GamerNode.com - Bioshock 2 Review

But that isn't so much a detriment to BioShock 2 as it is a compliment to BioShock...Rapture has lost its scare factor, but still keeps its creepiness. A good multiplayer is hurt due to technical faults, but good graphics, another quality soundtrack, and upgraded gameplay all make this a solid entry in what will hopefully be a continued BioShock series."

I think the thing that didn't necessarily ruin Bioshock 2 but really detracted from it was the fact that after playing the first game, I was absolutely expecting just some kind of other, new, mind-blowing plot twist. There were tons of moments throughout the game that were really original and cool in their own way, and I really did enjoy the story, but I feel like I just psyched myself out for it a little too much. I watched an interview a while back with 2K Marin where one of the directors was saying it "kept them up at night" trying to think of how to accomplish that same sense of awe that came with the first game. I think they ultimately just hung their hat on the empowering ability of dual-weilding and the super upgrading of plasmids, which is legitimately real sweet.
