PSLS writes: Today is the 5-year anniversary of the PSP's release. The PSP has redefined what's expected from a gaming handheld system with its many features and multimedia capabilities. However, Sony says "the best is yet to come".
Just release PSP2 with touch screen, no one cares about PSP anymore.
"The Best is Yet to Come" was a great song
The best is yet to come for the 2 dudes who give a damn about this useless piece of technology.
It's called the 3DS.
If there is one thing that companies in gaming should have learned by now is that having or not having a head start can make a difference in the mindshare of consumers but also very importantly mindshare of developers. If Sony wants to stay in the handheld gaming business, they have to release a new PSP at the same time as the new DS.
PSP....(Sigh) What could have been.
I don't know about you guys, but, for most RPG fans, the PSP and the DS have offered a much better JRPG lineup than PS3/360/Wii this generation.
Does this mean that PSP2 is not in sight.... since the PSP in Sony's mind hasn't reached it's prime.
give us a PSP2 with the Cell
what vibrant lineup in 2010 ????? serously ive looked about and other than Modnation Racers and the new MGS game there is nothing at all there. PSP had an awesome year in 2009 with LBP PSP, Motorstorm AE, Gran Turismo, F1 2009 but this year there is nothing. personally last year was the best year in the PSP`s lifecycle and it looks like it was just a flash in the pan to sell PSP Go units. all i can say is roll on the PSP 2.
besides Modnation and Metal Gear Solid im getting Fat Princess and Valkyria Chronicles 2 , already got Socom Fireteam Bravo 3 and Patchwork Heroes but i would wait for E3 to see the fall line up before i judge if there is nothing else i want to play on the little system , last year definitely was great for me , i got Resistance Retribution , Motorstorm Arctic Edge , Gran Turismo , Little Big Planet , Jack and Daxter The Lost Frontier , Pixeljunk Monsters Deluxe , Patapon 2 and Savage Moon , hope to see big games coming out for the little system at E3 ( hopefully Uncharted, inFAMOUS , Warhawk , another God of War game , another Killzone game and that would be equally if not more great than last year line up lol )
gran turismo this year at least mod nation racers too . AND e3 will tell us more
SOCOM FTB3 completely kicks ass and was released last month. The Dante's Inferno PSP version from just a couple of weeks ago is freaking ASTOUNDING, nearly as good as the system selling GOW title, but no one even bothered to review it. People are in such a rush to dismiss the PSP that they simply say "no software" without even bothering to stay informed. The PSP has a hellaciously good software library that's been built up over the last 5 years and Sony continues to encourage devs and releases their own premium/sponsored stuff. I really enjoy my PSP, more so than any other portable device I've ever used... it's such a shame to think there are people who would otherwise enjoy it similarly but have written it off due to all the anti-hype on the net. It's a multimedia powerhouse, too... just a great, great, piece of tech. Love it to bits.
How can anyone say that with a straight face?
But they did. You can play movies, music, web browse, etc. For those that modded their PSPs you can even read PDF files and other files. Now we even expect the PSP2 to at least do most of the stuff the PS3 can do... i know i am. Damn thing better play youtube videos like my itouch.
The PSP does a lot of things, and while it may not do any of them better then anything else out there it does them very well, and it does have very good games. But people who are hating on the system or say Sony shouldn't bother are just idiots. Competition promotes better products for us, the consumers, and without the PSP or other handheld advancements before it and what will come after it we'd be stuck with the original Gameboy, great in its day but a paperweight at best now. While I think Sony's plans with PSP and their sales strategy is poor they do have a lot of potential with the unit itself, again Sony holding Sony back.
Hopefully it'll make the puddle jump.
I was happy with the graphics and that's the main reason I bought the PSP (I was like 14 lol) and now I know graphics can only take you so far. As time went on I started to dislike it and have even been playing more games on my iPod Touch than the PSP lol. I'm not a huge fan of handheld gaming anyways, but I think that's saying something.
id have to have alot of ps1 games to justify getting a pspgo so for now i'll stick with my god of war psp
the best as in something? 5 years is a long time with nothing to show. "The PSP has redefined what’s expected from a gaming handheld system" yeah epic fail
shouldnt you be in school right now or did you cut class?
@Pope_John WTH are you talking about? School? he couldn't miss teh [email protected] marathon... lol
Dammit, what's with the PSP hate around here? I own about 23 games for PSP and find it an excellent handheld which just needs more games most the time, that's mainly the developers choice, not Sony's.
It looks like were some of the few people on N4G that enjoy the psp. I have about that many psp games also, and several of them are fantastic. For the longest time I had more PSP games than DS and enjoyed it more, but lately I have been slowly buying more and more the DS just because of the shear number games it has. It's not that the psp doesn't have many games, it just that the DS an order of magnitude more games than the psp. Who knows the psp might end up like the original xbox and eventually lead way to a very strong psp2 just like the xbox 360.
The widespread piracy might have done some damage but it is still a very capable handheld with loads of great features. Top 5 PSP games i'm anticipating: KH Birth by Sleep Ushiro FF13 Agito ParasiteEve:3rd Birthday ModnationRacers PSP
I don't know about you guys but I m one of the few people that purchased the pspgo, and even though right now there are not allot of profile games on it, no Crisis Core, and the forth coming Kingdom hearts is going to be UMD based only (for now). It is very convenient to carry around, instead of the bulky old psp. Further, I am truly enjoying the digital comics, the old Marvel Civil War and Marvel Zombies series I have downloaded. I just wish they would promote it more, and lower the price, and not not make any new renditions of the system. I was originally pissed at Sony b/c only the European community received the new granturismo game free for purchasing the system while the us got squat. But I have faith in Sony and I know that they will do us right by the system if they put more emphasisis on the digitalized downloads because that is the wave of the future.
PSP just cries* while everyone else nodes their head in agreement*
why is it that you have to mod your psp to read PDF files? I still have a psp phat, never bothered with the others simply because the games are the same no matter what you put them into. I remember back when the first ds was released, I literally went back and forth between a ds and a psp, (thanks to EBGames rather good trading policy). The only thing that interests me is the bigger screen and clearer visuals, otherwise I'd stick to my GP2X for Movies, Music, not to mention fully open source game development.
I'm calling it :P ;),I can hope!
The main problem with people's hate on the PSP is that they don't see it for what it is. It is a handheld gaming system. It is not an HD Console that requires a solid setup to increase your gaming experience. Why don't people view the DS through the same lens as they do the PSP? Handheld games are supposed to be games you can pick up and play and the PSP Go's pause feature is perfect for that. No matter if you are in the middle of a battle, or wherever you are...you can pause it and pick it back up exactly where you were. And that is why I think the Go is great. Sure...there are some things I wish were different (pricing issues for sure!) But the idea of the PSP Go is a fine one. I personally only buy games that compliment portability. Puzzle games, rpgs, etc. Games where if I were taken out of the action I wouldn't lose from the gaming experience. Yes I will buy the new MGS...but that is just because I am a huge MGS fan. Overall, I think people's "beef" with the PSP Go is one of pricing (and not just the system but for the games as well). The PSP Go is a great idea it just needs to be reconsidered for pricing.
Parasite Eve 3 and Resident Evil Portable, I got my pre-paid PSN cards ready for them. I'm hoping Sony will provide some PSP surprises, but I think they will get overshadow by the 3DS in the handheld arena this year, if no info on the PSP2 is given.
My right bumper on my PSP is broken from simply using it. They need to make a new PSP. Preferably a PSP 2, that's backwards compatible with UMDs, and actually has a second analog stick.
i think we will see a PSP2 this year. The problem is, how are they going to price it? $250 isnt going to cut it.
They haven't done anything for it in he past, why should I believe them now. They showed no support this whatsoever
Shouldn't the title be "The Best HAS Yet to Come"?
My PSP has served me well over the years. If you think the PSP is a flop then you either don't own one or are just too oblivious to all the great games on the platform and how versatile it is. Or you're just a fanboy.
