Publisher THQ has announced a brand new Wii title that is in development and due for release this spring – All Star Karate. The game is an extension to THQ's existing 'All Star' IP, the first release of which was All Star Cheer Squad, a 2008 title concerning cheerleading.
All Star Karate will also offer optional support for the Wii MotionPlus, the use of which will apparently allow for "a true full-body experience". Players can also choose to play with just the standard controller and nunchuck, or two WiiRemotes.
GN writes, "The Wii has earned itself a skeptical reputation, especially among the more hardcore audience. I imagine developers face a daunting challenge with the Wii: how do they not make a game focused on waving the wands around in front of the TV just “because they can?” With a name like All Star Karate, I wholly expected to be flailing my arms in front of the TV like a crazy person (not to say I don’t already do that). Thankfully that wasn't the case."
CSM: In ALL STAR KARATE, a young man (or woman -- your choice) tries to come to the aid of an old man beset by a group of ninjas on the street. But it turns out the old guy doesn't need any help -- he's a karate master.
