Second PS3 global glitch tipped by Paddy Power

MCV: The PS3 crisis is officially over – but if for some reason you think PS3 is in line for a second global meltdown, bookmaker Paddy Power is willing to take your money.

The bookmaker is currently offering odds of 11/8 on PS3 suffering a new worldwide glitch. If you think Xbox 360 is more likely to suffer a similar fate, however, it will offer odds of 7/4. The Wii is an outside bet at 2/1.

"PS3 has recently earned the unfortunate reputation of being the Toyota of the games console industry and is the bookies favourite to be next for a repeat performance of yesterday's calamity," a statement reads.

The Meerkat5168d ago

As Paddy Power make money from getting things CORRECT. Their opinion is probably more valid than most analysts.

RBlaze5168d ago

This 'worldwide glitch' was a fluke! I think the odds of any mass console problem is small... I didn't read the whole article, but unless this is a prediction of which will fail first, they WILL lose cash!

Genesis55168d ago

Well if PS3 is Toyota I guess that makes the 360 GM.

SilentNegotiator5168d ago (Edited 5168d ago )

"PS3 has recently earned the unfortunate reputation of being the Toyota of the games console industry"

What a stupid statement. PSN was down for a couple hours, calm down.
EDIT: Ahh, I see. It's another article from the brilliant analysts of mcvuk.com :/

zane_78495168d ago

It was around 24hrs... Nothing of value was lost. No systems outright bricked. The PS3 has been a remarkably reliable system especially when considering the bleeding edge technology put into the system when it was originally constructed.

People are grasphing at straws trying to make this a bigger story than it is.

IdleLeeSiuLung5168d ago (Edited 5168d ago )

I do agree that this whole thing with PSN being down is blown out of proportions. It also seems PSN wasn't really down, but a software bug in some of the PS3s. I think it received so much attention was because the bug caused a lot of issues with a lot of errors being displayed unlike a simple 3 LEDs litting up.

However, some people have reported that they lost their Trophies earned during this outage. Wetter this is considered of value is well, up to each individual.

Christopher5168d ago

How the f*** does the PS3 get the Toyota of consoles remark from a single software issue that affected people for one day?

FamilyGuy5167d ago

Since when were Toyotas considered unreliable? I'm (obviously) no "car guy" but from what I've seen Toyota is a reputable manufacturing company.

In any case, I'd say Sony were the "Honda" of the gaming world.

fear885167d ago

1. Sony hasn't killed anybody from their bug. Toyota is responsible for several deaths.

2. Sony's system became unusable for less than 24 hrs. Toyota has to outright recall their products IF THEY HAVE NOT YET BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT.

3. Sony's bug hasn't prevented sales. Toyota has to outright cease selling select models.

Therefore Sony>>>>Toyota.

badz1495167d ago

the usual toyota or the recent toyota which are recalling their Prius from all over the world? even toyota made a deadly mistake you know!

GameForFame5167d ago

Too funny ... one little, and minor mind you, problem and people are FREAKING out. It's bringing out all the "bloggin blowjobbers" as I like to call em. And I call em as I see em.

It was a simple issue ... it actually makes sense in a ret*rded way ... and it's fixed. For now. Come the next round, if it's not something they can fix via FW, than hey, another day without the PSN.

This is the biggest issue so far with the PS3 (sans the YLOD cause a general failure of some sort is expected) and it lasted 24 hours. Sony DIDN'T fix it. They waited ... 24 hours.

Personally, I find it HILARIOUS. My PS3 has been dead so I haven't been affected ... Slim on the way, so I laugh anyways. It's funny. And yet people are acting like this is a big deal. Hell, I've heard non gamers talking about this. It was on the News. Hilarious. WGN 9 said "gamers risked losing it all with PS3 today" and I cried laughing.

Come on people.

Volomon5167d ago

Not to inject common sense or anything into this whole discussion but those odds are in favor of Xbox360 being next, not PS3.

This was all just caused by a minor overlook in the date programming on the system clock. If there was anything non-date related that would cause the PS3 to do something like this, it would have happened already. Leap year bugs are more common than you think with firmware and software, but this leap year bug just happened to have a bigger impact than most. Nothing else is going to happen unless for whatever reason they can't fix the leap year bug between now and March 1, 2014 which will be the next time the leap year bug causes trouble if not taken care. But they'll take care of it. 4 years is a long time to find a fix.

travelguy2k5168d ago

...the next time this bug can rear its ugly head won't be until 2016, and by then i don't think it will be much of a concern as the PS4 should be out.

So, i doubt they will bother to fix this bug at all.

FaSeCeX5168d ago

actually he's right it would be 2014..seeing as we would have a 2-29 in 2012 & 2016

unless i missed ur point..in which case i would happily retract my words

Redempteur5168d ago

actually if the supposition abou this bug are true , it will bug 28/02/2014 just like yesterday ..

but ..i can live one day every 4 years without playing games ( i'll watch blu rays instead ! )

Mike134nl5168d ago (Edited 5168d ago )

Reminds me of rumours of Sony building death switches/clocks in their electronics (laptops and television). Not saying it is or was true

badz1495167d ago

death switch? come on now! it was just a bug in the software front! just stop giving anyone ideas on what to write in the next PS3 is DOOMED article please!!

Mugen Souls Retro Review – Sexy Demon Space Adventure

Gary Green said: We have a juxtaposition of 2D and 3D visuals, flashy turn-based combat, quirky anime characters with cheeky dialogue with plenty of partial nudity; Yes, this is a Compile Heart JRPG. Whilst the engine is borrowed from Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2, Mugen Souls is more of a Disgaea spin-off. It’s not a strategy RPG as such, it merely sits within Disgaea’s ever-expanding universe (Multiverse? Netherverse? Your guess is as good as mine). You won’t find cameos though, since Mugen Souls is a franchise which aims to stand on its own two feet.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

CrimsonWing699h ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker9h ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo9h ago(Edited 9h ago)

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing698h ago(Edited 8h ago)

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos5h ago(Edited 5h ago)

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

6 Fun Games Where You Actually Play As The Bad Guy

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos15h ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Tacoboto14h ago

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

banger8814h ago

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).

ChasterMies4h ago

Trevor in GTA 6 is a sadist and psychopath who dabbles in cannibalism. Should be top of the list. These game “news” sites should hire people that know games.
