According to aggregate weekly estimates from the research department of Home Media Magazine and listed each week on blu-ray.com's sales information posts, revenues from BD sales in the US in the first quarter of 2010 were $331.31 million, 68.5% more than in the same period of 2009. Blu-ray accounted for 12.3% of packaged-media sales revenue in the first three months of the year (versus 7.0% in Jan-Mar 2009).

Nice to see Blu-Ray picking up steam more and more each year

Chaostar5134d ago

Yes well done to Blu-ray who had my support from the very beggining, if only because I already had a PS3 and didnt wanna shell out for another player ;P

Seriously though those figures are impressive, also with the launch of 3D blu-ray just around the corner and every major new release supporting the format they can only get better.

Parapraxis5133d ago

This proves without a doubt that those who claim Blu-ray is a failing format haven't got the slightest idea what they are talking about.

Awesome Numbers, Great to see More and More People supporting Blu-Ray and I feel Sorry for the Doubters, They couldn't be More Wrong...

This is due to the deals of the bluray/dvd combos that are becoming more common. A real deal from the perspective of a household that watches both. I like being able to watch the HD version on the big screen and then let the kids take the dvd version in their room or even the digital copy on the go.

This is how you get your format adopted. Cater to the whole crowd in one nicely priced package. When it was just blu or dvd I would get the dvd every time. To many dvd players to limit viewing to just a single room/player.

Blu/dvd combo ftw!

edit: I been seeing commercials for LotR trilogy on blu this tuesday (tomorrow).

kalebgray925133d ago

blu ray will die..... stfu.... every website and person that said that years ago just got farted in their face

ThatCanadianGuy5133d ago

Lord of the Rings trilogy tomorrow on Blu-Ray..
Whew! That's gonna keep the money ball rolling.

MAR-TYR-DOM5133d ago

Blu Ray is finally starting come into its own, and now ppl are talking about 3D? GTFO! I just bought my tv and home theatre system, im not gonna care about 3D for the next 5 years!

think about some people saying that BR is dead and it's a failure to introduce BR into the market.

DarkBlood5133d ago

BLURAY FTW

JRisburning5133d ago

I own about 6 Blu-Ray movies....a VERy small collection, but it will continue to grow. Glad its picking up some steam.

Dance5133d ago

Compared to DVD and VHS it is and with digital distribution on the rise thing are going to get worse

guerojose5133d ago

^^^ Hahaha! We've got a live one, folks. There are still a few out there. Still trying to find a way to twist the numbers, explain away massive growth, and shout dire predictions of the DD future.

mrv3215133d ago

You sound like a HD-DVD owner... how did that work out for you again?

Seriously VHS is dead, DVD is still going and Digital doesn't provide the quality. Blu-ray is it's own market of the full 1080p 7.1 film experience and let's not all forget 3D blu-ray.

weazel5133d ago

Woah - sparkly insights there Dance. Can you please link to life-cycle adoption, market saturation, and multi-format product data to provide conclusive evidence that your statements aren't actually the vapid fud that I suspect that they might be. (I thought that 1n 1998 DVD sales reached $259 million for the year.(The whole year!)) Obviously this was at the start of the upswing / mass-adoption of the format, but following the clouds settling on the great hd-dvd smackdown, there only seems to be one clear hard format of choice.)

The whole point of blu-ray is to get higher quality movies. You're suggesting that digital downloads, which offer LOWER quality, are going to supplant blu-ray? To have the same quality as blu-ray, a downloaded movie must NECESSARILY take up 25GB of space. Most connections still aren't good enough to be able to download that amount of data in a reasonable amount of time. Heck, most providers are now enforcing bandwidth caps of 10GB per month.

cardgenius5133d ago

Digital Distribution? Really?

http://www.blu-ray.com/news...

Yeah, thats what I thought.

dredgewalker5133d ago

You should change your name to "Dunce" cause it suits you much better.

Brklynty15133d ago

Comapred to DVD and VHS? Well I can see why your stuck on old technology after all your precious console is as well. And DD? Lmfao! Dude that's for music and music only. Just admit it, BLU-RAY wtfpwns DVD! Seriously you don't hear mothers asking their kids if they want their Kung-Fu Panda to be on DVD or VHS. Just GTFO. You fail, HD-DVD fails, and M$ fails and for everyone that doubted Blu-Ray, you fail as well.

EKWB reportedly plagued with financial disarray many gaming pc's left without parts

EK Cooling allegedly has slipped itself into a hot soup of seemingly endless financial woes, where it has not paid its staff, suppliers, and contractors for many months as the company is facing liquidity problems and a surplus of inventory left unsold, stuck in the warehouse for a more extended period. Gamers Nexus investigated these claims made by former and current personnel, where he found trails of unpaid bills lasting as long as three to four months and unpaid raises that accumulated for almost a year.

EK Water Blocks has two entities—a Slovenian-based headquarters and a US-based subsidiary, EK Cooling Solutions. Steve narrated the series of events in detail, stating that the company was reportedly irresponsible and negligent regarding payment. Consequently, partners and employees are forced to share the burden of alleged mismanagement. It all begins with its extensive range of products, leading to a surplus of goods. EK has over 230 water blocks, 40 liquid cooling kits, 85 reservoirs, 40 pumps, 73 radiators, and 212 miscellaneous accessories.

Yes this is not about video games directly but indirectly this will impact the pc gaming/workstation space hard.

This company is massive one of two in the water cool space so if it goes poof then thousands out there have no spare parts or half built computers.

SO yeah i know not about a video game but think of it as amd leaving the pc space but this is ekwb that could be leaving water cooling in the pc space

Jayz2cents a supporter of there products also has issues

As someone that has built a watercooling rig. EK is big, but there's so many numerous watercooling part companies out there. EK's stuff isn't exactly amazing quality for the price compared to others either, it's just ok. Much like Corsair. The impact would be negligible long term. For perspective the majority of my parts are XSPC, at most I use EK for my gpu waterblocks and fittings. Both easily replaceable.
