When is a Sequel Not a Sequel? A BioShock 2 Review | GoozerNation

The original BioShock was a groundbreaking video game: unique concept, incredible graphics and animation, great use of plasmids and it was uber creepy. The fans ate it up, loved it, and named it Game of the Year. The game was gold and along came the sequel.

Instead of a sequel though, the fans got a remake of the original, albeit with some polish. Still a great game, yes, but there's just something missing...

I loved the first game and thought it was probably one of the most original ideas for a game in a long time. I was disappointed to see that a sequel was being developed, because I was sure that it wouldn't be able to live up to expectations. I received it as a birthday gift and will be checking it out once I widdle down my backlog a bit.

In all honesty, I thought exactly the same thing when I heard about it. It wasn't even on my 'to buy list'. But damn was I wrong, I absolutely loved it. Everything about the gameplay was improved, but unfortunately Rapture was no longer a new and exciting place.

To say the least it was a very welcome surprise...

You summed up my thoughts completely. I just wasn't that impressed. I wanted an awesome game, but I got more of an imitation than anything else.
