Bungie: Reach Has Made Amazing Strides Forward

Bungie: The game has made some amazing strides forward. I have very high standards that have been difficult to achieve, but this team of warriors has already achieved and exceeded what I thought was possible. Damn, it's a good thing to be surrounded by such talented people.

Marcus Lehto is a talented artist. I remember seeing him in the collector's disc of Halo 2, where it showed how Halo 2 was made. Some of his earlier work really put the Chief in very large environments, but that was never truly reflected in either Halo 2 or 3. I hope they have done it with Reach. I know the Chief isn't in this one, but with whatever spartan there is, they can put him in larger areas.

Fishy Fingers5135d ago

Halo was never 720p, halo 3 was 640p and I'm pretty sure Reach hasn't been confirmed, at least not the finished product.

sid4gamerfreak5135d ago

here we go again, ps3 fanboys bashing another yet unreleased tittle for the 360 and claiming its a ripoff...

You guys are actually making the ps3, an awesome console with awesome games look bad.

Def Warrant5135d ago (Edited 5135d ago )

@ sid4gamer

Why is it that when ever someone gives a constructive criticism about a 360 game they are automatically a ps3 fanboy? You people really need to chill with the conspiracies, it makes you look childish and insecure. What they stated above are facts so what is your problem?

With the way you sound, one would think you created the game and refuse to have anyone opinion. Please don't become a game developer. We'd be bombarded with the same generic trash over and over.

Relax and just have fun mate.

Edit: Ofcourse you did fox. Dumb is an acquired taste in your vocabulary.

Foxgod5135d ago

Wheres the constructive criticism?
All i read was dumb bashing about the resolution.

Syronicus5135d ago

They had to. There were technical limitations to the games lighting engine and if they went with a true HD res then the lighting would have suffered.

http://www.bungie.net/News/...

Maybe this time they have found a way to utilize the hardware in the 360 and make for better lighting? I guess we will see soon enough. If it is not running in true HD then we know they found the hardware limiting yet again.

DelbertGrady5135d ago

And their bubble count gives you an image about what kind of opinions are accepted around here.

Fishy Fingers5135d ago

So by correcting someone with factual information not only does that make me a fanboy but also guilty of bashing Halo? Right...

5135d ago
Akagi5135d ago

@Sid4gamer

You aren't serious, are you? Do you not remember the whole Heavy Rain fiasco? 360 gamers bashed the hell out of that before and when it released.

iFLOWLIKEWATER5135d ago

Why are you in here?

On topic...Halo looks to deliver quite an experience. Their fans are some of the most catered to in gaming and other devs should take note.

IdleLeeSiuLung5135d ago

"One item making the interwebs rounds this week was the scandalous revelation that Halo 3 runs at “640p” which isn’t even technically a resolution. However, the interweb detectives did notice that Halo 3’s vertical resolution, when captured from a frame buffer, is indeed 640 pixels. So what gives? Did we short change you 80 pixels?

Naturally it’s more complicated than that. In fact, you could argue we gave you 1280 pixels of vertical resolution, since Halo 3 uses not one, but two frame buffers – both of which render at 1152x640 pixels. The reason we chose this slightly unorthodox resolution and this very complex use of two buffers is simple enough to see – lighting. We wanted to preserve as much dynamic range as possible – so we use one for the high dynamic range and one for the low dynamic range values. Both are combined to create the finished on screen image.

This ability to display a full range of HDR, combined with our advanced lighting, material and postprocessing engine, gives our scenes, large and small, a compelling, convincing and ultimately “real” feeling, and at a steady and smooth frame rate, which in the end was far more important to us than the ability to display a few extra pixels. Making this decision simpler still is the fact that the 360 scales the
“almost-720p” image effortlessly all the way up to 1080p if you so desire."

From the link syronicus posted. Interesting...

-Alpha5135d ago

Hey welcome to my world: You can't have a contradictory opinion however factual or fair it may be just because hating is a bad thing.

I don't know why you brought up what you brought up, perhaps it was a reply to FangBlade whose comment has been deleted, but if you gave facts (which you did), there more power to you.

Halo 3 may not be in HD, but IMO I don't mind one bit. The game looks fine enough, and the lack of strong graphics allowed for things like split screen, forge, theater mode, co-op, etc.

That is what i love about Bungie: instead of focusing on graphics they focused on making the best damn gameplay available on consoles.

Now Reach is trying to please graphic fans, but I hope they don't make it their only number 1 priority. half of what makes the MP so fun is the sheer variety of co-op, split screen, etc.

The game's balance is stunning, the playlist updates, the fun, and the variety in gameplay is unmatched to this day. In fact I'd say only BC2 compares today to how dynamic games turn out.

I never feel like two games are the same.

Anyways, I digress: point is, you shouldnt be bashed for stating facts or your own opinion if you are respectful, and I find u to be a very respective user here.

Shepherd 2145135d ago (Edited 5135d ago )

last i remember constructive criticism was actually constructive. The devs who work on the Halo games are extremely generous and talented people. They try their hardest to stay in touch with their fans and give their players what they want. Even if Reach still runs in 640p, what Bungie gives their fanbase is something no resolution or technical quibble will replace and i wont care what it runs in.

Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 are amazing looking games, but they lack the same kind of support that Bungie still gives to the Halo 3 community, a game almost 3 years old. I can expect that every month the several Halo playlists will be changed, replaced, or updated, every weekend there will be a double EXP playlist, every friday there will be a several page long weekly update on Halo 3's current status and Reach's development, and i can trust that Bungie is trying their hardest to do their research and make Reach the game that their fans want and a improve on the flaws of Halo 3 is whatever way possible.

This is only a fraction of what they do for their dedicated fans. That means more to me than groundbreaking graphics, and i am convinced that Halo Reach will be a delicious treat that will keep me busy for years afterwards. Halo fans have the luxery of being spoon-fed and spoiled with content and genuine care from Bungie, and i truly feel sorry for people who cannot at least respect that and then fork over 60 for a game that will only last them a couple months or less of lasting appeal, and hear nothing but near silence or non-personal communication to its fans from the dev team that made the game.

Anon19745135d ago (Edited 5135d ago )

You're a ways away from launch. Go ask Molyneux what happens when you start overhyping a game that's months before it's release.

I have no doubt Reach is going to be great, but let's not all board the hype train yet when we don't even know the destination.

Mo0eY5135d ago

@Darkride66

It doesn't matter. People will buy it because it's another Halo game. Sad but true.

Great post, dude, bubbles.

Bungie being so close with their community is awesome. I love that they give tidbits of information whenever they can.

Other games, you have to sit by idly waiting for any kind of info, but with Bungie, you know you're going to get something almost every single Friday.

As you mentioned their playlist updates, Double EXP every weekend, etc, that's why Halo 3 was the most played game on XBL for 2007, 2008 and 2009.

They've had three or four map packs, and continuous support for the past two and a half years. They haven't had to patch the MP at all for glitches or exploits.

People can say Halo doesn't stand out graphically (I think it looks great, personally), or it isn't original (I feel it has the most unique weapons/vehicles in any game), but you absolutely cannot argue with the support Bungie provides. That is the biggest reason why so many people love Halo.

@Mooey

"It doesn't matter. People will buy it because it's another Halo game. Sad but true."

People will buy it because they know they'll get a quality product with almost limitless replay value and continued developer support that is second to none.

May 3rd can't come any sooner

Inside_out5135d ago

This kid is on every 360 thread on here...LMAO...sad really...Don't like lasers huh...How about 1600 ft monsters with a naked guy, your favorite part no doubt, fighting with bear heads on his arms...PS3 fanboys are a sad bunch..."Somebody else started it"...Must be a 10yr old...lol...

On topic...Bungie the best at what they do...Making Halo games on 360 console....This game is gonna be huge...Fanboys talking about things not even in the article, which is meant for Halo FANS..

It's only gonna get worse from here on in this year for PS3...Nothing to play on the PS3...I know, I have one...Can't even sell the thing, PS3 slim cost's half what I paid for it...I hope KZ3 is better than that turd KZ2...

I don't know where we would be without the 360 this yr...ME2 Conviction, Alan Wake, Halo, fable ( maybe gears3 )...all this year, not mention ALL multi-plats play and look better than the PS3 versions...Buy all multi-plats on 360...Add to that the best controller and on line in gaming......Can't wait for E3.....

Marcus Fenix5135d ago

I guess u r replying to the wrong person

XRider5135d ago

LOL thats what I was thinking

Convas5135d ago

I Agree that May 3rd can't come soon enough, but the Beta is clearly about Multiplayer. Marcus Lehto is talking about the campaign which we won't see till E3, and ultimately won't be playing till Fall when it releases.

But yeah, Roll on May 3rd. Day One.

Marcus Fenix5135d ago (Edited 5135d ago )

umm, I do remmember reading that the beta will include a single player mission a while ago, I'll need 2 google it.

EDIT: here is it
http://xboxevolved.e-mpire....

I believe it's legit since it came from the same guy who leaked the first Reach screenshots off cam long time ago and they turned out 2 be legit.

Convas5135d ago

But Bungie and Microsoft have already made it clear that is a Multiplayer Beta. There isn't going to be a campaign demo in the Beta.

Deadman645135d ago

I expect to see firefight in the beta. Which may be the "single player"

Halo3 MLG Pro5135d ago

Wow. We could be looking at one of the biggest game launches in the history of gaming. This is going to fun folks. :)

mrv3215135d ago

Trust me it probably wont defeat MW2.

Tachyon_Nova5135d ago

Well, it obviously wont beat MW2's sales across all platforms, by the time Reach is released MW2 will be pushing 20-23 million sales in total. No-one would seriously try and claim that Halo Reach is gonna sell that well when its potential user base is in the low 40 millions.

How'd fallout not make the list. Atleast over cyberpunk, tales , and halo. Fallout been around since what 96 98 and has 5 6 games into it. It's full of lore when you play it. I'd even add star ocean to a point.

robtion474d ago

Agree Fallout should be on there.

MadLad475d ago

And somehow Planescape Torment doesn't even make the list.

Crows90475d ago

Hollow knight surpasses these.

shinoff2183475d ago

In lore? I must be missing something

Crows90475d ago (Edited 475d ago )

Yes in lore. Easily missed... absolutely. Never played a game that had me loving the world and lore behind it as much as that one. Most of course wouldn't be able to experience it since it is a more difficult game.

DarXyde474d ago

I can't speak for all titles on this list, but by the time you get to Dark Souls III, the lore is a bloody tapestry of intricacy

Crows90474d ago

Played them all. Im not saying the games on the list dont have good lore...I just think hollow knight had more lore that is hidden but present and more easily explored and accessed. The souls games have tremendous lore but theyre mostly hidden and stay that way unless you look for it and research it. The lore is not very accessible.

DarXyde474d ago

Crows90,

I think that's a somewhat fair assessment. For me, the Souls games are less upfront about the lore, but it does invite your fascination through NPCs, items, locations, bosses, etc. There's this kind of natural progression where the picture becomes just clear enough by doing the essential tasks, but it really makes you want to explore every inch of the world.

TheColbertinator474d ago

Suikoden and Legend of Heroes also have massive lore setups.

agent13474d ago

narration is more important than lore i'd rather watch the story and characters in a more cinematic way instead of searching for notes and stuff that's why i love sony exclusive games like uncharted and gow and hate from software games

shinoff2183474d ago

The article was top ten lore in video games. I think they did a bad job picking games out. I know what you mean though. I just like a variety of games and genres.

Awesome news - so can we look forward to playing Halo: Infinite with no online issues circa 2033?

just_looken559d ago

"You can download the improved Reach AI mod at Mod DB" This was a mod 343 did nothing so the online will be fixed in our dreams.

SullysCigar559d ago

Par for the course with 343.

Profchaos559d ago

They did say they had a 10 year plan for infinite we just all assumed it would be DLC could of been a 10 year netcode rollout.

But seriously this is a mod the community won't be able to modify infinite in the same way

Cikatriz_ESP559d ago

Combat Evolved was the best campaign, and it's not even close.

just_looken559d ago

You should have tried this version of reach when it first came out remastered for a year there was no sound because 343 could not locate the sound files.

It was a special challenge.

badz149559d ago

more like the bunch at 343i are simply mentally challenged

ACEMANWISE559d ago

Well I guess 12 years is faster than most fixes. I guess this is a cheap way to "remaster" something nowadays.....by just fixing something that used to always be broken.

zidane1341559d ago

Did you even read the article? This is a mod to improve AI from back almost 2 gens ago. Nobody is claiming this is remastering anything. Yeesh.

Crows90559d ago

Halo is dead. Microsoft has other shooter franchises it cares more about now. 343 are no longer Xbox golden studio. They are likely to shift things around or even close it all together and give the IP to someone else.

343i decided to pummel the IP into the ground...and when they see it didn't quite look like Glenn's face they decided to just keep on pummeling. Not sure if Glenn is the IP or the fanbase in this case though.

Profchaos559d ago

343 were never the golden studio they were a hastily thrown together b team when bungie said we want to do something else cya

Crows90559d ago

Well ...I didn't want to say it but I agree. Makes you wonder why Microsoft gave them the IP and didn't keep Bungie or any of the talent they acquired from any studio.

CobraKai559d ago

“ Halo Infinite, Halo 3, or Halo: Combat Evolved. It’s hard to say which of the sci-fi FPS games offers the best experience all round.”
He lost me with Halo Infinite.
