Gamespot: Great storytelling makes the short campaign entertaining, but it's in the fun co-op modes that this stealth/action hybrid truly shines.
I need this and Arkham asylum.
Can't wait to rent this game and yes, AA2 is looking good too!
i can't imagine why there are so many mod deleted comments, butt hurt people from both sides of the field i guess still, i agree Natrsu Batman AA is still one of the games I CAN play and haven't =( i still need to check that out
My comment was deleted, all I said was that this place is starting to get really annoying with all the juvenile comments, flame-baiting, flaming, spoilers, blah blah blah. I guess I was deleted for being off-topic? I dunno. It's a shame, though. I look forward to playing Splinter Cell tomorrow when it arrives from GameFly, but I already know all of the plot twists because of the spoilers let loose around here (they really went all-out with this one, having spoilers not only in the comments, but also in the titles of "alternate sources" that they submitted to lots of the Splinter Cell articles). It should still be enjoyable though. And at the "maybe not AAA" comments, look... AAA has nothing to do with review scores. It's more or less a budget thing. This game is AAA, no question about it. Years in development, millions of dollars invested, tons of television advertisement. That's AAA. Doesn't matter if it gets less-than-9 review scores. Just like some games can get over-9 review scores, and it doesn't make it AAA, because it's a smaller game without the advertising budget and the public appeal. Like Braid, for example.
Jesus Christ! What happened in the comments above me?
most people were just saying how dogystyle trying to leave spoilers was stupid
LOL...wtf just happened above???
I can live with that. Like I said, this game will end up around 88-91 so it is expected that 80s scores will be coming in. Just got back from Gamepost Midnight launch and can't wait to play this game tomorrow. Good nite everyone and happy gaming.
if u went to a midnight luanch play it wen u get back! lol don't c the point in a midnight launch if ur gonna go home and go 2 bed lol
Butt hurt, reassurance fail
Fair score for a 5-hours long game with sub-par graphics. Guys Keep in mind that Ubisoft have been working on this project for 5 years so believe it could have definitely been better.
i've only played a few levels so far, but it's really weird how rushed it feels for a game that was in the oven for so long. even compared to the e3 demo, there's stuff it didn't follow through on. maybe i'm not far enough in, but none of the levels feel like a 'mini-sandbox' like they claimed last year after they re-revealed. the mechanics don't gel that well for me, and there's something about the controls that just feels off. the plot feels like an episode of 24 on crack, and the awkward flashback tutorial for mark and execute had me laughing at sam's relationship with his daughter instead of binding me to it. but i'm only a few levels in, i'm trying really hard to reserve my judgment for when i finish. i'm hoping it gets better from here and this is just a bad first impression. but it feels.. kind of sloppy right now.
@ mistajeff you know what, I don't know if it's fair for me to say this, but I felt exactly the same.. but I got that feeling just from playing the demo. Everyone else loves it, so I guess I should shut up because I am just being a hater. Truth be told though, I am a huge SC fan, but everything you pointed is pretty much how I felt from the demo. I said it in another comment about the game when people kept going on about the not carrying bodies anymore crap, and I said it there, for me the issues is a more then just not carrying bodies . anyway, when you finish it I would really love to hear what you overall thoughts are on it. Just PM me with your honest opinion.
The game was only in the "oven" for about 2 years. They scrapped the first development cycle, and started over around mid 2008.
OH OK ITS AN 360 EXCLUSIVE SEEMS ABOUT RIGHT..MAYBE 1 POINT OR 2 TOO HIGH
exactly the score I have said based upon the demo.... with AW and RDR coming out...this was a non buy for me anyway AND just got to show you how IGN has hit rock bottom with their last few reviews...namely FF and now SC...
Finally an honest review
YOU KNOW IF A GAME SITE DOES NOT HAVE AN "X" IN ITS NAME THAN IT WILL PROBALLY BE LESS THAN A 9
it was obvious some would like the changes and some would not.
gameapot is A FAIL SITE this game is amazing
" * Brief campaign doesn't offer much challenge * Interrogations are a missed opportunity * Stealth options are stripped down compared to previous games. " And despite those points it still scores really high.
my sources told me that ubisoft had to gimp down this game because 360 is not allowing them to incorporate big ideas into fruition. as you can see, gamespot noticed this hence they gave it a poor review.
Still waiting for Gametrailers to run out a 9.4 score. Bias they are.
i have always loved splinter cell (chaos theory being the best) series. there are many mp games out. even with mgs4 cinematics, mgs4 has more gameplay time. if i rent sp:c and like it, it is a buy.
Conviction looks surprisingly dated but nonetheless attractive, a likely consequence of the older Unreal 2 technology that brings it to life. Fuzzy textures, some blocky geometry, and plenty of jagged edges betray the engine's age, yet you get the sense that developer Ubisoft Montreal squeezed a good deal out of it. Smart use of color versus the deepness of the black-and-white stealth effects makes certain environments, such as a carnival outside the Washington Monument, really stand out. It's best not to look too closely at the grainy textures when traversing war-torn streets, but the abandoned vehicles strewn about and a decrepit-looking fuel station make the dusty level feel uncomfortably--and appropriately--hostile. Sam looks good, if somewhat blurry (you could say the same about the rest of the game); he's got the expression of a man who has taken his punches. He quickly slides from one cover spot to another, and slick animations make his moves look authentic and feel satisfying. Your standard enemies, on the other hand, don't move so smoothly, and models are frequently reused, so expect to see a few familiar faces as you skulk through hallways and peek through windows. The most disappointing aspect of the presentation, however, is that the cinematics are overly compressed and suffer from distracting dips in the frame rate when the camera pans across the environment.
Gamespot has been pretty accurate on scoring so far. The short SP is a bummer, but overall it seems to be a great game. I know for sure i'm going to give it a try.
Lol at all the deleted comments above. The short campaign does put me off wanting to buy and own the game, I'm going to rent it first and if I really love it and purchase.
usually i agree with gamespot within a .5 margin chance of error.IMO its a 8.5
whats with all the deleted posts? spoilers? little kids running their mouths?
just kids running their mouths.
One of mine was deleted but I don't mind, I took the bait by one of the posters, I will not say who because I am happy that the mods are putting their foot down, it's getting out of hand. Good job mods.
it seems to me the site is no longer serving its intended purpose of video game discussion. the article process works good but if we want a legit discussion about the games, it can be found elsewhere.
LOL OUCH. 8 out of 10.....not bad for a multiplat game. But I'm assuming the bots were expecting more out of a pseudo-multiplat game.
SSC gameplay+FMVs = 5 hrs at least mgs4 gameplay alone was about 6 hrs
Its just a review. MAG got an 8/10 from gamespot and that game was awesome.
Its a lot better then Double Agent.
