Grand Theft Auto used to turn children against crime

Schools are also employing images from The Itchy & Scratchy Show – the ultra-violent cartoon featured in The Simpsons – and Bugs Bunny to contrast screen violence with real-life.

The charity behind the project said it was intended to stop children becoming "desensitised" to violence and to teach them about the realities of carrying guns or knives.

A parents' group said the use of the 18-rated Grant Theft Auto series – which has been criticised in the past for glamourising murder, violence and car crime – was "inappropriate" as many families intentionally shielded children from graphic images.
