Wii Belongs In Toy Market, says Will Wright

Industry Gamers: "I think the Wii is a very unique platform, and that's kind of its core value. That's why it's been so successful – because it's pretty clearly different than the Xbox or the PlayStation. I think the Wii provides very fun experiences for the most part, but it's kind of a different level of experience; it's not like these 40-hour involved RPG games as much as it is like these fun toys to pick up and start playing in five minutes. And it's really fun with a group of people sitting around... It really is more into what I would call the toy market, because most of the Wii games I've enjoyed felt more like toys than like games," Will stated.

news flash, anything that primarily plays GAMES is a TOY
anyone who uses HARDCOREZ!! to justify the console worship is just plain retarded.

iFLOWLIKEWATER2815d ago

Absolutely, and let me add that I don't consider anyone a "hardcore" gamer unless they are getting paid to play games. And if you're bragging about being a "hardcore" gamer and you're not getting paid to do it, you're even more of a retard.

dangert122815d ago

wouldt it be hardcore to keep spend your money on games playing them and seeing no profit?

pcz2815d ago (Edited 2815d ago )

Wrong.

''I don't consider anyone a "hardcore" gamer unless they are getting paid to play games. And if you're bragging about being a "hardcore" gamer and you're not getting paid to do it, you're even more of a retard.''

Wrong.

Definition of a hardcore gamer

A person who appreciates games that show exceptional level of quality.

A person who purchases games that push the boundaries of originality.

A person who is passionate about games, but in an unbiased way.

A person who acknowleges the exceptional games across all genres and systems without discrimination.

A person who can appreciate a game based on its creative worth and contribution to gaming on a whole.

If you think being a hardcore gamer has anything to do with money, you have obviously got it twisted.

a hardcore gamer plays any games, skip school to play games, call sick just to play games, finish the d*nm game more than a dozen of time, waist his money on games, doesnt usually go out unless its to play game or buy games

''a hardcore gamer plays any games, skip school to play games, call sick just to play games, finish the d*nm game more than a dozen of time, waist his money on games, doesnt usually go out unless its to play game or buy games''

I disagree. Somebody who skips school or work to play games is just a bit silly. Games can be good, but not good enough to throw your real life away to play in a virtual one. A hardcore gamer is intelligent, not a moron who closes himself in a room and away from his family and friends- that is an addict (in the negetive sense.)

Somebody who wastes all their money on games is also silly, its not about who buys the most games its about what games you buy. After all, somebody who spends their every penny on games could just be buying rubbish games.

Appreciation has to come into it in my opinion, you can't call yourself a 'hardcore music listener' but only listen to one genre of music, that's just narrow minded. In my book, a true enthusiast is somebody who can appreciate things on a higher level, not just splashing out all your cash on games for the sake of it, there has to be some intelligence involved.

With some games, sure, they are "kid friendly," and I suppose some would remark "toy-like." You could also put games in this category that utilize ye olde Playstation's...Eye Toy.
(Of course, now it's just the "Eye." Much more "hardcore" that way.)

The Wii console itself? The beauty of what Nintendo did this gen is that it can be many things. Quick waggle (or "toy") games? Sure. Then there's flat-out GAMES like TW10 with a new control interface. There's the increasingly "cinematic" take games heading toward with other titles (Other M looks headed that way; LoZ:TP already did).

I wonder what Mr. Wright thinks of the Wii now that we see games like SOCOM on the PS3 utilizing the same type of "toy" control scheme.

It's funny how the headline makes it sound like a damning statement but the quote from will wright makes it sound like it's a positive thing.

ZoidsRaven2814d ago

That's why you can buy the Wii, 360 and PS3 in "Toys R Us".... 7_7
