Microsoft Points to be scrapped under lawsuit pressure?

There have been all sorts of complaints levelled against the Microsoft Points system since it was launched on Xbox Live, though it may be that the system may be done away with altogether following reports of a lawsuit being filed against the company.

Beyond the Hard Drive, Hard Drive, add-ons and online? May god have mercy on my soul.

Trebius2870d ago

Cause all they do is go into the PS3 exclusive articles and talk sh!t eeven though it wont stop the game from being released and what they say doesnt matter.

They envy the PS3 cause their 360 is garbage and has no games lol...

They're stuck in the stone age while we play beyond.

Not only are they stuck in between Gens but they're getting ripped off at every corner too...

So sad to be an Xbot...

They'll deny it til the day they die, it's so sad.

Wrathman2870d ago

erm correct me if im wrong..

if its not 400 points etc.then ur goin to be putting cash in,in increments of 5,10,15 and 20($ or £).but things arent priced that way.your purchase will be 3 or 4.99.and you cant subtract the difference and withdraw it anyway.

is it not like that on the psn? isnt there a minimum of 5£$? and you cant get the difference back without phoning sony?

thats wot i was led to believe.or at least it used to be like that.

enlighten me

SaberEdge2870d ago

@Trebius

No, owning both consoles is where it's at. Being a sad little fanboy like you is what sucks.

4point7BillionLoss2870d ago

Cause all they do is go into the Xbox360 exclusive articles and talk sh!t eeven though it wont stop the game from being released and what they say doesnt matter.

They envy the 460 cause their PS3 is garbage and has crap games lol...

They're stuck in the stone age while we play behind.

Not only are they stuck in between Gens but they're getting ripped off at every corner too...

So sad to be a yellow teeth droid...

They'll deny it til the day they die, but they'll never brush their teeth ...

DigitalHorror812870d ago

4.7 Billion Loss, I used to LOVE my 360, with God as my witness. I can't wrap my head around a system that would take a crap on me all of a sudden. I know what you might say. It's 'next-gen tech'. It has a processor that works double time.

Why does my Dreamcast still work? Why does my Virtual Boy still work? Even my dusty Super Nintendo STILL works.

And one last question? Why do you still troll?

My fellow Sony gamers, this article pretty much highlights the fact that the misguided children of the videogame industry, aka the 360 gamers, are getting ripped off everyday.

Let me do a quick recap of some of these "rip-off" schemes made by Microsoft to milk the brainwashed masses (the 360 gamers) of stupidity:

1. Forced to send their craptastic consoles every 2-3 months due to RROD. When they get sick and tired, they just buy a new console (thereby artificially inflating the installed 360 "user base") which in turn, creates a new, vicious cycle.
2. Paying $50 dollars a year for laggy online gameplay. This "online package" comes with this exclusive feature: Annoying 12-year olds with mics!
3. The Xbox Live subscription is not spent by MS for making better hardware, BUT for expensive "time exclusive" DLC and games.
4. Scamming the dimwitted 360 gamers with the lure of "timed exclusive" games when in fact they're PAYING $60 to beta-test a game!!

So what this tells me, my fellow Sony gamers? The ding-dong 360 kids don't deserve any sympathy. They let their intelligence, sanity, self-esteem, and wallet to be OPENLY RAPED by Microsoft! The Sony gamers, being classy, mature, and intelligent gamers, are smart enough not to be scammed by MS.

buh buh but they have Halo!

"1. Forced to send their craptastic consoles every 2-3 months due to RROD. When they get sick and tired, they just buy a new console (thereby artificially inflating the installed 360 "user base") which in turn, creates a new, vicious cycle."

I believe I am one that should know a lot about the RROD, considering I've gotten it with 3 different consoles, but the shortest time I ever had a console before it croaked was 9 months. And I never had to purchase a new console because of the 3 year warranty.

"2. Paying $50 dollars a year for laggy online gameplay. This "online package" comes with this exclusive feature: Annoying 12-year olds with mics!"

I pay $50 a year (at most, you can get it much cheaper if you explore your options) for what is undoubtedly the best online gaming service available. Anyone who has used both XBL and PSN knows that XBL is leaps and bounds ahead of the PSN. There really is no competition. You really feel like you're a part of a community on XBL. Can't say the same about PSN.

And I'd rather hear "annoying 12 year olds with mics" (who can be muted, by the way) than feel like I'm playing in the dead silent vacuum of space. The PS3 definitely needs a mic packaged in like the 360 has.

"3. The Xbox Live subscription is not spent by MS for making better hardware, BUT for expensive "time exclusive" DLC and games."

If you're paying an Xbox LIVE subscription, you expect that money to go toward improving the service you're paying for. And that is exactly where the money goes, and is why Xbox LIVE is the ultimate service. Not that the 360 hardware isn't improving, which it is, drastically. Last I heard the failure rate was almost as low as the PS3's. The chances of a new model failing are very slim. Almost as slim as the chances of a PS3 Slim failing. The only consoles failing anymore are older models that have somehow held out this long.

"4. Scamming the dimwitted 360 gamers with the lure of "timed exclusive" games when in fact they're PAYING $60 to beta-test a game!!"

Actually, we're paying $60 to play a game that, in one year's time, when every real gamer has already played it, you'll pay $60 to play with barely noticeable improvements.

The Iron Sheik2870d ago

I stopped reading at RROD on 3 different consoles. That is pathetic and so is the fact that you still support a company that screwed you over 3 times.

Bnet3432870d ago

I'm all for this. What about you guys? I just that if I want to buy a $5 game (400 MSP) I need to buy a bundle of 500 MSP. :/

presto7172870d ago

Freaking rip-offs. I say scrap the point system and use regular prices live everyone else.

MS needs to learn transparency. I mean, the whole nickel and dime thing can only take so far....

MSpence5162870d ago

I am assuming the reason the point system was used was for the individuals who do not have/use debit or credit cards.

The points themselves were not a bad decision, it was the stupid denominations in which they were sold.

I say the system was good because I remember my friend(whom doesn't use banks) couldn't buy anything off the PSN until they finally released the PSN cards. He, on the other hand could go out and buy a MS point card whenever he needed one.

hazardman2870d ago (Edited 2870d ago )

Microsoft was already talking about scrapping MS Points a long time ago. Before this lawsuit crap came to surface..

RememberThe3572870d ago

So it wasn't that Microsoft's point system was better but that they had cards that Sony didn't but now has? Not the best defense of a crappy fake currency.

Sitdown2870d ago

but what would stop Microsoft from saying, we are selling 200 points, and we give the gamer the extra points for free.

sikbeta2870d ago

Ah...if there is not Lawsuit about faulty Consoles, you think this will go further, just no way...

Saaking2870d ago

I HATE MS points. Almost as much as having to pay to play online.

The Lazy One2870d ago

I'm sure that the lawsuit will just result in him receiving his money back and probably a small settlement from M$.

I doubt the points system itself is in jeopardy. Not that I like it either. Just being realistic.

DelbertGrady2870d ago

I'm all for removing it as well.

Alvadr2870d ago

They should replace the whole point system with Schrute Bucks

IdleLeeSiuLung2870d ago

"I HATE MS points. Almost as much as having to pay to play online." -saaking

We already know you hate MS, but why are in every 360/Microsoft article trolling then?

You are just crapping all over the place for others to step on.

travelguy2k2869d ago

was so that DLC was the same cost (in points) is all regions. To buy the points themselves may cost more or less in different regions depending on exchange and taxes/tariffs. But the cost MS charged was the same accross the board.

The Happy Baby2869d ago

And No, they wont be getting rid of MS Points.

Reibooi2869d ago

I personally HATE the points system. It's retarded. You will buy a certain amount of points but it's NEVER the exact amount you need for downloading something.

So for example you have to buy 1000 points when what you want to buy is only 800 so you have to pay for 200 extra points you don't want or need. Now this isn't a problem for people who buy alot from the market place but for those like me who rarely buy stuff it's a massive rip off.

I have had 240 points sitting in my account forever because I have nothing I want to buy and it's bull.

I will be happy to see the points go away.

avengers19782869d ago

This is the same with psn cards you can buy a 20 dollar card of a 50 dollar card but if you only want 10 bucks your kind of screwed. I don't really find this to be a problem because the extra cash just sits there until I need it. I imagine its the same with the MS points the ones you don't use will stay in your account until spent, so it's not really a rip off... It's not like you buy a 500 point card use 400 and then lose the extra 100. I never did understand why they didn't just use dollar amounts, and paypal accounts on both systems would be nice.

darthv722869d ago

Why was it so hard for them to adopt a direct point per dollar system like nintendo or a real dollar for dollar system like sony. At least when you buy 1000 nintendo points it costs $10. I do like sony and their system.

The other day I wanted to buy R&C booty and only had something like $4.95 in my online wallet. Rather than add a predetermined amount to my online wallet I simply bought the game and had the system add just the difference to my online wallet to complete the transaction.

Now I have a $0 balance in my wallet but I was able to get the game using credit I had and only a few $$ thrown in. I dont mind the point system so long as it is directly representative of the value. 2500 points for $25 and so forth.

:DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

best news ive hear all week. Points SUCK

(youre next wii points)

execution172870d ago

it's basically $1 for every 100 points so to sum it up 1cent is 1 point, now PSN for NA store needs to put the exact price, hate coming up like 10 to 20 cents short when i want to buy something

El_Colombiano2870d ago

Some states require tax on the PSN Store.

Quadrix2870d ago

Going by my last visit to the Wii Shop Channel, you can only purchase a set number of points (1000, 3000, etc.), rather than the exact amount you want, so you're forced to pay for points you don't want/need.

RH062869d ago

I like on the PSN if I need $5.21, I will only have to put $5.21 on my debit card instead of coughing up more cash only to have it sit dormant in my account!
