Konami confirms new next-gen Silent Hill game

Konami has confirmed to that there's a new Silent Hill game in the making. Aside from a short teaser/trailer and the fact that it's not developed by Silent Hill: Homecoming developer Double Helix, little is known about the new title.

The story is too old to be commented.

please be good....

I wish KOJIMA to get his hands on this game.

Bring back old and amazing Silent Hill 2 style.

thereapersson3172d ago

I really wish they would remake the first game from the ground up. Not messing with the formula or anything, just completely remake the game identically the way it was.

bacon133172d ago

I really hope this game is so terrifying I crap my pants. Not literally of course but......ok, I want it to make me [email protected]$% myself. Do the right thing Konami and just make a Silent Hill 2 esque sequel with amazing graphics, that will be all.

Giant_Chibi3172d ago (Edited 3172d ago )

I personally would want the original team silent to come back together for this one. I'd think that would be the only way to truly make a worthy sequel.

Sadly, I don't even think that's going to be possible, considering that Akira Yamaoka left the building and some of the key members jumped ship from Konami to SCEJ to make Siren.

Glad that double helix isn't working on this one at least. Homecoming was weak when compared to previous titles.

I also wouldn't mind Climax coming back, Shattered Memories wasn't great, but the ending definitely made it redeemable. I really loved the ending in that game.

But I still stick with wanting Team Silent for the job. Honestly all of the Silent Hill games that weren't developed by the original team, felt like they had something missing. Like something was a bit off. It's like a tribute band doing a cover of your favorite artist. Their work may be commendable, but it will never quite live up to the original.

Blaster_Master3172d ago

I have to agree. Part 2 was freakin awesome.

hamoor3172d ago

there is no horror game that REALLY makes you pis$ your pants in this gen

and thought that next gen graphics gonna makes horror games more scarier

Megaton3172d ago

One thing that really concerns me is that Akira Yamaoka left Konami last year, and signed with a different studio this year. His music in the series has always been a big part of the experience.

Silent hill 2 was definitely haunting.

I had a teacher in highschool who was once a part-time nurse and she would tell us stories of how the hospital was haunted. She was working a late shift one night and came across a patient wandering the halls. When she tried to approach him, he turned the corner and as she peered around, he had vanished.

I was creeped out by the story itself, but actually experiencing it, I always wondered how that would have felt. That feeling of disbelief.

And when I played silent hill 2, the elevator scene with maria and the pyramid head... my god, she died and then she came back to life. In the beginning of the game she seems like a normal person with a strange aura to her. But by the end of the game, I was like, "Who the fuk is this person!" I was really freaked out, she was dead in one scene and then she came back as if nothing had happened.

That's what I love about silent hill 2, It took that feeling of supernatural, disbelief and translated the emotion of experiencing it so perfectly.

Someone hasn't played Dead Space...

sikbeta3172d ago

The Franchise was Great Before SH4 and that game was done by Team Silent, so I'll love to see an Awesome SH like SH1 or 2, but I just lost faith in the series the same way I lost faith in Resident Evil series...

Chubear3172d ago (Edited 3172d ago )

Seems someone hasn't really played horror games.

Dead Space was not a horror game. It had thrill frights and a good spooky edge but it was not horror at all. More like The Thing, RE4&5 or Extermination which can have you on edge sure, but they aren't really horror.

Play games like Fatal Frame, Siren, Silent Hill 1&2 (even the old resident evil games) and you'll get a sense of what horror genre is about.

blind-reaper3172d ago

when will people stop calling "next-gen" to "this gen"... lol

himdeel3172d ago

...Siren: Blood Curse and that game is amazing. So move along nothing to see here...

BasilMarceaux3172d ago

And please let this one be more like the first 2 (or 3) and not like the last 2!

NeoBasch3172d ago (Edited 3172d ago )

Hmmm, that's funny. I seem to recall playing every last game you mentioned. Yeah, those are horror, but Dead Space is as well. How could you consider it anything but horror? That there just blows my mind. Thriller? Um... no. Dead Space isn't even close to a thriller. Heavy Rain is a thriller. Do you see the difference there? If not, you need to study up on the last century's worth of cinema.

I'm guessing you're new to horror yourself, being as you listed some of the most well known franchises that have become staples of the genre. If you were a horror fan, you probably would have listed Eternal Darkness as well. Dino Crisis? I mean, come on here. There is much more to horror here than your list entails. Even lesser games like Echo Night Beyond, a game where you don't even get to fight, provide more scares than your old school CHEESY Resident Evil, no offense. I know horror.

There is more to horror than games with atmospheric and highly stylized settings full of Japanese aesthetics. Try some. They may not all be the best and brightest, but I'm sure you'll get plenty of enjoyment out of them.

Also, don't bother mentioning Silent Hill 1 and 2 if you're not going to mention 3. 3 was just as good as the original, not as good as 2, but still, a hallmark nonetheless. That right there tells me you only play the popular ones. I'm not even going to waste my breath.

Umm...ok... so what was the last one they made? I just hope this one lives up to expectations. Man these mediocre games makes me want to hook up the ps2 for some "real" games.

-MD-3172d ago

Great news! I really enjoyed the last one.

Chris3993172d ago (Edited 3172d ago )

Even the critics agreed on that. Easily the worst of the bunch. Story was cookie-cutter and predictable, graphics were barely passable, there was none of the canon 'eerie stillness and mood'. The voice-acting was particularly awful too. Serious question, but have you played 1 & 3? Those two were brilliant. Especially how they intertwined. And both succeeded in freaking me out on SIGNIFICANTLY less powerful consoles.

Aside from the first 30 mins of Dead Space (before it becomes Resident Evil in Space), I haven't been genuinely creeped this gen.

(The disagrees aren't from me, btw - I don't roll that way :P)

Edit: You should check out 1 and 3 (2 is very good, as well). The ambiance and script are superb, even by today's standards. Really terrific games. In comparison, to long-standing fans of the series (like me), Homecoming was an incredible disappointment.

-MD-3172d ago (Edited 3172d ago )

I never properly played a Silent Hill game other than Homecoming. I tried Silent Hill 1 and 2 when I was younger but I didn't have it in me to play through them. Growing up I was more into Resident Evil and I never really gave this series a chance.

Homecoming wasn't the best game ever but it was a very solid rental and I'm glad I played it. Apparently most people are burned on this series but personally I want to see more.

Based on the comments and disagrees in this thread I guess I'm the only one that enjoyed Homecoming. Regardless I'm still excited to see a new one.

sikbeta3172d ago (Edited 3172d ago )

SH1 > SH2 > SH3 >> SH4 >>> SHO >>> SH:HC

Team Silent did an Amaing Job with the First Three Games, The Room wasn't that good and after that everything went downhill...

John HX3172d ago

It's ok, I liked it too. Sadly no one else did.

cervantes993172d ago

I enjoyed Homecoming too. Not a great game, but glad I played it.

I was on an Alaskan cruise last year and I would sit on my balcony late at night where only the wind (with that whistle sound to it) and the sound of the ocean in the background while I played Homecoming on my PSP. That environment really added to the mood of the game.

Chris3993172d ago

That was on the PSP and it was pretty good. Homecomming was an abortion.

Why is the heading calling it next-gen, surly it must be this-gen by now. I my mind next-gen is PS4/xbox 720 etc.

Should just be 'Konami confirms new Silent Hill game'

iNFAMOUZ13172d ago

its good the way it is, for the obvious reason that sient hill is mainly a last gen console favorite franchise, It only builds on the promise by saying "Next Gen", Besides with all the great games coming for both consoles, I still say next gen, Amazing loot of games coming down the pipeline!

HxCGamer3172d ago

everyone still says next generation like it just came out this yearw... but we are pretty well into this generation... so yea "this generation"

Foxgod3172d ago

The 360 and ps3 are next gen until you buy them.
They should indeed stop the silly next gen argument.
