CVG: Mafia 2 isn't the "revelation" in sandbox gaming some were expecting, according to the latest issue of Xbox World 360 magazine.
I really can't stand this line of thinking about so many games. Games do not have to be 'revolutionary' or 'innovative' to be good. It is so irritating that so many game reviewers use those terms to define a game. I would MUCH MUCH rather play a game that does things that other games have, and does them well, than play a so called 'innovative' game that is different for the sake of being different.
Well said, Uncharted 2 wasn't a revelation in the action/adventure genre but it was still a great game. There's something to be said for refining something that has already been "a revelation".
Exactly. Who was going around saying how innovative Mafia II was? It looks like a solid sand box game.
rev·e·la·tion /ˌrɛvəˈleɪʃən/ Show Spelled[rev-uh-ley-shuhn] Show IPA –noun 1.the act of revealing or disclosing; disclosure. 2.something revealed or disclosed, esp. a striking disclosure, as of something not before realized. Has anything like Uncharted 2 been realized before or after it was released? You don't have to downplay a totally unrelated game to reassure people of Mafia 2.
BeaArthur wasn't downplaying Uncharted 2. What he meant was that it was not innovative in the sense that it is a typical TPS. With obviously extremely good production values, such as graphics. You act like he said that Uncharted 2 sucked or something. Grow up, not every commenter is trying to start a flame war. Maybe you should go sign up for GameJizz.
If anyone who has played the first Mafia, they will know how Mafia 2 plays out. They put much more focus into their missions within a sandbox world. Its not gonna be so opened up like GTA4 how you can spend time with friends and do a bunch of other little things. The missions and story are the main thing. First Mafia had some great missions, lots of fun chase scenes, on foot and in a car. Its how expect Mafia 2 will be like.
Why is people expecting every single game comes as a "revelation"? thats utterly ridiculous, such games happens once in a while, meanwhile other games just expand the already set concepts. REVELATION type games has sparked genres or sub genres, or made a huge impact on the genre they belong, changing the rules altogether. MAFIA 2 is looking like a nice GTA-like game with a different setting, the same with RDR.
It says something like, 'While not exactly a revelation in sandbox games, Mafia 2 is shaping up to be a worthy addition to the genre and an extremely polished experience' ??? Well? Was I close or was the implication of this title right and their article was driven by the notion that this game was not a revelation. 'Mafia 2 is not a revelation in sandbox. It's just not. Anyone who thinks it's a revelation in sandbox is wrong because it's not. There. Article over.'
Whatever it is or isn't, everything I've seen of it so far looks fantastic.
Thats ok. I'm hoping Red Dead will be my GotY, or at least my Sandbox GotY.
