Manhunt 2 Ban Sparks Anti-censorship Petition on British Prime Minister's Website

Gamers in the U.K. are apparently exercising their right to petition the government regarding the recent banning of Manhunt 2.

A user-created petition has surfaced on 10 Downing Street, the website of new British Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The petition was submitted by one Bradley Smith, and proclaims:

"We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Restrict the powers of the BBFC with regard to the banning of videogames.

The BBFC have recently refused to rate the videogame "Manhunt 2?. As such, adults in this country will never be allowed to play this game. Adults should be allowed to make their own decisions with regard to what videogames they want to play. We all understand that this game is extremely violent and unsuitable for children. As such an 18 rating should have been applied."

can we please get together in this and sign this petition??? gamers are gamers ...

Although I agree that the BBFC shouldn't of just outright banned this game, I think the PM Gordon Brown has a little more on his plate to worry about at the moment with all the recent car bombs appearing all over Britain.

I think Manhunt 2 is the least of his worries!

Worth a try I guess!

it's rediculous that all a group of people need to do is sign a petition to help change a's rediculous because every gamer that thinks the Manhunt 2 style game is entertainment is an immature and ignorant person. giving a game like this to a gamer is like giving an assault rifle to a child and saying have fun. f*ck you gamers that ruin it for everyone else. be happy and satisfied with what you get, you're lucky you get anything at all, you spoiled, ignorant, immature, mentally sheltered, socially inept, closet freak, losers...GET A LIFE!

How is giving a video game (entertainment product) to an adult (mature and most likely responsible) gamer like giving an assault rifle (firearm of the most controversial variety) to a child? I'd assume you intend your over the top mindless statement to mean children with no concept of the consequences of their actions. Do you have a valid point? If so let's hear it in reasonable words that don't patronize the adults among us. If not, we will assume you are trying to push your overly strict ethics on the rest of us and we will react accordingly.

I thought more of you emptiness. Instead that was an ignorant comment which didnt even deserve a space on this site. Wake up, breath and make a logical comment which we be able to discuss, because that was just cringe worthy.

I reported your comment as offensive.

Dam, wake up people. Freedom of expresion, you don't like it? Don't buy it.

I wanted this game (not because am some sicko) I played the first one and enjoyed it. I dont understand why this game got a ban in the UK. And games like bully didnt. Bullying is one of the main things in British schools these days that has to be stopped. Manhunt is just a Silly story... Its NOT REAL. It should be released as an 18. If you dont like it dont buy it. Simple as that.

This is a good time to sign for something like this, because Brown said he'd restore people's faith in democracy. Let's see him listen to us and restore our faith in the system!

A petition that is worthy of getting behind. We need to do something similar in the US. Only aim it at Walmart and Bestbuy and such. We have to start letting these Companies and the ESRB know that we the ones that buy the most video games are adults. Video games have been around for almost 40 years. They should know that there is a whole generation that has grown up with them and matured with them. It is time to take Video Gamers seriously. We drive a 12 Billion dollar industry in the US alone. We pump a he** of a lot of money into the economy, and that money makes us a force to be reckoned with.
