CEO Stringer Declares Sony is Shifting to 'Profitable Growth'

"We will shift Sony from recovery to profitable growth," said Sony chief Howard Stringer at the company's annual shareholder meeting. Shareholders were skeptical, however, pressing Stringer for a clear strategy for PS3 profitability and beating Apple's iPod. Stringer said Sony has spent two years rebuilding software development strategies and vowed "not to make the same mistake again," referring to the iPod's dominance over its Walkman. As for the PlayStation 3, Stringer emphasized turning profitable via software sales and said a comeback is already underway.

Just another BS speech to keep shareholders onboard. They better jump ship while they can cause by the time games DO come out for PS3 in 2008, they'll be so far from MS & Nintendo that there won't be a thought of a comeback.

And they've got nothing to compete with the iPod that's even worth mentioning. Heck, even the Zune is raking in more sales than Sony's 'iPod-killers'!

All Sony has are their too expensive Bravia TVs...which they were giving away in Europe, just to sell PS3s. But Samsung still has them beat on that front too. And now MS is getting into the tv manufacturing game??! I think MS is going to far but we'll see what they put out.

EDIT: BTW I'd like to see this list of 380 games! I'd bet that 370 of thoose games will be on 360.

@Amplifier (and his gang):

ROFL Look at the Bubble Stealers come out to play! Did your petty remarks, bubble stealing and votes of disagreement make you feel any better? I hope so cause it sure as heck ain't help increase sales for PS3!

"they'll be so far from MS & Nintendo that there won't be a thought of a comeback."

Thanks for "professional" information, because YOU of all people know where the industry will be in about 5 years.

"Heck, even the Zune is raking in more sales than Sony's 'iPod-killers'!"

Zune is a joke! MS knows it, it's obvious you don't understand it, yet.

"All Sony has are their too expensive Bravia TVs...which they were giving away in Europe, just to sell PS3s."

Yes, because those people KNEW that they were getting a Bravia, you are becoming a pathetic troll.

"EDIT: BTW I'd like to see this list of 380 games! I'd bet that 370 of thoose games will be on 360."

Pathetic that you would actually believe that many would actually make it over. Hope that X360 doesn't break down before than unless you bought yourself a warranty.

Sony will have to put out 42.2 games a month.

I'm not seeing that..maybe 14-18 games a month.

200 of them probably multiplatform, whether downloadable or not. A third of those 180 will be PS1 games (no time to develop them), another third PSN games that take advantage of or are oldies which PS3 exclusive or timed exclusive (made by SOE, Midway, SCEWW and possibly others), and 60 exclusive games, made by Sony, Konami, Square, and so on. Give or take. In 9 months I do believe it can get 200 multiplatform games (that's about 5 games a week, including downloadable and retail games); add another 5 games a week that are exclusive or timed, most in the form of small online games which are fast to make (And fast to port in the case of PS1 games or old classics) and everything adds up. That means you'll get about 3-4 games a week on the retail chanel for PS3. That's realistic. That means 2 will be either exclusive or timed exclusive. That's believable considering Halo 3 and GTA4 will come on strong on 360 (and GTA4 also on PS3, although to lesser extent due to price and not extra content, but brand should help a little), so perhaps many developers will opt the timed exclusivity on PS3 to give PS3 users something to be busy with while 360 users are busy with halo 3 and GTA4. That means about 1 exclusive always for PS3 on the retail channel per week. That is believable too, since holiday season is the time to unleash the games and it's about to come, and there are also plenty of surprises to be revealed at E3. So, I'm not gonna say it's realistic, but I'm not gonna say it's fantasy. I'm just gonna say it's a tad optimistic.

That includes up to March 2008 by the way.
