MORTAL KOMBAT!! Good times with that game, I remember how polarized the classrooms, arcades, stores, etc were between Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter fans.

... but after that, it went downhill really REALLY fast.

My personal top 5 would probably be

- Soul Calibur (DC)
- Dead or Alive 3/4
- Street Fighter Alpha 3 (huge roster, great style/design)
- Street Fighter 4
- Marvel vs Capcom 2 (DC)

Also, Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm seems like great fun, and 'true' 3d fighting based on fun and reflexes, based on the demo.

You should try UMK3, that one is pretty good. The series did start to decline until 4/Gold or so, Deception forward wasn't that bad.

They accidently put Street Fighter 3 instead of Killer Instinct - a game way ahead of its time.

Great list, Soul Calibur is probably still my favorite of the four. Everyone should definitely play 3rd Strike. I would add in some other games like Garou mark of the wolves, old school samurai showdown, and some good old Virtua Fighter. I would also add in X-men: Children of the Atom for the Saturn. That game was amazing and it started the whole "vs" style of fighting games first.
My personal top 5 would be
3rd Strike
Virtua Fighter 5
Soul Calibur
Marvel vs. Capcom 2(dreamcast)
Super Street Fighter 4( Gonna be one of the best, I can feel it!)

did I love samurai showdown and children of the atom. Once you got to play as akuma that game got even more replay value. The akuma code was so hard to do though, lol those were the early days.

No tekken or vs games on the list. No DOA either or battle arena toshinden either, or virtua fighter. Virtua fighter started the whole 3d fighter thing.

I do wish we could get a SF3 3rd strike hd remake. The sprites look terrible on a 40 inch from the anniversary edition.

One last note guilty gear x was awesome too.

.... and so did all of you...

Def Jam: Fight for New York! Great single-player, awesome moves, fantastic roster, and a brilliant multiplayer game, with up to 4 people!

Can't believe it slipped my mind. I really hope that one day that game gets a true worthy sequel, or a HD-remake.

Am I the only one who thought Soulcalibur 2 was superior to the first one? Lol, think I am, actually...
