I was expecting Fist of the North Star to get top spot!

Tricksy3138d ago

its eclectic and varied and thats what makes it great.

I think you look at the Xbox360 fanbase and your first thought is not that it is eclectic and varied. You know this because of the amount of Halos and other FPS's that are sold every year. Whether other games are purchased by Microsofts big wallet to be on the system or not, the fanbase is not varied. So you get big sales for some big FPS and then much smaller sales for other games.

Whereas, a person buys a PS3 because they intend to play a variety of games IMO. And expect that many of these games will be exclusives and therefore well made and entralling. For the PS3, especially now that its fanbase is growing rapidly, many titles will sell a far amount of games. This is great for developers of games on the PS3, they know they can make a game that might be avant garde and expect that it will find a lucrative niche in the PS3 fanbase. This is portrayed best by the Japanese market, but also around the world.

Its unfortunate what Microsoft and Xbox 360 fanbois are doing to the gaming market, hopefully it will end after the 360. Hopefully Microsoft stays out of the console market after this one. 360 Fans should just join the army and get it over with. I dont know why they have to destroy gaming with their one interest and their aggressive natures. The army will give you a gun- YAY- and you can shoot at people...and be shot at -YAY!

Valay3139d ago

Odd that Etrian Odyssey III had a considerable drop like that. Hopefully it'll stay in the top 10.

How The Hell Is Baseball Spirit on 3rd & 4th. :P

Foxgod3139d ago (Edited 3139d ago )

I wonder why ps3 fans still defend the japanese market, their taste in games are horrible.

Fist of the northstar has now been for 2 weeks on the top spot, but they dont even care about GOW3 the slightest bit.

And the modern First of the northstar isnt even good (the anime), the old anime was awesome.

This explains why the 360 does poorly in Japan, Ps3 is riddled with funky japanese titles, while the 360 barely got them.
MS should take notes, instead of investing in RPG;s, they should invest in cheap anime adaptions and funky jap titled games.
Those games got a very low budget, and sell like crack in Japan.

nycredude3139d ago (Edited 3139d ago )

/d1ckpalm hmmm...

Nothing on the 360 will sell like crack cause there is barely any 360s in Japan! Sony is a Japanese company and Ps3 will always sell better in Japan just like 360 will always sell better in America!

Also you can make the argument that America has some "quirky" taste in games also. Take Yakuza 3 for example. That series is better than many games out now and yet no one in US even care to try it.

Arkham3139d ago

Foxgod, it's a good idea to avoid using the term "jap" whenever possible, regardless of your intentions.

silvacrest3139d ago

your argument is just wrong, good RPGs sell well in japan, just not xbox 360 versions, tales of vesperia is the ultimate comparison, i hope i dont have to remind you of the numbers from both consoles and the difference in release dates

also, im sure theres some Japanese guy wondering 'why americans love shooters so much', cultural differences is my guess, with guns being legal to own and Japanese culture in general its no wonder why certain games sell better

it doesn't matter what games microsoft gets for the 360 in japan, they simply dont want it

Montrealien3139d ago (Edited 3139d ago )

( i hope i dont have to remind you of the numbers from both consoles and the difference in release dates )

sure, why not, and lets look at it this way.

5 Million Ps3s sold in Japan
1.2 Million 360s sold in Japan

350k Ps3 Tales of Vesperia sold
140k 360 Tales of Vesperia sold

now the fun

10% of Japanese 360 owners bought Tales of Vesperia.
7% of Japanese Ps3 owners boughts Tales of Vesperia.

I agree with Fox God, always refering to the Japanese market is getting old. Our two markets could not be any more different. the fact that the 360 is actually still selling in such a closed gaming market deserves some sort of praise, but the Japanese will never adpot a MS console, or an american console for that matter as there first choice, and you know what, I will never lose sleep over that. I care very little for the japanese market.

What matters to me is that all my beloved consoles get great games in NA and continued support. Just comparing the sheer numbers from the NA market with the japanese ones tells me that sony, nintendo and MS will continu to have a vested interest in the NA market. I agree that the NA market is not the world, but neither is Japan.

gaffyh3139d ago (Edited 3139d ago )

@Fox - The Japanese market matters a lot because some of the best developers are from Japan. If the games consistently sell more on PS3 then the developers will eventually stop making 360 games altogether an focus on PS3 only.

@Montrealien - Games that come out a year later on any system usually sell less, e.g. Bioshock. Expecting it to sell more in terms of ratio, let alone actual sales figure is ridiculous because it has already been out for a year and the hype has died down. In fact, if it does sell more, it really show how much the fanbase on the other console actually wanted the game.

Montrealien3139d ago

and that will effect the rest of the gaming world how? The gaming world does not revolve around Japan anymore, true story. Its pretty obvious that if the 360 keeps on performing like it does in japan it will loss support from japanese devs, and the world will still keep on turning, just another failed american console in japan. No big deal.

Montrealien3139d ago (Edited 3139d ago )

I think Tales of vesperia would of sold just as much even if they launched on the same day, but this we will never know. And the ratio comparison is not ridiculous it shows that as much of the 360 fanbase wanted a game like tales as the PS3 fanbase did. And that is an important stat imho.

gaffyh3139d ago (Edited 3139d ago )

@Montrealien - If the devs don't make the game because it doesn't sell in Japan, then it doesn't get ported anywhere else. Imagine if all Capcom, Namco, Level-5, Square Enix, Sega games sell crappy on 360 in Japan (specifically talking about Japanese style games that are good), then they don't come to the West at all, and eventually they'll just cut out the 360 altogether, and these are some of the best games e.g. Yakuza 3, which is awesome.

If there were only western developers on 360, I'd probably never have even bought a 360, as my favourite game is Lost Odyssey. Variety is what makes PS3 the best console imo, as I have games for my nephew, family and more mature games. This has always been the nature of PlayStation and is why I'll always be a PS fan, because it seems like Xbox owners want shooter after shooter after shooter. It get's boring after a while.

@second reply - What you "think" and what actually would have happened would have been completely different. Yakuza isn't even a huge franchise and it sold 500k, WKC is a new RPG and it sold 350k, so I think a more established and highly anticipated franchise like tales would have sold A LOT more.

Montrealien3139d ago (Edited 3139d ago )

Well, the shooter thing seems to get boring for you, and how can I argue with that, that`s your opinion, and I respect it, but if you dig deeper, the variety is there. Just in the last few months games like Bloodbowl, Divinity, Risen, supreme commander 2 shows that their is variety, or at least signs that they try, and that is not counting the live games. And thats not to say that the PS3 does not have variety, both consoles have great games on them.

as for imagining a world without all the japanese devs you named, well, I think you missed my point. Just because the Xbox fails in Japan, it does not mean japanese devs would stop trying to sell games in one of the biggest gaming markets in the world, that would be stupid.

gaffy said..

(What you "think" and what actually would have happened would have been completely different)

thats what I said, we will never know, not you, not me, I just think it would of sold as many units on both consoles. the last Ps2 Tales game in japan sold 500k+, that was on the PS2, in 2006.

The Maxx3139d ago (Edited 3139d ago )

"Variety is what makes PS3 the best console imo, as I have games for my nephew, family and more mature games."

- Again more BS comments made by delusional Sony fanboys. The 360 has MORE games in EVERY genre across the board. The 360 has MORE Variety in it's library than the PS3. This is FACT! If you actually stand by your comment, then it would be the 360 that you are a fan of, not the PS3.

"Just because the Xbox fails in Japan, it does not mean japanese devs would stop trying to sell games in one of the biggest gaming markets in the world, that would be stupid."

You are absolutely right. Of course Japanese developers will not ignore the #1 gaming demographics in the WORLD. North America.

ClownBelt3139d ago

If you meant this kind of variety then yes.

Pekka3139d ago

Japanese just have different taste but it doesn't mean your taste is any better. There is no "bad" or "good" taste, they are just different opinions.

I'm a PS3 owner and I have no interest in buying GOW3. I played demo but I hated it. To me, GOW3 is just another mindless button-smasher with bad plot. And I hate button-smashers. Sure, it has great graphics but that doesn't mean anything to me. I play games for fun and if the game isn't fun, then it isn't good. Still, I don't think I have a bad taste, I just don't like about GOW3 or any game like it.

dude_meister3138d ago

You are delusional, more games =/= more variety. I can name several titles on PS3 where there is nothing even similar to them on 360 e.g. LittleBigPlanet, Folklore, Lair (I know it sucks), Eyepet, Valkyria Chronicles, Demon's Souls, Heavy Rain, MGS4, Yakuza 3, Heavenly Sword. NOTHING like them on 360.

Then there are games that are so far the best looking (and some the best playing) games in their genres e.g. KZ2, Uncharted 2, Infamous, Ratchet etc.

You are an idiot if you think the 360 has more variety, and even now, all the upcoming games for PS3 STILL have more variety e.g. ModNation Racers, The Last Guardian, The Agency and much much more have no equivalent on 360. And that's not even counting any PSN titles, if you add those into the mix, you'll see even more unique titles, whereas the 360 seems to have given up on that area, with fewer and fewer big titles each year for XBLA.

The Maxx3138d ago (Edited 3138d ago )

You need to re-read my comment. Here is my quote.

"The 360 has MORE games in EVERY genre across the board."

So your comment:

"LittleBigPlanet, Folklore, Lair (I know it sucks), Eyepet, Valkyria Chronicles, Demon's Souls, Heavy Rain, MGS4, Yakuza 3, Heavenly Sword. NOTHING like them on 360."

Means nothing. Those ARE GAMES which go under a certain CATEGORY. That is your opinion that there is nothing like them. Folklore is just an RPG. Lair is just a flight game on a dragon. LBP is a platformer. EoJ...well I will give you that one, I have it and love it. Heavy Rain is an adventure/horror game with nothing but QTE's. I could counter with Alone in the Dark or up and coming Alan Wake. Yakuza 3 is just another sandbox game like GTA. Heavenly Sword is just a hack n slash game like Dante's inferno or DMC or Mass Effect.

I could say the PS3 has nothing like Banjo Kazooie, or Viva Pinata or Forza 3 etc or Gears of War or Halo 3 or Lost Odyssey. Games that share the same CATEGORY/GENRE doesn't mean they are the same game, but the argument can be made with every exclusive saying that there is nothing like it on the other platform. Well DUH, since then it would be called a muliplat game. Halo 3 and Killzone 2 are both completely different, yet they are still shooters. Folklore and Lost Odyssey are completely different but they are still RPG's.

You saying that the 360 has "NOTHING" like them is complete delusion. It is you that can't seem to see things for what they are.
