Konami has confirmed to Gamer.nl that there's a new Silent Hill game in the making. Aside from a short teaser/trailer and the fact that it's not developed by Silent Hill: Homecoming developer Double Helix, little is known about the new title.
please be good.... I wish KOJIMA to get his hands on this game. Bring back old and amazing Silent Hill 2 style.
I really wish they would remake the first game from the ground up. Not messing with the formula or anything, just completely remake the game identically the way it was.
I really hope this game is so terrifying I crap my pants. Not literally of course but......ok, I want it to make me [email protected]$% myself. Do the right thing Konami and just make a Silent Hill 2 esque sequel with amazing graphics, that will be all.
I personally would want the original team silent to come back together for this one. I'd think that would be the only way to truly make a worthy sequel. Sadly, I don't even think that's going to be possible, considering that Akira Yamaoka left the building and some of the key members jumped ship from Konami to SCEJ to make Siren. Glad that double helix isn't working on this one at least. Homecoming was weak when compared to previous titles. Edit* I also wouldn't mind Climax coming back, Shattered Memories wasn't great, but the ending definitely made it redeemable. I really loved the ending in that game. But I still stick with wanting Team Silent for the job. Honestly all of the Silent Hill games that weren't developed by the original team, felt like they had something missing. Like something was a bit off. It's like a tribute band doing a cover of your favorite artist. Their work may be commendable, but it will never quite live up to the original.
I have to agree. Part 2 was freakin awesome.
there is no horror game that REALLY makes you pis$ your pants in this gen and thought that next gen graphics gonna makes horror games more scarier
One thing that really concerns me is that Akira Yamaoka left Konami last year, and signed with a different studio this year. His music in the series has always been a big part of the experience.
Silent hill 2 was definitely haunting. I had a teacher in highschool who was once a part-time nurse and she would tell us stories of how the hospital was haunted. She was working a late shift one night and came across a patient wandering the halls. When she tried to approach him, he turned the corner and as she peered around, he had vanished. I was creeped out by the story itself, but actually experiencing it, I always wondered how that would have felt. That feeling of disbelief. And when I played silent hill 2, the elevator scene with maria and the pyramid head... my god, she died and then she came back to life. In the beginning of the game she seems like a normal person with a strange aura to her. But by the end of the game, I was like, "Who the fuk is this person!" I was really freaked out, she was dead in one scene and then she came back as if nothing had happened. That's what I love about silent hill 2, It took that feeling of supernatural, disbelief and translated the emotion of experiencing it so perfectly.
Someone hasn't played Dead Space...
The Franchise was Great Before SH4 and that game was done by Team Silent, so I'll love to see an Awesome SH like SH1 or 2, but I just lost faith in the series the same way I lost faith in Resident Evil series...
Seems someone hasn't really played horror games. Dead Space was not a horror game. It had thrill frights and a good spooky edge but it was not horror at all. More like The Thing, RE4&5 or Extermination which can have you on edge sure, but they aren't really horror. Play games like Fatal Frame, Siren, Silent Hill 1&2 (even the old resident evil games) and you'll get a sense of what horror genre is about.
when will people stop calling "next-gen" to "this gen"... lol
...Siren: Blood Curse and that game is amazing. So move along nothing to see here...
And please let this one be more like the first 2 (or 3) and not like the last 2!
Hmmm, that's funny. I seem to recall playing every last game you mentioned. Yeah, those are horror, but Dead Space is as well. How could you consider it anything but horror? That there just blows my mind. Thriller? Um... no. Dead Space isn't even close to a thriller. Heavy Rain is a thriller. Do you see the difference there? If not, you need to study up on the last century's worth of cinema. I'm guessing you're new to horror yourself, being as you listed some of the most well known franchises that have become staples of the genre. If you were a horror fan, you probably would have listed Eternal Darkness as well. Dino Crisis? I mean, come on here. There is much more to horror here than your list entails. Even lesser games like Echo Night Beyond, a game where you don't even get to fight, provide more scares than your old school CHEESY Resident Evil, no offense. I know horror. There is more to horror than games with atmospheric and highly stylized settings full of Japanese aesthetics. Try some. They may not all be the best and brightest, but I'm sure you'll get plenty of enjoyment out of them. Also, don't bother mentioning Silent Hill 1 and 2 if you're not going to mention 3. 3 was just as good as the original, not as good as 2, but still, a hallmark nonetheless. That right there tells me you only play the popular ones. I'm not even going to waste my breath.
Umm...ok... so what was the last one they made? I just hope this one lives up to expectations. Man these mediocre games makes me want to hook up the ps2 for some "real" games.
Great news! I really enjoyed the last one.
Even the critics agreed on that. Easily the worst of the bunch. Story was cookie-cutter and predictable, graphics were barely passable, there was none of the canon 'eerie stillness and mood'. The voice-acting was particularly awful too. Serious question, but have you played 1 & 3? Those two were brilliant. Especially how they intertwined. And both succeeded in freaking me out on SIGNIFICANTLY less powerful consoles. Aside from the first 30 mins of Dead Space (before it becomes Resident Evil in Space), I haven't been genuinely creeped this gen. (The disagrees aren't from me, btw - I don't roll that way :P) Edit: You should check out 1 and 3 (2 is very good, as well). The ambiance and script are superb, even by today's standards. Really terrific games. In comparison, to long-standing fans of the series (like me), Homecoming was an incredible disappointment.
I never properly played a Silent Hill game other than Homecoming. I tried Silent Hill 1 and 2 when I was younger but I didn't have it in me to play through them. Growing up I was more into Resident Evil and I never really gave this series a chance. Homecoming wasn't the best game ever but it was a very solid rental and I'm glad I played it. Apparently most people are burned on this series but personally I want to see more. Based on the comments and disagrees in this thread I guess I'm the only one that enjoyed Homecoming. Regardless I'm still excited to see a new one.
SH1 > SH2 > SH3 >> SH4 >>> SHO >>> SH:HC Team Silent did an Amaing Job with the First Three Games, The Room wasn't that good and after that everything went downhill...
It's ok, I liked it too. Sadly no one else did.
I enjoyed Homecoming too. Not a great game, but glad I played it. I was on an Alaskan cruise last year and I would sit on my balcony late at night where only the wind (with that whistle sound to it) and the sound of the ocean in the background while I played Homecoming on my PSP. That environment really added to the mood of the game.
That was on the PSP and it was pretty good. Homecomming was an abortion.
Why is the heading calling it next-gen, surly it must be this-gen by now. I my mind next-gen is PS4/xbox 720 etc. Should just be 'Konami confirms new Silent Hill game'
its good the way it is, for the obvious reason that sient hill is mainly a last gen console favorite franchise, It only builds on the promise by saying "Next Gen", Besides with all the great games coming for both consoles, I still say next gen, Amazing loot of games coming down the pipeline!
everyone still says next generation like it just came out this yearw... but we are pretty well into this generation... so yea "this generation"
The 360 and ps3 are next gen until you buy them. They should indeed stop the silly next gen argument.
No. Just no. EDIT: I'm all for a new SH game, but using the PS Eye and the Move is, honestly, ridiculous.
Why not have the option? Not having the option seems more ignorant to me.
Talk about a franchise that has been milked.
Do it yourself and don't let some American dev handle it and it could be great.
You'd think they were owned by Activision or something, they bang out a new Silent Hill every year it seems. It's been a dead series for me since the second one. Despite the original being one of my favorite games of all time, that series needs to "officially" die. It's kinda like how you still hear new Tupac and Biggie tracks all the time, but you know they've been dead for a while.
yeh but if it on the flop60 then you know it not gonna be next-gen LOL!! so dont lie to us konami!!
i gave bubble 2 article ago. GG!
a next gen silent hill game? arn't they jumping the gun abit as the "next gen" consoles have not been announced yet.
Yeah "next gen" always sounds exciting and sophisticated; ...to idiots, but shhhhhhh.....
Another won't hurt. :D
The last game wasn't the most terrifying but it was miles better than origins though, however, I hope this new game explores a whole new dimension of fear while the keeping the essence of the original titles alive.
I personally think that Team Silent is the only devs who could revive this franchise and i cant see them getting back together.. and i feel as if they werent given enough time with Silent Hill 4, the game was basically a spin off was released a year after number 3 and was obviously under developed.. and i wouldnt be suprised if Konami put them under a lot of pressure and thats why they split when it flopped.. i just wish there was more horror games beceause of late all weve been seeing is uninspired shooters which are aimed at the casual auidence and i think developers should take more risks even if it doesnt always pay off..
there is a fatal bug at the room with 3 masks, if u play with the mask placement the wrong way, it disappear from your inventory. i couldn't even finish the game, bc i only had one save. and I saved once AFTER that bug hit. It's stupid.
Wow really? I'm glad I didn't experience that as that sounds extremely frustrating.
i have enjoyed Silent titles in the past, first one being most memorable and creepy but the last one just wasn't up to the task.. i am still quite piss about it. I need to sell that game
Is it me but do the graphics of Resident Evil 3.5 fog version look incredibly like CGI graphics? It looks so good and it was running on the GameCube. I was checking it out on YT and it looks really really good, It even outshines every 360 exclusive game to date. EDIT: check it out http://www.youtube.com/watc... The graphics just took me by surprise because it looks really really good. For those of you that don't know Resident Evil 3.5 aka fog version was a beta build or an early build of Resident Evil 4, the funny thing is, is that it actually looks 10x's better than the actual game that got released.
Hopefully this will be a konami japan title. The sh}tty us made games didnt feel like silent hill at all.
Lots of great news today. Gears of War 3 announced via Xbox 360 dashboard, Crysis 2 Reveal Trailer released and now this. If they announce another big thing today my head is going to explode.
Yea, and good friday was supposed to be last week! Jesus, that was bad. Don't hold my bubbles accountable for that horrible joke.
a complete remake of the original on the psx would be damn awesome!! or something more like silent hill 3!
who the dev?
meh who gives a crap, the guy who composes silent hill music wont be back, team silent needs to get this series back to revive it, and also if its team america or what ever studio in america will destroy this one
A classic Silent Hill made by Team Silent would be awesome.
I thought it was a general consensus that 1 and especially 2 were the best silent hills, with 3 marking the downfall into mediocrity? Was 3 the first game some people played? I don't remember much of it, and honestly don't think I even cared to finish it. Felt like a major letdown from 2. Although, the scariest part was when I heard this wierd trickling sound from what I thought was my surround sound, only to turn my head and see, to my horror, that the sound was from a drunk friend of mine pissing on my bed. True horror right there.
Silent Hill 3 is the funniest game I've ever played. I'm not gonna ruin the surprise, but there's a mind blowing scene involving a still-living fetus near the end. Youtube it if you're feeling adventurous.
Yea. So just watched the fetus bit. Best part was hearing the narrator playing say, "Oh, you don't eat the god fetus." Looking back, these games remind me a lot of what I've seen from Deadly Premonition.
I am one of the biggest Silent Hill fans in the world. I hope its gonna be better then Homecoming.
never completly played out any silent hill in the series. I will make this one my first. (not hatin on the series just too young to play them back then i guess).
But failed to capture the imagination and universe that is Silent Hill. If anything the horror is less about "jump-scares" and more of "dread". Re-play SH1 for references. HUGE references. Thank you. -End statement
next gen.....so this isn't coming out now? Whatever as long as it isn't like that sh*t that some American company made with NO COMBAT it's all good as nothing can be any worse. "when will people stop calling "next-gen" to "this gen"... lol" they can't they are too fu**ing retarded, and because of that most of these idiots on sites like this do the same sh*t.
Silent Hill never disappointed me. Next Gen or not. I thought I wasn't going to like Shattered Memories but playing the game proved me wrong. It was beyond what I expected, and boy what a great game experience.
