GameFlavor describes why the current God of War III and 7-Eleven Slurpee cross-promotion is such a lame deal because of the ill-conceived point system.
meh... I'm saving up for the awesome armor. It's up to people if they want to buy all those sugary drinks. Me, I love slurpees
Reading through your comment history tinman, you actually got the ridiculously expensive ($150 dollars) prestige edition of MW2 that came with the cheap toy NVG. So tell me, who falls for what again?
Biggest size is less than $2 after tax and it gives you 4 points. There were codes for 2 free points going around so I got the Kratos costume for only 2 large slurpees. I drank a lot more for the Home shirts and hoodies. I'm not a fan of slurpees but it's not terrible and it's cheaper than other big sized can drinks at 7-11. Slurpees are cheap and besides the codes u get a drink, don't see why people are complaining. Edit: Taken from CheapAssGamer.com: Slurpee size(s): - 7.11 oz. = 2 points - 12 oz. = 1 points - 22 oz. = 2 points - 28 oz. = 3 points - 40 oz. = 4 points the sizes are only a few cents difference anyway.
is it something to drink?, why does it end with *pee then lol? Anyway [email protected] its not like they will add free armour to every cup of coffee or w/e it is. When you're fan of this drink, and you'll buy it anyway and this way you get your bonus, easy.
love myself a 40 oz...=3
This is for people who already buy slurpees in the first place. I'd get one for the dynamic theme and just wait till i can purchase the armor on the PS Store. BTW, slurpees are $1.50-$1.76 here.
This is BS. 7-11's don't have Slurpee's around here... only ICY's. WTF!? :(
Sadly, none of the 7-Elevens near me are participating in the promotion. I was really excited to get a God of War cup but was disappointed. So the author should stop complaining, at least he has a chance to get the cups, points, slurpee, etc. Edit: ^Same here, we only have ICY's.
@Dude. Everything you drink ends with pee, dude.
This is wrong. The Kratos cups give you 2 points and the larger size cups give you 3. What I hate is you can't use the armor until you have beaten the game once.
I think it's just to encourage you to complete the game as fully as possible on your first playthrough, and just not spam magic / uber attacks and remove the challenge. (Think dairy bastard, and cod of war in the earlier episodes.)
The 7-11 I go to gives out 4 points per cup. 3 cups and I get the armor and Home hoodie.
its almost as if they just COPIED MS points system =( just ripping people off PFF
how much does the dynamic theme cost
6. have it. awesome. burning eyes that will stare you down. xD <_< march needs to hurry up.
Main issue here is that, this whole promotion is to spread the word of GOW 3 and not to increase the sales for Slurpees. I think if you are upset by this then you must have already decided to buy the game, hence u are technically not the target audience for Sony's Slurpee promotion. It is mainly for every casual gamer who buys Slurpees every now and then and haven't heard of GoW. Sure its a rip off for them too, but they are less likely to redeem anything and more likely to just have a greater curiosity for GoW3.
if it works do it. people buy slurpies everyday
because if I recall correctly, halo was being milked because of it's mountain dew drink...
Halo has had 3 games come out from 2007 to 2009. Now add Halo Reach in 2010, and you get 4 Halo games in over 3 years. Don't forget the Halo Anime, the Halo board game, the Halo Mountain Dew, The Halo Books, and all the other Halo merchandise that would take to long to even mention, and that is why Halo is an extremely milked franchise. I guess when you don't have that many exclusives, you have to milk your biggest franchise to death. (Sony doesn't have to milk its franchises like Microsoft does, they have more than one exclusive to distribute throughout the years)
I don't get this whole 'milking' debate. Is Mass Effect being milked because it has 2 games, 2 novels (with another one on the way) and a small comic book series since the first was released in late 2007? I love the back story and lore of Mass Effect, I've bought the novels and comics, and I don't feel like its milking. My point is, people also love the story and lore of Halo, so I don't really see how releasing products to expand the lore is milking. There are only a few circumstances where I would say a franchise is being milked: horror movies such as Saw, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th etc were all milked. You could argue cult films/books such as Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and Star Trek have all been milked too.. but to me those are once again just expanding the story and lore of their franchise. I think I lost the aim of what I was trying to say. Basically, Halo & GoW aren't being milked. :)
If a games integrity is compromised, then it's being milked. It's debatable if halo is 'milking', as from what I can gather, most of the games are still of a high quality. Exactly the same as God Of War.(Even Betrayal, the mobile game had good reviews) Promotion can occasionally stick in the craw if it's shoved down your throat, and those complaining about GOW's advertising seem petty, immature and churlish, especially after seeing the media blitzkrieg that microsoft unleash with nearly every 'major' release. Best thing for the complainers to do is just sit back, accept that a major release will have associated advertising, and not feel compelled to spout sh*t, as there's a major serving of crow just waiting for all you anti-corporate moaners when alan wake / halo reach / etc's advertising campaigns start up. We'll all see how you stand on the 'sour taste' debate then. (And for the record, mountain dew tastes like goat piss.(...i imagine.) ;D
This seems good to me. IT's about time sony....that you advertised something.
No reason to whine. Don't want the stuff? Don't buy a slurpee. Lots of people enjoy slurpees, so why not get free items in the process? Also, my friend got 3 points from a regular sized slurpee today. This article is lying.
I have NO access to ANY of this, and do I care? Nope =P so why should anyone else? I JUST WAN TEH GAME! ='(
"The worst offender is the exclusive Kratos armor, which needs 10 points, so that means you need to spend $14-30 for a simple character costume." HAHA This guy is forgetting that for that amount of money he also gets a few Slurpees as a bonus.
You are buying slurpees, not the t-shirt, or the armor. They are bonuses. 6 months ago, you could buy all the slurpees you want, and you wouldn't get a damn thing, how does that taste? However, I agree with the coffee or hot-chocolate comment.
MARCH 16 R.I.P 360
wasnt it supposed to be the end of the 360 when MGS4 came out, when LBP came out, when uncharted 1 and 2 came out, when Killzone 2 came out...... you get my point?
Visually but that's a bit far. GT5 has a better chance.
what is a slurpie? The "journalist" who write the article is dumb... yo arent buying the articles, you are buying your every day "slurpie" (wtf is a s...) and you earn points. Thats is why they call it a PROMO... dduuuuh... and not "Buy a Armor for Kratos and get free 2 Slurpies" lol
rom the information I've gathered a slurpee is something that makes you obese.
I don't see it like that, you don't go and by a Slurpee because of that extra t-shirt and costume,if you go out with some friends or alone and you want to drink something you can buy that crap and with that comes some extra bonuses, what is wrong with that, nobody is forcing you to buy that, and if you think it like that article your just an idiot who doesn;t know what advertising is
As usual, the same kind of people who complain about free stuff on psn. spoilt people who feel something for free still isn't enough. don't want to buy 4 slurpees for your free digital goody? don't then.
7-11 do all their slurpee promos like this. Last summer I had to get 5 to get a slurpee t. sonds like bashing a promo just because its GOW to me
Umm, well let's put this in perspective; if you're a Slurpee maniac, which many gamers are, you can down an average of 5-6 slurpees weekly, not to mention the size you choose; once again if you're a slurpee maniac that would be the biggest size(I think its 40oz)down here in FL thats four pts, you would need two more drinks, not a problem you're in slurpee maniac mode(my bad slurpee GOD OF WAR III maniac mode). Oh and take into account the GoW lovers who also love slurpees...yeah that's a horrible promotion. I used to buy three sluppees in one week and think it was a 22 or 28 oz cup(you get higher points for the larger size). Good job to who ever wrote this article without doing their proper homework. Look dude if you don't like GoW or the PS3 don't try to bash the promotion.
5-6 A WEEK?? Wow...I don't think I've had 5-6 slurpees in the past 10 years lol and I'm only 24.
I agree with you. I normally get a slurpee, on average, once a week. Granted there are times where I'll get a slurpee 3 times one week and not at all the next. Or times where I'll get 2 slurpees in one day. I don't really have a problem with the points, I think its a fair system. I am getting things for buying something I normally bought anyways. I could see where someone who doesnt drink slurpees feels like they are getting the short end of the stick. But this promotion really isn't aimed at them. Its more for people who already drink slurpees to drink more and for people who weren't interested in GoW3 to become interested.
Lol I guess I know a lot of Slurpee heads then.Plus I live in Florida
So it goes like this then? "whaaah whaah Sony doesn't market their games" Sony markets their games. "whaaah whaah Sony doesn't market their games the right way" Lame.
Time to add my KRATOS CUP SLURPEE WITH MY WWE SLURPEE COLLECTION.
they're not collectible cups like the previous halo 3, transformers, iron man, etc... they're just paper. kinda lame if you ask me.
kratos fury isn't half as sour as fuji apple...
GOW3 steak dinner points
There's no such thing as a 1 point code, so this article is flawed you would only have to buy 1 or 2 to get a shirt since theres 2 or 4 point codes and if you think about it people who buy slurpees every now and then get something extra... its only stupid if you buy slurpees just to get the points but that just means u really want the points
The smallest size is 1 point.
are they serious? no-one is forcing you to buy a ton of slurpee's for gow3 stuff lmao it just means if u already buy slurpee's and 1 day ur in 2 minds about buying 1, u buy 1 cus of the points incentive. i don't see the problem tbh. are they saying it would be better if they didn't offer points?
Seriously... its a choice to buy it. We don't have anything like this in the UK. And I'm sure it would be more expensive here anyway. Loads of GOW fans would love this. I would really like the theme. However I have no choice. Be thankful that you have that choice. Think of all the rip offs with special and collector's editions. How many times did they feel cheap and inferior? I wish I could get the theme at least.
I think it's a little odd that the US does so much games marketing and we do virtually nothing in the UK. Certainly I don't understand why anyone who has the choice over this Slurpee promo should be whining about the goddamn terms! Seriously, if you like the drinks you're lucky and ge something extra and if you don't you shouldn't really care anyway as it's a promotion on that product-it's just the way promos work, innit? Talk about a sense of over entitlement! The guy who wrote this gibberish should try being an EU gamer for a week or two and see what life's like outside gaming's favourite home! A little while waiting longer for games, paying over the odds for everything(and not having higher wages either), getting fewer games in total anyway and getting fewer features on your PSN/Live account and fewer options to buy on the store and marketplace AND with no chance of ANY freebies like this would soon knock the whnging out of him. There are serious issues in gaming and we gamers often get ripped off and this fella chooses to complain about the specifics of a damn promotional offer? You really have to womnder whether sopme of these cretins know just how fortunate they are at times as they make both gamers and the US look like a bunch of moaning minnies which isn't fair and isn't true in either case. I couldn't ever, mind, see SCEE having either the initiative to do something like this in Europe or the UK and I doubt there'd be the funds allotted out here to do it either even when the EU, in general, has supported the Sony brand this generation a lot more than the US has. Having said that MS don't even do this kind of thing in the UK so maybe it's just not something that works in the UK/EU? Maybe we just don't buy enough drinks? The closest thing I even remember to this was a few kids movies like TS2 and Pirates of the Carribbean getting their ads on McDonalds cups along with some figures in the Happy Meals and the odd film/cinema ticket deal at Pizza hut but nothing as widespread or largescale as this see,ms to be in the US. Also, it sounds like a bit of a tradition for games and pop cultrual stuff to do a Slurpee promo so it may be seen as a kind of guage of how "big" your produvct is as and when it graduates to the "Slurpee Level", no? Whatever, there's aboslutely zero reason for any moaning and even less to publicise your hissy fit over it all.
What $5-$12? That's not expensive for a T-shirt. Plus you get drinks as well. Idiotic article. I lift weights on the daily so I avoid sugar like the plague, sugar also makes my face breakout. But if I liked Slurpees I'd go buy a few to get some free stuff.
it is expensive when it's a virtual tee shirt!!
i didnt think it was that bad.i signed up at SLURPEE.COM and entered in the code on the bottom of the cup and added them up everytime i bought a slurpee and BOOM!!got the sweeeeeeeeeeet shirt for HOME,next im getting the blue war paint KRATOS.GOD OF WAR FTW!!!
halo mountain dew is good promo but GOW Slurpee is laughing stock. i mean come on. same people complain about the sony marketing and when sony do.. they complain again... wtf is wrong with them..
biased much? Certainly.
Too bad the 7 eleven near me had the promotional poster but old gi joe cups.
To bad for me the nearest 7-11 is 49 miles away. 7-11's don't exist in San Antonio.
I personally don't like when companies constantly advertise products. It's a waste of a current consumers money. I mean sure...if they reduced the price because their advertisements brought in so many more sales than people who are already investing in the product, then sure...I'd be all down for advertising, yet that's not how it works. More sales just means some jackass CEO gets to wipe his ass with $100 bills instead of 20's. This is why I'll never be a supporter of Apple; they overcharge for crap products so they can endlessly bash "PC" every commercial segment. They do realize that PC stands for personal computer, right? You can spot an Apple fanboy a mile away; "Apple's too secure to get a virus"...no actually, most hackers that develop viruses want useful information from major corporations, the majority of which use Windows to operate on. Developing a virus for Macs it pointless. It's like flying a plane into a random barn in Saskatchewan instead of The World Trade Center. Think of the livestock people!!! Yeah...I know....kinda went off on a tangent...yet advertisements just piss me off
