Will there be a winner in the video games console war?

Home video games consoles have been around since Magnavox first released the Odyssey console in 1972. Since that time, the video game console has overcome its share of adversity, surviving two periods of uncertainty and market crashes in 1977 and 1983, which cast doubts over the future of the industry. In recent years however, the video games console industry has gone from strength to strength, and the competition between developers is fierce.

I think it's safe to say that there is no winner in a console war. You can only capture the moment.

It depends what's your definition of a console war? Selling more consoles? As far as I am concern most consoles stay in the market and have a big enough installbase in order for them to stay in the market.
I believe that once a console reach 10 Million and has a healty game attach rate then they already won their own console war.
Yes, true we all love that PS3 vs Xbox 360 vs Wii stuff... but if the console manufacturer is making money, 3rd party developers are making money and Gamers who own the console are getting games... who cares!? the console war is just a marketting engine design to bring more people into buying more consoles! ok.... I think I got to soft! now lets go back to fanboy mode! WAR! GRRR!

A console war isn't really relevant to the consumer. It is to the corporation that is selling it. Were just here to enjoy the games folks.

Only winner's I see are the gamers themselves in this "war".
