Javan from gamesonsmash talk about the wii and if it can last for this whole gen
Survive? It's already won this generation, Sony and Microsoft are competing for second place.
last for this whole gen? i don't really understand that exactly its not like generations all have a preset amounts of time like say the wii lasts 6-7 years the 360 7-8 the ps3 9-10 when exactly does the gen end?
It all has become so trivial. It's like each console has their own generation. If Nintendo releases a new console first, is that the start of a new gen? I mean the PS2 is still selling, but it's considered last-gen. Does last gen end when Sony says? or what
ya i believe when all consoles of a certain gen has ended then that gen dies. So Ps2 is still last gen but its still selling and obviously has and still is overkilling competition. So if wii made a new console this gen would still continue until the last console runs out of steam. Although of course wii would have a headstart on next gen.
Survive? The wii proved that the gamecube could survive.... bad article is bad article.
"Survive? It's already won this generation, Sony and Microsoft are competing for second place". With last Gen tech.
My older sister lives in TX and said she couldnt even find an extra wii mote in stores there so she ordered one online. When the ps3 or 360 start selling the same as the wii consistently, they still wont be close. Edit- The good thing about this gen. is that the 2nd and 3rd place consoles are already doing better than the 2nd and 3rd from last gen.
How many "Wii is doomed" stories will they make!?!!?
Huh? This is actually the first time I've read of a "Wii is doomed" article. Most of the time it's always "PS3 is doomed" or "Sony is doomed"
I would assume that with your bubble count, you have been on n4g long enough to have seen the articles....or perhaps you overlooked their clever disguise...they are usually articles about the Wii being a gimmick and a fad.
People spout doom and gloom for the Wii all the time, in articles and comment sections. They're being quite stupid, just like the 'PS360/Sony/Microsoft/Apple/Ni ntendo is doomed!' people, and are honestly more trolling than posting something relevant. Dooming people are stupid. EDIT: This is aimed toward Clownbelt, the freakin' reply function screwed up again. >.>
Make the thing HD and it'll extend it's life a bit.
So Wii is in life support right now? Lmao Got ya.
Can you point out for me where I said that in my post? Thanks. Simply put adding the ability to make it HD would extend it's longevity in an HD era. Go troll somewhere else.
Clownbelt, you completly misunderstood there. Murderdolls said that making it HD would extend it's life, not save it's life. So if the Wii was destined to last 5 years, maybe adding HD might make it last 7 years instead.
Well if current trends continue and it persists with it's steady decline in sales, in a mere year or two it will be selling on par with the PS3/360 (you know, figures many use to brag about). Anyway with it's frankly incredible install base and producing profit per unit the others can currently only dream about there is no reason for it to "die" or lose support on a software front.
Record breaking 3.8m sold just last Dec. in NA alone. Nintendo will win this holiday as well. The Wii will near 100 million by mid 2011 easy. They don't have ANYTHING to worry about in the next year. Maybe 4 years from now, PS3 could be on track to outsell it (if it's off the market) but the Wii has won for Nintendo.
You just made me realize something... the PS1 hit 100 million worldwide consoles shipped in 9 years. The PS2 did it in 5. By your estimates the PS3 will do it in 9 years. I guess it is safe to say that the PS3 is not as huge a success as the PS2 was. I do agree however, the Wii has won this gen, by a long shot. 6 years ago people where saying that Nintendo was dead...oh how things have changed.
It already has
I dont care about Wii simple as that
Then why is you here mister dont care about.
it has survived. but will their next console survive?
Of course, this is a ridiculous article. The Wii has an exclusive demographic that the PS3 and 360 can't access. Yeah Natal and Move are coming but anyone who cares has a Wii already.
I couldn't agree more, @BeaArthur. Although its the least hardware-developed console for this generation, it already has the heart of the japanese places, and many american houses (and brazilian, since I live in São Paulo) own a Wii because of its family gaming appeal. However, I don't consider the Wii a competition do Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. I mean...they are completely different markets: I don't see myself playing addictively on Wii as I do on PS3/Xbox 360, but my girlfriend manages to pull it off with ease. To me, we're talking about two different market approaches. If asked who's gonna win by sheer number, however, I'd have to say: Wii owned everyone already.
We agree 100% on this one. Everyone wants to dump on the Wii (and I take a few shots every once in awhile) about their lack of technology and crap but Nintendo wasn't trying to compete with the 360 and the PS3. They have found a market that consoles have yet to access and I'm sure they are happy to stay right where they are at.
" However, I don't consider the Wii a competition do Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. I mean...they are completely different markets: I don't see myself playing addictively on Wii as I do on PS3/Xbox 360, but my girlfriend manages to pull it off with ease. " This doesn't mean sh/t. Just because you dont see yourself play "addictively" on the Wii, that doesn't mean all "avid" gamers wouldn't. Wii's audience is actually really Diverse. Whether you think its in competition or not, fact is it is. The only difference in the PS360 and Wii is that 2 try to function as multimedia devices, while the other is mainly focussed on games( with some small non-gaming-apps). All 3 have Games as their priority. MS and Sony are now trying to get the same audience, how are they not competing? Fact is, this "market" you speak of consists out of everyone. The software however is aimed to trigger a target audience.
The wii has pretty much already won. Sony and Microsoft don't want to end up in last place. Most people who like motion controls have a wii already, and it has a bigger library, I'm not one to say move or natal will fail, but I think they may end up another eyetoy, I think it could go either way myself depending on marketing and such.
I think the best question would be "How the next Nintendo console would fare?" - since Microsoft and Sony started to pick up big chunks of the world market but probably won't make it in time to overcome Nintendo's tiny little white monster. I think the real console wars are bound to start at next generation...
lol what do you think idiot.
I love my wii got black wii couple weeks normally use dolphin but more convinent having my own wii. to fair i love each console this genration hated the orignal xbox last gen loved the ps2 and didnt really play on the gc but this gen just been so diffrent all consoles have had so many exclusive last gen microsoft gave up to quick and nintendo did not even seem to try sony was just at the top with all the amazing exlcusives. i dont think you can say any console winning just witch one has more value and how long there likey to last they all have the great games.
wii has already won
I wish these sites come back to reality and realize the Wii is here to stay and continue to sell. No matter how many "Wii is doomed" and "Can the Wii last" articles they write.
approved this article the answer is too obvious... The wii won. go speculate about the rumoured successor to the wii that would have been moar interesting.
Kinda feel happy for Nintendo for delivering a profitable product after consecutive declines in market share. It's a kiddy console and it has no games I like so I'm not buying it. Whatever, I don't know what I'm talking about.
Last time I checked both the PS3 and 360 had graphics hardware that were comparable to nVidia's 7900 series cards... Yes, you would be correct, nobody remembers that series of cards anymore...
this is a joke, right?
Can the wii survive? It's destroying the competition, i think Nintendo & the wii are doing just fine. It's nintendo's next console that will show if the wii has really made a lasting impact with new gamers.
pointless provocative article. Its all doom and gloom with the wii in gaming journalism, even despite its runaway success. Gaming journalist must be the most pessimistic people in the world, i really think they would be better off becoming Jehovah's witnesses and going from door to door warning people of the imminent destruction of the universe!
