Who says PS3 games don't sell? Konami should certainly be happy with the success of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots sales.
Classic game that deserved the sales.Sorry bot you will never experience this masterpiece on your defective DVD player.

I beat it once, and I held off on beating it again til trophy support came, and he just NEVER go to it, pisses me off.
9.9/10 by an Xbox360 site: http://oxcgn.com/2008/06/21...
Yet I still have the feeling this will still get approved.
its only been old by four days -_- 5 million sold
lol, MGS4 ONLY on the PS3.
yes, you do. On Topic ========== The best game of the last decade deserves great sales even in this down global economy. Bravo, Kojima-san and keep 'em coming.
This game was a great ride, but if only they had implemented the online properly, I probably would have kept this game in my collection.
You gave it away? Just because the online wasn't "implemented" properly??? You must have absolutely no collection of games past the previous generation. Did you only rent games in the PSone era and beyond?
@ Anorexorcist You are correct, my collection from last generation is small since I sold off most of the games that I figured were taking up space and that I would never play again. This generation has so many great games that have come out and so many more that are coming out, that I don't have enough time in the day to play outdated games even if they were great for their time. I loved the MGS series, but since MGS4 was the end of the story, the whole mystery and intrigue of the series for me is gone. It was a fantastic final chapter to the MGS universe. My opinion now is that they're just going to milk the series with a whole bunch of prequels and spin offs.
The conclusion of this article was that MGS is the best selling PS3 exclusive. How is this new? Sorry if I hurt your feelings, you ironically troll on my comments only when they say something anti-Sony. You must also think reporting news is trolling since you don't like it when I question anything PS3-related, and quickly resort to troll-labeling. There is nothing new in this article. People know this, yet it gets approved. I just wanted to know Why? Here is some more obvious news: Halo 3 is the most played game online on 360 MW2 is best selling multiplatform game this gen Maybe somebody should make articles about that too.
on any platform. My opinion of course.
So what? Yeah MGS4 was a great game but I'd be lying if I said that it was the PS3's best. More proof that sales aren't the final word as far as fun factor is concerned because as much as I enjoyed MGS4, I enjoyed MGS3 a lot more. Not to mention the fact that there are games out there for the PS3 which I would consider better than MGS4 which haven't sold nearly as many copies. Kudos to Konami and Sony for producing a seller from a business standpoint, but from the standpoint of a gamer...big deal.
piece of gaming I was hoping 4 trophies though but I think its kinda too late
Not trying to be. I'm just trying to engage the topic. The title was a bit misleading. I was pointing it out, until of course someone like Madden started crying about trolling instead of engaging back. Didn't know this was the Open Zone.
Apparently you missed the part where he talked about sells this fiscal year. Which means the story is talking about the best selling PS3 exclusive game is still selling strong. But way to make more out of it than ever needed to be. bored much?
i enjoyed it so much from start to finish.. simply a work of art..
MGS4 was the 1st game i bought for my ps3 infact it was the reason i bought a ps3 it was and still is the BEST game i've ever played in my life..no ther game has impressed me scince not even uncharted 2 or RE5
i love it! i finished it 7 times! But there are so many good games coming that i am not able to do a 8th round :P
Wasn't Kojima himself dissappointed with the sales though? Saying something he wishes it would have sold a lot more or something? I'm sure someone remembers him saying something like that though.
So Alpha-male did you know it had broke 5M sold? Did you know it sold 650K this fiscal year and still selling strong? Did you know a title doesn't always encapsulate the whole article? So maybe while the title is old news, the article which you're supposed to read and comment on that, still had new and relevant information. Besides, no one's time here is so important, reading a duplicate article would trigger the apocalypse. Maybe just suck it up next time. PS Good work Konami, or should I say Kojima Productions, for having the balls to stay true to your vision. Yes you can make money on PS3 exclusives, just not if they're crap. Learn the lesson devs.
No I didn't-- however, the article title has little to do with MGS as a whole. Of course I assume talking about Konami's sales would be much too boring and stating something like this title is bound to get hits. Sorry, but I just have a problem with the way things get approved.
@Alpha-Male22 What happen PAL, you only want to see "doomed" Articles to get approved or what? lol On-topic MGS4 Is JUST a MASTERPIECE, an EPIC GAME, if you didn't play it, I don't know what are waiting for Gamers FTW!!!
Disagree all you want but... Metal Gear Solid 4 > Uncharted 2 + God of War 3 + GT5 Metal gear is the only series that will make me buy a console.
"Who says PS3 games don't sell?" Ignorant 360 fanboys.
Imagine what GT5 could sell with a much bigger install base
"Who says PS3 games don't sell?" well, fact is, Sony's very own financial report says so. As was proven in this post, http://n4g.com/NewsCom-4697... , Sony is on track to sell about the same number of games in FY 2009 as it did in FY 2008. Any reasonable person might expect the ps3 to increase its software sales, along with its 13+ million extra console sales. Yet, incredibly, the sales have remained approximately flat. Thus, the question of "Who says PS3 games don't sell?" can be answered with a resounding: "SONY does!" If you are about to press disagree, please consider that this is a proven fact, backed up by Sony's own financial reports. No need to get angry, nor attack me personally. ;)

I don't know how it compares to the 360 or Wii, but while you made a valid point, there is no point of reference. I doubt Sony is upset with the rate of sales.
@ cayal "That doesn't prove they don't sell, it only proves they are selling at the same rate." You are absolutely incorrect. My post shows the PS3 software selling at the same NUMBER of software in 2009 as it did in 2008. How on earth do you infer the same 'RATE' from the same 'NUMBER'? Fact is, the 'rate' is defined by 'software sold per console'. Thus, the 'rate' is actually falling. Of course, as you pointed out, the normative number of software sold is unchanged, despite 13+ million additional ps3 skus installed - which was exactly my point. Thank you for confirming my post. I would expect Sony to be disappointed that software sales have stagnated, despite the increased install base. Surely, that makes sense?
cayal said "I don't know how it compares to the 360 or Wii..." Microsoft stated in their latest financial results that software revenue for the last quarter was down. Microsoft said "This decrease was due mainly to decreased revenue from Xbox 360 video games, decreased Xbox 360 consoles sold, and decreased revenue per console." This can be found in their latest 10-Q document in the top right of the form here: http://www.microsoft.com/ms... Nintendo also reported lower software sales compared to the year prior. So, as you can see, Sony software sales might be a bit flat for the fiscal year ending in March (not likely at the current rate) but they certainly faired better than their competition during these tough economic times. In fact, according to their latest financial release, PS3 software sales year over year were up just over 15% for the last six months reported. It was only a soft jan-mar 09 quarter during the worst of the economic crisis that software sales were down. Since then they've been up, unlike their competition which has yet to regain any momentum. http://www.sony.net/SonyInf...
An amazing game indeed. If you don't have a PS3, this game alone is a reason to get one because it'll be just sad to see people missing out on one of the best gaming experiences this gen.
Good, It's easily the best PS3 exclusive. Much better than Uncharted 2. Metal Gear Solid Rising should be interesting indeed.
I am not sure why this thread has suddenly been highjacked and truned into a strawman argument. Last time I looked, this was a story about Sony financials and comments centered on the year-on-year PS3 software sales stagnation, despite such blockbuster releases as KZ2 and UC2. Is it impossible to talk about Sony's woes without turning it into an off-topic MS mudslinging match? Ultimately, the fact remains that the ps3 sold RECORD numbers of loss-making consoles, while PS3 software sales - badly needed for profitability - have remained largely stagnant. There is no disputing these facts. Thus, what's so hard about agreeing with these facts? It's really not hard to acknowledge my point and leave it at that. I really have to shake my head sometimes at the automatic damage control on here. Does there always have to be such a forcibly defensive activation reaction, off-topic as per usual, in these cases? There's a few VERY insecure and sensitive people about, it seems. Makes me sad to be a gamer.
Rate has different meanings but if 2009 is as good as 2008 that is great. Look at 2008 the two top selling ps3 games GT:prologue and MGS4 were released that year along with resistance 3, LBP, Fallout 3 and Bioshock. Then in 2009 the lineup wasn't even half as good with the standouts being Uncharted 2, Killzone 2 and MW2. MW2 didn't even outsell GT:prologue.
Yeah I said it. These numbers PALE in comparison to 360 exclusives.
There have only been 3 360 exclusives that have broke the 5 million mark out of some 800 games available on the 360, Halo 3 at 10 mill, Gears at 6 and Gears 2 at 5.5 million. Most exclusvies don't even come close. In fact, 90% of 360 games in general don't break the 1 million mark their entire lifetime, so don't act like all 360 exclusives do gangbusters every single time.
Without anything to compaire how can anyone say anything about sales? I think it's YOU who is pi**ed off to the fact that MS's and Nintendo's software sales were down (MS's in particular) since it invalidates your point entirely. Didn't MS's and Nintendo's install base grow too? Yet Sony was the only one to be able to keep sales flat and not down. Still SONY is the one we should laugh at? Please... Your stupidity baffles me. Why in the h*ll wouldn't you look at the entire industry (the trends of sales in particular in this case) before calling someone out on sales? You try. You really try to hide your fanboyism but your stupidity gives you away. Better luck next time. Now if you'll excuse me I'm off to enjoy my "mediocre" MAG.

If I am not mistaken, those numbers you saw did not include XMAS and January? I would assume they are the biggest months for software sales in the year.
"Yeah I said it. These numbers PALE in comparison to 360 exclusives." The ONLY 360 exclusive it pales in comparison to is Halo 3. That's it.
@ cayal. Try to keep up, my good man. The whole gist of my post INCLUDED all ps3 software sales up until 31 dec 2009. (refer to the link in my original post - don't be so lazy!) Make no mistake, Year on year, the ps3 is on track to sell the same software in 2009 as it did in 2008. There is only one quarter to go for the Sony FY, and the numbers don't lie. Just go and check the links in my posts. I have done all your homework for you. I am not lying, nor am I spinning. I am just presenting the facts of the matter. No need to thank me.
Im replaying this masterpiece to get ready for Peace Walker on my PSP.
So far I've beaten this game 9 times. One without getting caught, One without killing anyone. Others to unlock everything. I got all the camos, all the facepaints and all the weapons. It's amazing. This is the greatest game in the ps3 library.....so far. Until march 16th that is....
to get ready for peace walker i would highly recommend playing through MGS3 as peace walker follows shortly after the events of snake eater
Its a good game and I've played through it a couple of times, but I dont think its the best. I had more fun with Uncharted 2, COD4, Uncharted 1 and Bioshock.
I think uc2 will catch it, just give it time.
The Metal Gear series has more fans, but Uncharted 2 was a fantastic game that will likely surpass MGS4 in sales. The great thing about PS3 games is that they have legs and will continue to sell (ex. Ratchet and Clank sell slow, but eventually reach the 1 million mark).
I agree, with both the single player and online content being absolutely fantastic, along with trophy support and fantastic graphics. I think that Uncharted 2 has more mass appeal.
Yeah, Metal Gear Solid is definitely the more popular franchise. I hope Uncharted 2 is able to do as well as MGS4 or even better. In my opinion Uncharted 2 is the better game, but both titles are definitely worth owning.
IMO, MGS4 was a better game than Uncharted 2.
I doubt U2 will reach 5m, probably only 4m tops. @Eamon I agree. ;)
Uncharted 2 is much more accessible for younger gamers, so it will likely outsell MGS4 eventually. MGS4 is the better game, though IMO.
Not really. This game is for the fans. The newcomers would not understand the story, and MGS4 is all about storytelling and cutscenes. This game is only for the fans, if you are not a fan, this game is not for you.
^ grr u made me sign in an reply to ur comment >_< ur 10000% wrong on the fan part, it was my first MGS game and i loved it :) so u dnt really have to be a fan of the series to enjoy MGS4 u know.
was my first mgs too! And know what? I loveeee it :D
i suggest you new comers to the series play 1, 2 and 3 playing them from 1 to 4 just makes the build up to the end that much more sweeter
@Two-Face Stop lying to yourself, newcomers probably don't understand the "whole Story" but is not like you can't play it And before The Epic Final Battle Against Liquid-O, he made a "Summary" about The Story Explaining Almost Everything Gamers FTW!!!
Two-Face-Yes, MNGS4 was the brilliant pay off for all of us gamers who were in from the first MGS and stayed for the amazing ride and YES, the story was hugely important. however, that's why the MGS database is available free to download on PSN(even a good read for true fans as it's full of reminders and little thing youb either can't recall or missed playing the other games)so you xcould understand and enjoy the game with zero prior MGS gaming. A LOT of gamers who han't played MGS before picked up the game this time round and the vast majority enjoyed it almost as much as we, with emotional links to Snake and Co, did. Having that database to call on must have helped a lot of 'em though! And, for those knocking MGO, why? Fabulous game and diffetrent t every other online shooter around. Great , tense stuff only tainted by Konami's silly second ID requirements(why?).
Best game this gen that is until Atlus release Persona 5.
What would one expect? It's Solid Snake!
Time ? after 2 years only sells 4.50 million copies ! best selling PS3 Game sold 4.5 millions ? lol . and yes uncharted 2 will sell more if you give it time it reach 2.5 millions next year
U2 has already sold over 2 million copies.
its already reached 2.5 million a long time ago. your parents must be so proud. EDIT: OH and did you even read the article, it says mgs4 reached 5 mill. wtf am i talking about, of course you didn't read it.
Start by reading the article before speweing ****. MGS4 sold 4.5 million in the first year alone. In 2009 it sold an aditional 0.65 million making it for a total of over 5.1million. 5.1 > 4.5
It's the final metal gear for solid snake thats why everyone bought it. Following the mgs franchise and how most games that have the Final Ending of a franchise pretty much will sell alot. Like god of war 3 will probably overtake the lead it being the Final battle for kratos.
Meh I thought the gameplay was weak and the game utterly forgettable. I know I will likely get bubbles taken for this comment as MGS4 is the golden calf of PS3 but I think there are many many better games.
so basically what your saying is "i don’t own a PlayStation 3, but ill pretend i do and say the game was very bad" your life is more pathetic than that of a sea cue cumber’s wow way to go wonder when the day will come were all people will appreciate a good game and stop acting like total d*ck head fan b*tch like this guy pretending as if he’s played the game
I have a PS3, I played the game and whether your little fanboy brain can concieve of it or not, not everyone liked the game. Not everyone is a MGS fan. You logic is so flawed I cannot begin to parse it out. So...I won't try. Nothing I said points to fanboyism, whereas your entire comment screams, "I am a fanboy that cannot handle a difference of opinion!"
DoctorSpakles No one and I repeat No one cares about your opinion, because it's your opinion. You're entitled to it though. 5 million plus people disagree
