one game. We know the names of the mechs and their pilots from anime, fairly popular anime at that. In fact, they all had sequels; or at least all the ones I recognized.
@Darrius Cole This game is in fact the 3rd game in a series of games(if i remember correctly it may actually be more) and it has never even come close to selling as much as some are thinking it will. This one may have a slightly better chance seeing as it has characters and mechs from Code Geass and FMP this time around but still doubt it's gonna get anywhere near 1m. Games like this are never good they are made purely for the fans of the shows they have characters from. The game play is ALWAYS sub par and the graphics normally pretty bad(this is a CGI trailer btw). Imagine a Character themed Armored Core game and you are on track for what you can expect.
I spot several mechas that I'm familiar with from playing EVERY Super Robot Taisen on PS2. I see Dunbine, Aquarion, Gundam SEED, Gundam Crossbone, Macross DYRL, etc I see lots of REAL robots, but where are the SUPER robots ? You know...the legendary Mazinger Z and Getter Robo ? Anyway, I hope this game is going to be awesome !! Gotta love region free games on PS3 :)
everyone was talking so much crap about FROM Software. It's funny how one game (demon souls) can make a company from hated to loved. You should see some of the older comments here about how "crappy" their armored core games are. And now ever since demon souls and 3d dot heroes came out, you see so many people saying "my favorite developer" now. That's not an attack on anyone in particular here. Just the hypocritical nature of the "fans"
How hypocritical? If you make average games in the past and then stepped up your game and started making great games, what's hypocritical about people now supporting you if they view you've turned the corner? I however, am not on FROM's bandwagon. They did great with DS with help from Sony and they should be applauded for a great job for sure. 3Dot isn't out yet and I don't know much about it's development since I'm not an RPG gamer but they're going to have to shown some pattern other than two recent games for me to feel comfortable fully supporting them. Ps/ Oh, I understand what you're trying to say now
Hypocritical because these are the SAME people that even said Demon Soul's would suck (before they saw reviews)And then overnight suddenly changed their minds and jumped on the bandwagon. How can ONE game all of a sudden make them "a person's favorite" When almost EVERY game they made before demon souls was getting lambasted? See the thing is YOU obviously have a realistic view. If most of the fans did that gaming would probably be in a better state. You're right, you should see more than ONE game before you can say you have faith in them. But take a look at comments here from around the time demon soul's was first announced with ninja blade. And you'll see EXACTLY what I'm talking about
Yeah, From Software aren't even on any sort of "good developer" list. Demon's Souls was sublime, but that also had heavy SCEJ involvement. Same with 3D Dot Game Heroes, getting good reviews, but that was made by Silicon Studio and was published by From Software in Japan. However, even just this gen, they made Enchanted Arms, Tenchu Z and Ninja Blade.
Judge the people they change their minds from hate to love about FromSoftware. But NOT everyone it is like you said about ''now is my favorite developer''. FromDeveloper have quality and innovation of games, one of those won the GOTY in 2009 (Demons Souls along with Uncharted 2).
Has Fromsoft truly done a turnaround in regards to gameplay and design, or do they need a 3rd party like Sony to hold their hand?
So even with DS being one of the best if not the best game this gen for some. People should still hate FORM software?. How do you know its the same people that hated FORM that are loving them now?. For all we know its new fans from DS that are praising FORM and non fans are just cautious.
The majority of FROM's games are great. Tower of abyss King's Field Armored Core Series Mech Games In general Demon's Souls You kids should just go home and go play COD, Madden, Fifa or something because you guys don't know what you're talking about.
These guys made Tenchu, the ninja game to end all ninja games, so lets not pretend they've never done anything good, they brought me back to gaming with Tenchu. Armoured Core games suck because mech games suck. I don't know how they manage to screw up something like mech games every time, but I love mecha since Robotech, but have never played a decent mech game except for a PSP Gundam that was followed up by a pretty bad PS3 Gundam, where flying made no sense in the game. And how people can like that Kojima mech game is beyond me; For some reason I can't remember the name now, but I really hated that game and it was one of my first gaming disappointments since getting back into gaming. And what the Hell is up with my keyboard; I can hardly write a sentence properly.
You obviously just suck at mech games, or you just don't like the genre. There are plenty of fantastic mech games. Armored Core Chromehounds Zone Of Enders 1/2 (The game(s) you were talking about) I can think of many others too, it just sounds like you don't like the genre or you obviously don't know what you're talking about. What ever, "to each his own" but I'm just saying you probably shouldn't be saying that the games "suck" because you don't like them, Especially since FROM software's biggest selling, most popular franchise being Armored Core also has a bigger fanbase than any of their other great games like King's Field or Demon's Souls. I'm just hoping you don't think transformers was good mech game....
I agree with the Tenchu part but strongly disagree with your comments about the mech genre, especially the part about Zone of the Enders.
Tenchu, Please God, let it be Tenchu. TENCHU.
lol anyone think it looks like the beginning of DS cinematic when the mechs start flying in, its where the red dragon flys in fr DS
Oh my God yes! I thought I was the only one!
yup me too I got a bit excited then mechs bust out lol.
i would love to see the next armoured core game be exclusive for the ps3. i cant wait to see gameplay for this game also.
Hey..You got your Macross in my Gundam Hmmm I dont know what to think of this in all honestly
These are the kind of games that MS needs on the 360 exclusively, in Japan. That would move consoles over there.
I don't know who disagreed with this. If this game were 360 exclusive it would sell some console in Japan. It still wouldn't do as much as it'll do on PS3. It no secret that Foxgod prefers 360 over PS3. I prefer PS3 over 360. You check the posting histories. I have to think that people are disagreeing with him more than they are disagreeing with what he said here.
No exclusive for x360 in Japan will make any difference. That is a well established fact. I believe thats why people are disagreeing with Foxgod.
and snatched it.... xD did it work?...noooo
FF13 on 360 was not sold in Japan. Only on ps3.
demons souls really wouldn't work across Xbox anyways since you gotta pay to play online and DS is a single/multiplayer hybrid that just wouldn't work well over Live by design ... Play B3yond
you did bashing of no kind and your statement has lots of truth to it yet you got lots of dissagrees. its no secret that i prefer ps3 over 360 but even i think its wrong and fanboyish to give you a dissagree... do i keep spelling dissagree wrong... dissagree... disagree... ... ... ...
With out doubt, this is a great time to own a PS3. (although I have felt this way since launch) with that said your statement has some truth... if this was a 360 exclusive it would benefit the 360 sells in Japan slightly..
You've got Infinite Undiscovery and Blue Dragon exclusively on the 360. How'd it work out over in Japan? -End statement
I see Macross, Patlabor, and Gundam Already
so happy to have seen a CGI lancelot ... code geass is my favorite anime of all time..
It is Another Century's Episode R, offical website: http://www.ace-game.jp/ Successor of Another Century's Episode III
This trailer beats every trailer for every game this year and last year it was just awesome.
What a hilarious game.. I doubt this to be a hit anywhere outside of japan which might eventually sell like hotcakes there. Its kinda disappointing from FromSoftware to be making this crap duh. They have been flashing out Triple AAA exclusive titles thus far, please don't let the momentum ends here! I have not heard or seen anything of this game, so I might be wrong about it. But mechanic robots games such as this been failing for years now.
Fromsoftware develops licensed games just like everyone else does. This is a Banpresto series. It's not much different from doing a publisher doing a movie game or a game based on a toyline and outsourcing it to a developer who has a schedule opening.
