PlayStation Move Gets Its First Wii Port

Kotaku writes: "With the PlayStation Move looking, well, similar to Nintendo's Wii Remote, you may have wondered how long it would take until it was announced a Wii game was being ported to the PS3. The answer? How about, oh, a few hours.

Warner Bros let us know today that The Lord of the Rings: Aragorn's Quest, a game previously headed for the Wii (and DS), will now also be making an appearance on the PlayStation 3, "with full support for PlayStation's upcoming motion controller technology"."

The story is too old to be commented.

God damn these inferior games. Atleast they will be HD atleast! atleast! right! It's gotta be HD!

Or my precious eyes will be blinded by the 480p bluriness.

Silly gameAr2816d ago (Edited 2816d ago )

Lord help us all.

I hope the Wii fanboys don't point out the PS3's inferior ports.

Lens of Truth comparisons anyone?

MEsoJD2816d ago

-_-

We'll atleast we know theres quality games coming out.

Hopefully the quality ones do better in sales than the crappy ones.

captain-obvious2816d ago

i knew it
lol
but hey look at the bright side
now instead of buying a wii and a PS3
you can only have the PS3

mikeslemonade2816d ago (Edited 2816d ago )

True, I made a mistake this generation of buying all three systems when I should have just stuck with my first purchase which was the PS3. PS3 is the only system you need this generation.

Below:
I rather play all those nintendo first party exclusives with a conventional controller on the gamecube.

NMC20072816d ago

Yes, I am sure PS3 only fans will now be able to enjoy all the Nintendo greats such as Mario, Zelda, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Punch Out, Metroid, and all the rest.

Come on Captain.

captain-obvious2816d ago

lol yah i forgot about those
sorry

well i guess there is something to play on my wii after all

speaking of that
i didnt play my wii in a long time

vhero2816d ago

At least we will be getting a lot more games now and probably a lot of them wont be coming to 360 as NATAL would be a bit of a bugger to set them up for compared to Move. As Move is so similar to wii-mote porting would be a lot easier than NATAL which may need an entire re-build in some games.

PirateThom2816d ago

Natal always had this disadvantage.

Sony knew, Nintendo knew and Microsoft will learn, games need tactile response.

Natal could be 1:1 and have amazing detection, but that doesn't assit with the input side of it and while using a controller is possible, Microsoft are pushing this as "controller free gaming" so using a controller only raises the question, why is Natal needed?

We've seen (and know) how responsive Wii can be with Motion+ (and the IR pointer has always been excellent for precision), we've seen how Move is responsive and precise (software issues with that fighting game aside - even Wii suffers poorly programmed motion controls). Microsoft have definitely taken on the biggest challenge here, making new gaming experiences both with buttons and without the ability for games to say "hold x item" due to a Sony patent.

On the flip side though, Natal only has to be better than Eye Toy and Vision Cam, while Move has to be better then Wii. Both have to appeal to Wii's market, expect a lot of shovelware on both, even with Sony's attempts to reassure with showings of SOCOM 4.

Immortal Kaim2816d ago

Unfortunately I think this will be the way these ports go, I guess it is easier to create these games for the Wii, then simply port over to PS3 which will give them a HD boost...

presto7172816d ago

We might not have zelda and mario, but i am sure there will be other things to fill the void.

Woo Hoo!!!!

vhero2816d ago

I agree PS2 is where all the shovelware went as was the PS1 and they succeeded as did the wii while it ended up. And guess where its gonna end up now? PS3.... Cannot be co-incidence.. I mean although most people whine about crappy shovelware for some reason people look at the insane amount of cheap games and think "Hey that console has a lot of cheap games compared to the others" and buy it.

Neo6042816d ago

bu bu but the salesssss!!!!!

WhittO2816d ago (Edited 2816d ago )

lol I wasnt expecting Wii ports, thought they would just rip off the games not actually port them.

I think this is great news, it means the library for Move has the potential to basically be every 3rd Party Wii game!

Huge advantage over Natal, which i can only think of a Wii sports type game that would suit it, not much more they could do.

I doubt it would be hard getting Wii games to run well on ps3, no matter how lazy/poor the programming lol. They could probably get away with barely using the cell at all and still play the games with up scaled res etc.

The only thing is, Sony should push devs to actually use the PS3's power, since that would be a big difference/advantage when people see the motion control running on ps3, then look back at the Wii's fuzzy 480p PS2 graphics.

LastDance2816d ago

might give third parties a chance for their wii games to sell.

Syronicus2816d ago

It will make it easier for developers to port Wii titles from or to the PS3. With similar formats and hardware, they can port simple titles like Boom Blox and Lord of the Rings. They can also port over the fitness games that sell like mad. In the end, they don't need to work as hard to move the ports over so it's a win, win for Sony and Ninty.

BYE2816d ago

Yeah!

Now give us Mad World HD, Sega!

itisa2815d ago

Pay money to make sure every port has the same standard.

I just hope not. Please Nintendo, you're thousand times better than M$.

JokesOnYou2815d ago (Edited 2815d ago )

"Microsoft are pushing this as "controller free gaming" so using a controller only raises the question, why is Natal needed?"

Yes and NO, Yes microsoft's PR strategy to set it apart from the rest is to point out that Natal is the only one of these motion control devices that "CAN DO CONTROLLER FREE GAMING"= wii-plus and and now sony's wii-move motion controllers can't do that; however as they have said and as I and many others have pointed countless times that it CAN AND WILL BE USED WITH A STANDARD CONTROLLER, they have said some games will make sense to use both and some of the casual games, like say a Riccochet will be "controller free". Nothing unusual about marketing what makes your product different/strength between the other 2, while not limiting the product to only that type of functionality. It's similiar to the wii's early advertising pointing out that the wii was the only motion controller console on the market and yes we know that in the wii's case that was the main focus but even then you could use standard controls for the wii too.

So the answer to your question is simple according to micro themselves Natal is needed for "controller free gaming"(the others cant do that) AND for games that will use a standard controller WITH Natal as an enhancement to the gameplay experience which we'll likely see in some hardcore games.

JOY

Dev8 ing2815d ago

Except the PSeye already does controller free gaming.

Consoldtobots2815d ago

PS3 version outsells Wii version day one and internet explodes.

Saigon2815d ago

This is what sony wanted...now they have tapped into both markets...hardcore and casual...lets just hope the casual catches on...from what I hear Move is better than the wiimote...

Bubble Buddy2815d ago

The Wii is a piece of junk. After Super Smash Bros, I barely played the Wii, I'm not a big fan of Nintendo just unleashing a new Mario, Zelda, Metroid every year, come on Nintendo think of something new, like a 3D Pokemon game or something. Though games like No More Heroes are welcoming, the Wii is a thing of the past, no one talks about it anymore.

2cents2815d ago

c'mon... it's funny. Wii ported to PS3 lol.

What wont be funny is if the graphics are ported too

:o

RageAgainstTheMShine2815d ago (Edited 2815d ago )

I will be having a PS3 plus WiiHD all in one in just one year's time.
I am the most cheap-ass gamer of all time.

Also

"Genesis Does What Nintendon't" was a massive success.

"It Only Does Everything. Playstation." is so far so good.

If you are going to defeat Nintendo have a campaign like these, it most likely work.

ico922815d ago

*waits patiently for madworld and NMH2 HD ports*

f7897902815d ago

Quick build an ark! We'll put only the best of the games on it and avoid the rising tide of crappy games.

HolyOrangeCows2815d ago

It's also a Ps2 game, geniuses.

dalibor2816d ago

Indeed it does. The question will be for better or for worse? As long as those AAA games keep rolling out on the PS3 I could care less. But the coolest thing would be if some of the games had the option to use either, a controller or motion controller which with the PS3 is something that can be accomplished.

Dev8 ing2815d ago

You mean like Socom 4 or RE 5 Gold?

dalibor2815d ago

Yeah you are correct. Some games will support both, I just found out lol did not know that info when I made my previous statement.

na-no-nai2816d ago

lol let the porting begins. how fast will it take for the ps3 to be filled with party and cheap budget gaming will take

madmonkey02816d ago

not long at all, hopefully though we will still have loads of new AAA titles to play alongside all of the wii ports(shovelware)

i_am_interested2816d ago

hopefully sony charges higher royalty fees than nintendo so we dont end up seeing all that garbage shovelware

thebudgetgamer2816d ago (Edited 2816d ago )

sony has been successful, because they have always been able to find a perfect balance between the core and casual gamer. if they can keep that up good things could come.

edit: my favorite demo they showed was the table tennis.

Mahr2816d ago

"hopefully sony charges higher royalty fees than nintendo"

Yeah, that's not going to happen. Here's the thing: third party developers -- the same ones whose support Sony is pretty much banking whether Move lives or dies on -- don't appreciate that kind of thing. Biting the hand that feeds you and whatnot.

ThatArtGuy2816d ago

I'm sure that every PS2 owner here rushed out to buy the "Friends: The One With All the Trivia" game.

i_am_interested2816d ago (Edited 2816d ago )

"Yeah, that's not going to happen. Here's the thing: third party developers -- the same ones whose support Sony is pretty much banking whether Move lives or dies on -- don't appreciate that kind of thing. Biting the hand that feeds you and whatnot."

im not talking about entirely alienating 3rd parties from Move with WAY higher royalty fees than nintendo, just high enough so that theyll refrain from porting over every single garbage shovelware title theyved developed that may have completely tanked in sales

BUT instead concentrate on "porting" the highly rated software thats actually worth the higher royalty fee

however i do foresee another "multiplat = more sales" mindset from these 3rd parties as a reason to bring over all that garbage shovelware that no one will buy anyway

Mahr2815d ago (Edited 2815d ago )

"not talking about entirely alienating 3rd parties from Move with WAY higher royalty fees than nintendo, just high enough so that theyll refrain from porting over every single garbage shovelware title theyved developed that may have completely tanked in sales"

Right, while everything that *does* sell in even modest numbers -- minigame collections, fitness games, pet care simulation, licensed games -- gets to come over.

"however i do foresee another "multiplat = more sales" mindset from these 3rd parties as a reason to bring over all that garbage shovelware that no one will buy anyway"

Well, yes, and this is partly because Sony's the source of that mindset, being as how their strategy for the PS3 is to offer it as the platform attractive to third parties -- and being attractive to third parties means being attractive to *all* of them. Particularly if they're trying to poach the crowd that buys those games in the first place.
