Midterm Report Card: Xbox 360, Wii, and PS3

Back in November, Entertainment Weekly reviewed the three next-generation videogame consoles: Sony's PlayStation 3, Nintendo's Wii, and Microsoft's Xbox 360. The first two systems had just arrived in stores, the latter had just celebrated its first anniversary. As they expected, some of you took grave exception to the grades they awarded each system. Now, as they prepare for next week's E3 convention - look for their on-the-scene reports on EW.com's PopWatch blog - they offer this midterm report card for the three consoles...

The story is too old to be commented.

I like the article, So basically for Sony it comes down to games.

F'n Sony hurry the f*ck up. I like the Few games that are out there but I need at least 1 Above-average title a month and 1 Awesome title to come out at least every 2. So giddy up and hurry up.

Not just games. Price as well.

I think all 3 consoles should get an "A" for different reasons!
XBOX 360 - for it's large selection of good software and XBOX Live
PS3 - for it's Blue Ray and future potential (including upcoming games)
Wii - for it's inovation and cheap price point

With all three systems, there are a lot of different reasons to purchase them all - but, that's just my opinion;)

Man... I wish my teachers would concider my "future potential" when they did my "Midterm Report Card". I would get only A and 100.

The problem is...they didn't see any future potential in you..:)

just kidding...

At one point Dreamcast had a lot of potential as well.

They will buy it when the potential becomes a reality.

I agree with most of what they wrote.
I don't understand why they don't mention the fact that the 360 breaks so easy. For me that would make the grade go from A- to at lest a B.

When they fix the console so it doesn't break and doesn't sound like a jet engine we can talk about an A+.

Right now I agree with the fact that the PS3 is a B-.
At Xmas time it will be an A (with the games out and the price-cut I'm sure they will do)
If and when they add TV/Movie streaming/download we can talk about an A+.

Why is the Wii listed at $349?

Boon Tarkas3813d ago

I have nothing against Nintendo, but I've said it before and I will say it again.... The systems success is based on price point and media hype. The games are lackluster, the controller is gimmicky. Playing this only makes me want to go home and play Guitar Hero 2. If you have a slight tremor your screwed on the Wii.

Wii's time in the sun is limited, and here's why. There is not a single kid out there that after seeing a PS3 in action or a 360, whether they already have a Wii or not, that will not be crying for one of those two systems come Christmas.

The Wii is a consolation prize.

For those of us that have played the Wii and owned at least one other system, this is indisputably the case. After we've played the Wii we're all like "well that's kinda cool, but thank god I have a stunner system at home!"
