Switchable Graphics Get Smart

IGN writes: "Today NVIDIA, one of the world's most prevalent graphics processor manufacturers, announced their latest innovation in switchable graphics, which they call Optimus. The concept of switchable graphics processing in notebooks calls for the ability to swap between a machine's integrated processor and discrete graphics chip in real time to optimize battery life. Traditionally, in order to reap the benefits of switchable graphics technology a user must alternate between the two chipsets manually. In the past, switching between the integrated and discrete chipset required the closing of most applications and results in a momentary blackout of the laptop's display, but NVIDIA hopes to change all of that."
